UPDATE: SPIDER-MAN Writers On Cast Rumors, Origin Story, And Tom Holland's CIVIL WAR Cameo

Before addressing the rumored Spider-Man cast list that's been making the rounds, the Marvel/Sony reboot's screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have confirmed that Tom Holland has already filmed his cameo in Captain America: Civil War. Check it out!

John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have made it clear they can't say too much about penning the script for Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures' Spider-Man reboot because they are still in the early stages. They have not even met Tom Holland, the third actor who will be portraying the Web-Slinger on the big-screen. However, that will all change this weekend, or rather today, as the filmmaking duo has revealed in two more interviews that were both conducted earlier this week.

"We're going in on Friday to talk to Marvel and see all the materials and start talking specifics," Jonathan Goldstein told Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of his & John Francis Daley's directorial debut Vacation. Daley then reiterated the reboot has a "John Hughes take [with] Peter in high school." He added, "I think we're going to spend a lot more time on them in high school and deal with him being a real kid." "They cast a real kid, so we're going to write a real kid."

Speaking of "them," or rather some of the supporting Spider-Man characters, there was a rumored cast list making the rounds earlier this week and it had the likes of Billy Zane playing the Vulture. The cast list was not covered here on CBM, but John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have debunked its legitimacy during a separate Vulture interview. "We've discussed certain characters," said Daley, "but nothing is certain yet, for sure." He and Golstein also reiterated that they will be visiting Marvel Studios this weekend, and that among the things they will see is the footage of Tom Holland's cameo as Peter Parker in Captain America: Civil War. "We hear good things," said Goldstein. "We might even get to look at the Spidey suit, which is exciting." What do you think?

UPDATE: In yet another interview, this time with The Andy Greenwald Podcast, John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein talked even more about skipping the origins story in Spider-Man as well as more about their meeting with Marvel this weekend. "I think that everybody feels like you know he got bit by a spider and you know Uncle Ben died, and we probably don’t need to revisit that," said Goldstein about Marvel and Sony's direction. Daley then elaborated on sending Peter back to high school. "We have a meeting set up at the end of the week just to go over the logistics and to look at his suit, which will be fun," he said. "But we’re so pumped about it and Marvel seems to be doing everything right; we’re both such huge fans of the stuff they’re putting out. I think it’ll be a fun departure from the Peter Parker you’ve seen, where now he is truly a kid and I think the stakes are increased in that his struggle through high school is very real and isn’t just a sort of side note; it matters now." For more from Daley and Goldstein, watch that full interview below!

Directed by Jon Watts, Marvel and Sony's untitled Spider-Man reboot so far stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, and is scheduled to open in theaters on July 28, 2017. However, the friendly neighborhood web-slinger will first make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut briefly alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016.

So against by better wishes, I saw Vacation today.

Spider-Man is so [frick]ed. One of the worst movies I've ever [frick]ing seen. Marvel Studios what the [frick] are you thinking hiring these hack writers?

I still don't see the hype for the Spidey suit. We've had 3 perfect Spidey suits.

What's the hype for? There are small things that will be different but it's the same old same old basic design we've seen.

@KurtWagner1225

Ant-Man had the guy who gave us Anchorman, Anchorman 2, The Other Guys, and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.

Why Marvel didn't ask him to help write Spider-Man is [frick]ing beyond me considering I believe he said he would love to direct a Marvel film and he wrote Ant-Man.

Now I'm not asking him to direct Spider-Man, just write the film. Think everyone would be ok with it.

Instead we get shit writers.

I'd rather see a Doctor Strange after credit scene since that will be the next Marvel movie after Civil War.

Too bad Disney won't allow Spidey to use drugs in the movies. Imagine showing him high on mescaline swinging around NYC.

@LEVITIKUZ Calm your tits man. It's not like they're not getting notes from Feige, other execs, other Marvel writers, etc

@LEVITIKUZ Remember XXX: State of the Union and X-Men The Last Stand's Simon Kinberg? He did well w/ Days of Future Past and Sherlock Holmes, but he also wrote This Means War and the Ouija movie.

Not saying this duo will rebound magically but Marvel knows what they're doing. They deserve the benefit of the doubt.

@KurtWagner1225

Those people are morons if they didn't like those films. Again, these guys are Goyer, Orci, and Kurtzman bad.

Need I remind that in the early MCU days, Feige involved Zak Penn. Penn wrote Elektra, X3, and wrote Incredible Hulk and Avengers. Ed Norton rewrote the complete script because he likes Hulk and we all know Joss hated the first Avengers script that Penn had.

You'd think with how hot the MCU is people claim, we could get writers who have proven themselves.

@Reasonnnn

Sony executives had Bendis involved in TASM series.

@LEVITIKUZ Marvel ain't Sony. Yes, Marvel has brought on subpar writers before and they'll probably do it in the future, but this is their crown jewel; I cannot imagine them screwing the pooch on this one. It's not like this duo is going to do some lazy, raunchy meta-humor from Vacation with Spidey.

We won't be getting any Spidey Credit Cards in this film!

Can't wait

I'm sure the writers fit well, I trust Marvel, nobody expected the Russo's to give us The Winter Soldier

Fant4stic has had 1000x worse production problems than Antman. Hell, Gambit's production is so far looking worse than Antman's.

Gambit is losing the guy that even started up this thing. Not a good look.

As for Fantastic Four, it didn't lose it's director, but you can't go and tell me he's even incharge at this point, or are you going to ignore the dozens of reports discussing the bts problems?

It just dawned on me today that next year: a chunk of the Justice League, a chunk of the Avengers, Spider-Man, most of the original X-Men, Dr Strange AND [frick]ing Deadpool will be on the big screen next year...even if some of those are cameos, its still the BEST time to be a comic book fan! AND not forgetting, Elektra and the Punisher on the small screen! Enjoy these times, ladies and gentlemen, I think this decade is where comic book movies are gonna be at their greatest :)

@SpiderPool1420 If you just called DCMF what I think you just called him, then you don't deserve to have your article up anyway (not like you deserved it anyway, he legitimately had it up WAY before you). Not cool.

Dude, if you take the time to see all of the confirmed updates like Trank stepping down from Starwars, and looking at the trailers where there are clear reshoot scenes as reported. Also, THR are the ones that reported them. They don't report bs. Lets not try and deny them at this point. Even a Fox official admitted there were "bumps along the road".

@SpiderPool1420 This is how the site has been run for the longest time - editors get to put the articles they're working on in the "Admin", even if they're unfinished. That way, it's easier for editors to decide who got an article up first, or if their schedules simply don't allow them to finish it when they want to.

And besides, it's not like Basic Users get paid for their articles anyway. Why does it even matter if your article gets taken down? I get that it takes some work to write up, but it doesn't exactly matter to us in the long run. Editors get paid for this, we don't. It's kind of a dick move to rob them of that, which is why I don't write news articles anymore.

@SpiderPool1420 I gotcha. But the system is rigged in the editor's advantage, so it's their rules I guess. I appreciate though, man!
