SPOILERS: More From The Captain America:The First Avenger Set Visit

A recent set tour by AICN has shed a lot of light on the plot surrounding the new Captain America movie. Warning, this is heavily spoiler-filled.

The good folks over at Ain't It Cool News, were some of the select few people invited to tour the set of Captain America: The First Avenger, while the movie was still filming. During his time on set, Quint was able to unearth a massive load of new information concerning the plot and even discovered a small tidbit concerning the inevitable sequel. Here's what was learned. [Again, this contains massive spoilers]

On whether finding Cap on ice is the beginning or end of the movie:

The movie begins in present day as an excavation uncovers something in the ice. The art pieces [production art] I saw included a wide shot of the excavation site which looked a little THING-ish, digging equipment in a small camp illuminated by bright lights, and a great shot of a familiar round object, obscured by thick ice, colored red, white and blue with a big, white star affixed in the center.

On what the Cosmic Cube will do:

In the early books the Cosmic Cube gave the Red Skull the ability to conjure anything with a thought. This version doesn’t do that, but it apparently gives The Skull an advanced form of weapons knowledge. So this world will be a little more sci-fi-ish than I expected. There are giant tanks that fire what looked to be energy blasts or plasma shots, sleek guns that looked like a combination of WW2 weaponry and blasters and transportation devices that were a mix of the technology of the time with a bigger, sci-fi edge. One of these devices was a massive machine called The Orbital Bomber, a stealth bomber looking ship that is so massive it houses seven more aircraft that will detatch and enter battle during the climactic battle sequence.

On the Stark Expo:

Pale, rail-thin and short [pre-serum] Rogers’ ambition far exceeds his physical ability.
That’s not true of his best friend, Bucky, who is enlisted. On their last night together they attend the Stark World Expo, which looks just like you’d expect if that art’s any indicator. The glimpses we got in Iron Man 2 made it look like Tomorrow Land on an epic scale and that’s exactly what the art made it look like, complete with monorail and fireworks.

On the Super Soldier Serum Injection Scene:

Tucci was the stand-out even in this rough cut version of the scene. His Dr. Erskine was played with the perfect mixture of seriousness and humor as needed in this scene.During the experiment, Rogers experiences incredible pain and his body is so stressed that his life is in danger. Erskine and Howard Stark move to stop the transformation before it completes, but Rogers screams from inside the chamber “No! I can do this!” taking the pain and risk because it’s the only way for him to serve his country.

On how Rogers becomes a war propaganda mascot:

After Cap is born, the project is sabotaged and Rogers is kind of lost. He’s big, he has great strength, but those who had plans to train him to use it are now gone or scattered. Tommy Lee Jones doesn’t like him much and wants to study him, but a US Senator thinks there’s a better use for him.

On Cap's first real mission

The utilitarian Cap costume you see in the trailers come to play when Rogers has to go on a rescue mission. They didn’t say it, but I think his longtime friend Bucky might be in trouble and his first boots-on-the-ground mission takes him into a massive Hydra factory to rescue some POWs.

On what era a Cap sequel would be set in:

Interestingly enough, [Kevin]Feige told us that we shouldn’t count out seeing more WW2 themed Captain America stories on the big screen since the movie takes place over a period of about 3 years. So even though we all know Cap ends up in the ice if there’s a call for more WW2 Cap adventures there’s plenty of missions we don’t see. I found this very exciting, especially since Feige said that he loves Ed Brubaker’s use of WW2 in his Captain America stories, where the first few pages of one of his comics would be a WW2 adventure and that would inform the modern day storyline being told in the book.

This movie just keeps getting more and more awesome. For a description of an epic fight between Cap and the Red Skull, read the article from RorMachine. To read the full article and learn even more about the movie's SFX, props, and vehicles head over to AICN.

Knew about the USO scenes (hence the mascot thing), read it in the books, that seems weirdly interesting, lol.

But the rest are fresh, great find @GRAPHIC!

And all sounds really cool, hell yeah.

@runDTC hate to burst yours and everyone's bubble but Bucky DOESN'T DIE. read the novelization of the book and that is literally the only thing that i found upset me about the story. everything else was awesome though.

@TaskmasterSummerCamp: what do you mean he doesn't die!?!?!?! are you serious? what the heck are they gonna do with him for the sequel? make him some old fart?
TaskmasterSummerCamp
TaskmasterSummerCamp - 7/4/2011, 9:24 AM
@runDTC i know i couldn't believe it either. near the end with the final fight between cap and the skull on the orbital bomber, bucky is still at the hydra HQ with the howlers, col. phillips, and peggy. i wish we (the fans) would've found out earlier so we could have protested or something.

No way , bucky has to die isn't that like one of the most important bits in caps history that bucky dies on this mission it makes the whole story of cap more tragic and leaves him with that guilt hanging over cap , also you need bucky to die in this so he can become the winter soldier in cap 2 or 3

shove it fasdasf

@TaskmasterSummerCamp: maybe the book is different from the movie. I'm pretty sure the novel of "TF: DOTM" had some major differences from the movie. but I'm not sure. I only saw the movie.

Bucky doesn't die? What. The. [frick].

Why would they want to go the ultimates route when the Brubaker Winter Solider storyline is SO much better?

if true, this is the first piece of info for this movie that I genuinely dont like.

TaskmasterSummerCamp - 7/4/2011, 11:17 AM
@runDTC i thought of that but as i was reading it i recognized everything from every trailer and every piece of footage we've seen. even the final chapter described in great detail EXACTLY what we saw in the leaked story boards.

@taskmaster @runDTC

Junior novelizations aren't always accurate if just for the reason that they have to adapt a storyline for a children's audience. (Although killing Steve and NOT killing Bucky seems like a weird choice) and sometimes the authors DO take some poetic license with the story.

However, almost all novelizations are based off the script. Now it's possible that it was just a draft and not the actual shooting script, in which case, I hope the final script had Bucky dying.

Not having a Winter Solider arc in possible sequels seems like a waste.

@taskmastersummercamp:

Junior novelizations usually cut A LOT out of the actual story. The whole cap being frozen and waking up in the modern day subplot is nowhere to be seen. And the novel ends before the final fight. It cuts out the cosmic cube (only a brief mention but it doesnt even mention the name or ANYTHING).

So don't take the junior novel as an indication that he won't "die." For all we know, he could "die" in the final battle.

Remember, for example, than in the very extense novelization of x-men 2,done by claremont, jean grey didn't die, but see got blind! they always keep surprises for the movie so they don't get spoiled before the release,I think. :)

I love everything about this movie so far.

Bucky needs to become the winter soldier!

Even if Bucky doesn't die on screen in the final version of the film, doesn't mean he can't still become Winter Soldier.
I mean Cap could ask about him in the present and be told that he went MIA a couple of weeks after Steve, while on a mission to take down some remaining Hyrda forces in Siberia.
