I love how Weaving played the Red Skull with a bit of nuance. He wasn't a cackling mad man, or a scene-chewing buffoon. He felt restrained, intelligent, and deadly.

he was way to smooth, and as scary as a new puppy.

and that scene when he was talking to his army.. horrible.

Hugo Weaving owned this role as Red Skull.
He was my ideal choice for the role way back when the Matrix came out.

The Green Goblin is my favorite villain (not the movie version). But after seeing Captain America, The Red Skull really intrested me.

Cool. Hey you guys? I'm confused. I always thought red skull wore a mask but in the movie it is his real face. I even looked it up online and it says it's a mask. Someone please clarify!

FINALLY got to see Captain America tonight and it was great! The only thing that sucks about this movie is the fact that it ended! I want to see more Cap adventures but now I have to wait until May 2012!

Oh boy, just watched it. Best 2011 CBM by far... Still thinking if it isn't the best MCU one!!

Spoiler: so howard had the cube since wwII? How tony never knew it? Well, maybe Shield had it this whole time, since he was a founder. We'll probably see it in Avengers...
Ryguy88
Ryguy88 - 7/29/2011, 11:08 PM
Aklash, didn't the Cube fall out of the bomber plane and into the ocean with Red Skull inside?
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 7/29/2011, 11:19 PM
@Ryguy88 Nope. Stark was leading the search for Steve but he was following the energy signature of the cube. They found the cube and took it and continued to search for Steve. But obviously they never found him.
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 7/29/2011, 11:21 PM
If Red Skull comes back in the comics he should wear a Weaving mask. lol jk
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 7/29/2011, 11:28 PM
Actually, Ryguy88, you were partially correct but that's not where the cube story ended in the movie is what I meant by 'nope'. Will use better choice of words next time.

The potential was there, but Weaving wasn't allowed to peak as Red Skull. A villain's presence should be stronger or equal to the hero, and there was no personal connection between Cap and Skull. They were strangers, each on a mission that crossed their paths for a brief encounter. Cap was allowed development as a hero, but Skull's character is pretty much reduced to antics with his staff, Zola and other items unrelated to Cap directly. Weaving was the right guy. But with the under-use and absent connection from the hero, far from greatest villain.

1. Loki - Tom Hiddleston

2. Iron Monger - Jeff Bridges

3. Abomination - Tim Roth

4. Whiplash - Mickey Rourke

5. Red Skull - Hugo Weaving

Hammer and Thunderbolt should also be noted for excellent service.

FriendlyNeighborhoodSpidey - 7/30/2011, 1:47 AM
@NeoBaggins dude I thought he was good. His performance was the best out of all of them.
But if not that, he should be at LEAST number 3 on that list.
My list:

1. Red skull
2. Loki
3. Iron monger
4. Whiplash
5. Abomination

In terms of preformance.
FriendlyNeighborhoodSpidey
FriendlyNeighborhoodSpidey - 7/30/2011, 1:51 AM
Actually scratch that. Abomination was slightly better. Mostly because I thought rourke played a genius Russian criminal more than he played whiplash. But that's also script so...
NeoBaggins
NeoBaggins - 7/30/2011, 3:42 AM
FriendlyNeighborhoodSpidey Yeah, Hugo was good. But not that good as a villain in the sense of what a villain is. All the other villains in these lists have a personal axe to grind with the hero and/or have something personal invested with hating them. They know them. Cap and Skull barely meet. And Skull never gives anyone a reason to feel threatened by him and his motivation and plan are sketchy.

But I did enjoy him when he first came for the cube and his funny scenes with Zola. He's more classic cartoon villain than a horrifying figure.

Loki is an irrational and weaselly douche. He has no honor and he is a jealous liar looking for praise and power. You know exactly what he's motivated by and what he wants. He's one of the most dangerous types of villains; feels personally wronged and has cunning and power. He also has personal motivation invested in the hero. Put Hiddleston's performance on top of that and it's easy for me to decide.

I really didn't like Cap as much as everyone else... I thought it to be way to much of Captain America Running... Did u guys notice how often Cap was RUNNING?? Thought it to be "OK".... SKull was OK, but he wasen't like overly scary or intimidating...

He didn't die...the cube sent him to Asgard somewhere (or one of the 9 realms). The energy from the cube opened the Bifrost and Skull took a ride. He'll be back....

The main bomber still had to fly over every major city.
