I really enjoyed Captain America: The First Avenger, and was really looking forward to the sequel. With that said, it surpasses its predecessor in every way, being a huge step up in the action department and crafting a strong yet clever story, balancing a variety of characters. Chris Evans returns in the title role, and once again does a brilliant job. This time bringing the essence of Steve Rogers into the modern world. Other Marvel veterans Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders return as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Nick Fury and Maria Hill respectively.

The main thing that makes this film so amazing is how different it is from previous entries in the Marvel lore. It has a mix of a 1970's espionage thriller along with elements from the Bourne Identity, with great hand to hand combat, and pulse pounding car chases, which kept me on the edge of my seat. Fantastic visuals, with the use of shaky cam that was of great use, the look and feel of the film was grounded and felt very realistic. The new cast of characters from Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/ Falcon, Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow, Emily Van Camp as Agent 13 and Georges St. Pierre as Batroc The Leaper all do an awesome job bringing depth to their roles, and not feeling underused or overcrowded. But the stand out here for me is Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier, despite having minimal dialogue he completely owns this role being a terrifying assassin, a former partner of Captain America.

Along with a great score from Henry Jackman, sneaking in the original Cap theme in the beginning of the film. Overall a captivating film from start to finish being Marvels best film yet, also seeing it in IMAX 3D was phenomenal and I truly recommend seeing it in this format. Be sure to keep an eye out for various Easter eggs throughout, along with some pretty cool cameos as well.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is an incredible film in every sense of the word, the Russo brothers have put together a damn good movie, and glad to see them returning for Cap 3. For me, this surpasses The Avengers exceeding all expectations.

Definitely saw in Imax 3d, and totally worth it. Movies like this are worth the ticket price.

Nice review.
But seriously D117. You should consider TWS as Marvel's Best SOLO movie.
You can't just compare this to The Avengers. Avengers is a completely unique movie. It's a Team-up movie. Something Hollywood has never done before. It put together 4 different superheroes who've each had their own individual solo movies. Plus 3 other heroes who've made cameos from some of the previous movies. Cooking up a story to make them all blend nicely together in one movie is a HELL of a challenge. And look! It made us all CBM fans happy!
TWS may have picked up where Avengers had left off, but it's still a SOLO movie
