South Korean actor Park Seo-joon joined the cast of The Marvels in an undisclosed role last summer, and details on the character he'll play have now been shared by scooper Daniel Richtman (via Patreon).

According to this report, he will actually play Carol Danvers' husband: Prince Yan, the leader of a musical planet where everyone has to sing to communicate.

Yes, it seems the rumor that the Captain Marvel sequel will feature "musical elements" was accurate.

Marvel Studios has included a few musical sequences in earlier projects (Eternals, Ms. Marvel, and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, for example), but a character or characters belting out full song/dance numbers would be a first. It may seem like an odd creative choice, but we have seen the studio take more risks of late (to varying degrees of success), and we know Larson can carry a tune!

The Academy Award-winner actually began her career as a pop singer, releasing the 2009 single “She Said.” Larson was later given the opportunity to showcase her talent in Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World when she performed as Envy Adams.

As for Seo-joon, the 33-year-old actor/recording artist is a prolific star in South Korea, rising to fame after appearances in TV shows such as Kill Me, Heal Me, She Was Pretty, Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, and Fight for My Way. He also has a small role in recent Academy Award-winner, Parasite.

Though specific plot details are still under wraps, we have heard that the movie will focus on the three heroes - Danvers, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan - trading places every time they use their powers. They then decide to join forces in an attempt to fix their problem.

British actress Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat, Velvet Buzzsaw) is on board as the main villain, who is rumored to be a gender-swapped take on Kree warrior Ael-Dan. In addition, Samuel L. Jackson has confirmed that he will appear as Nick Fury. Nia DaCosta, who also helmed the Ms. Marvel season finale's post-credit scene, will direct from a script by WandaVision writer Megan McDonnell.

The sequel is set to fly into theaters next year.

Y'know what? This actually gets my excitement for this movie up a little. I don't mind hearing Brie sing again, she's got a actually great voice.

Look, all I’m gonna say is, despite a lot of it being unwarranted, the first movie got a lot of shtick. I don’t thing adding a musical number to the sequel is going to win any new fans over, and worst, might alienate fans in a similar fashion to Love and Thunder by doubling down on the silliness.

The being said, looking forward to see more Kamala.

I just hope the musical aspect doesn't take up a whole act. It's fine in spurts, but I don't enjoy musicals at all.

I’m not a fan of adding musical elements to an MCU film. I wasn’t a fan of the Hawkeye post cred and I don’t think I want to see it in the actual film. The one thing I think Ms Marvel could benefit from is making her movies a little more kill bill and a little less Tank Girl.

Ms Marvel is the only interesting character in this movie I'd say.

Everything about this doesn't sound appealing to me. A musical planet? Trading places when they use their powers? It all just seems needlessly quirky but not really in a fun or cool way. That's just me. Not feeling this at all.

Yeah, this will be the stinker of 2024.
If i remember correctly, this was first supposed to be part of phase 4 or die i just make that up in my head?

Ya know what, I’ll be fair. This is way more creatively interesting than anything the first film did. I’ll bite. And it’s pretty in line with the peculiar worlds and beings Carol encountered in her 2014 run (the most I’ve ever enjoyed reading Cap Marvel).

That being said, I doubt this is going to please fans.

I wonder if this means Lila Cheney will also appear.

Also, looks like Marvel beat DC to the punch again, making a comic book movie musical, before Joker 2 releases (if that's still actually happening).

Musical episodes of genre TV (the easiest point of reference) are always hit an miss, Once More with Confidence being a notable exception, and whilst I like me a good musical its very difficult to keep the balance between drama and breaking into song - the latter adds a level of the ridiculous that can derail the former especially as only part of the film will involve the musical element

It's going to be a massive balancing act and I'm not overly convinced the creatives at Marvel are that capable but I may be surprised.

However, it is something that will put a lot of viewers off

I was on the fence with this movie to begin with whether I was looking forward to it or not. And I think I'm firmly in the not now. Sure I'll eventually watch it when it is on Disney plus cuz I watch them all. But I really don't like the direction they're going in if this is true. The plot revolving then switching places sounds super lame. Freaky Friday in the mcu doesn't sound cool. And Carol is married to a dude who comes from a singing planet? To each their own I guess but for me it's kindve wtf bro

Most disappointing news I've heard about the movie. :(

And by that I mean Carol potentially having a husband. Musicals are delightful.

Wasn't this reported months ago? Because I remember reading the actor was playing a leader of a musical planet a while back. Is it people have short memories, and just forgot, so this is actual news now?

Anyhow, I was really hoping when the actor was originally cast, he would be playing Hulkling. Hulking is connected to the Captain Marvel universe due to being Mar-Vell's son so I figured when he gets introduced, it'll be in this franchise. Marvel Studios really screwed up on Mar-Vell in the 1st film, and I was hoping they would flesh out the Mar-Vell and Carol's relationship better in the sequel. Perhaps, Carol and Company having to go rescue him. I still haven't bought into Carol giving herself the moniker Captain Marvel, her relationship with Mar-Vell just didn't seem strong enough in the 1st film.
