DC should bring Shazam to the big screen or reboot the TV Series :)

This might just be me but the Rock would make the best Black Adam. Actually a Shazam movie be a pretty cool way to entroduce Dr. Fate as well.

Love these Shazam stories. It gives me a retro feeling when reading about billy, and experiencing what its like for the first time being Shazam. Cant wait to read more, bring it on, and take my money.

I'm behind The Rock for Black Adam, would be perfect. Have to seem some rage tho, he's a badass character.

I really dont have a problem with the name Shazam, seems like it makes perfect sense. Why go with something else, its just as recognizable as Captain Marvel is to the character.

It would be awesome to have a movie where the had a father and son play Billy and Captain Marvel. That way they look alike so it is a more believable transition between the two. It is one things they did really well in the new 52. They look like the same person just one is an adult and one is a kid.

Making an audience believe in heroes with powers is hard enough... powers derived from magic though.. I don't see this as a movie that will have broad appeal. We just accept was has always been in the comics, because all of these characters date back long before us, and before tv and film were common mediums. The fantasy elements would ultimately ne it's downfall with modern audiences. Besides, it would be so FX heavy, that a studio would never touch it. WB barely shelled out the dollars to do Superman the right way and he's the grand daddy of them all. I grew up reading Capt. Marvel, and in this case I prefer to let my imagination bring the characters to life.

How about "Captain Shazam"?
TheFox
TheFox - 3/6/2013, 4:50 PM
@Blackvoid: Well, considering that you didn't specify that the Shazam movie was done right, too, I'm going to have to go with Wonder Woman. No one wants to see Tim Story or Brett Ratner's Shazam anytime soon, and the fact is, Shazam, like Wonder Woman, is one of those characters that is really hard to nail.

@Gusto That says it all.
TheFox
TheFox - 3/6/2013, 4:55 PM
@Blackvoid: BTW, if they were BOTH done right though...?

I'd still probably go w/ Wonder Woman, just because she's not as similar to Superman as Shazam is. Besides, she's the most recognizable super heroine in the WORLD-- Warner Bros. would be crazy to skip over her in favor of Shazam (just like they were crazy to skip over her and the Flash, DC's most relatable A-list superhero, for Green Lantern-- the hardest possible sell of their entire pantheon, second only to Aquaman).

@TheFox I agree, I think its odd that DC hasnt made a movie for all three of the Trinity. Wonder Woman needs some love, great character.

Is that why Harry Potter flopped?
Blackvoid
Blackvoid - 3/6/2013, 5:15 PM
@bs77 But Billy isn't a Captain of anything, nor is Shazam, so....No I dont think Captain Shazam, or Captain Marvel works. Just my opinion.

The only problem with him being called Shazam is what are they going call the other members of his Shazam Family? "Mary Shazam"? "Shazam jr"? I would have actually called him Captain Thunder if I was forced to pick a name as that was originally going to be his name in the very first place many generations ago.
Blackvoid
Blackvoid - 3/6/2013, 5:39 PM
Ooo I like Captain Thunder, I can eat that.

@Shadowelfz Oh its coming, the Shazam backups have been going over very well. They're prolly working on it now. I would love if they kept Gary Frank on pencils.

@hellshammer

Harry Potter is totally different animal. It was based on real books that already had a following. The primary target audiences for those movies are the young fans of the books. And even though I have never read one Potter book or seen any of the movies, it doesn't appear that they cross-pollinate "magic" with "superheroes". Harry Potter used magic and sorcery in the traditional sense that we expect, and fought villains that used it similarly. If Harry transformed into an adult with Superman-like abilities, and battled aliens and other supervillains, the studio would've passed in a heartbeat...

If Billy Batson says, "SHAZAM" he'll turn into Captain Marvel. And if Captain Marvel says, "SHAZAM" he'll turn back to Billy. So how's he gonna change back and forth in the 52 comics if his name is "SHAZAM"?
Blackvoid
Blackvoid - 3/6/2013, 6:21 PM
@superbigguy As long as billy doesnt talk in the third person, he wont have to worry about any accidental transformations. lol

@Blackvoid I thought the same thing, LMAO. But what if someone ask him what's your name? Does he have to write it down or text it, hahaha. I just say let him stay as Captain Marvel.
Tymminator
Tymminator - 3/6/2013, 6:49 PM

No, Billy/Shazam can say the name at any time. He only changes if he says it and wants to change. He has to have intent, no accidental changes. This is all with his new revised origin.
storyteller
storyteller - 3/6/2013, 6:50 PM
In the new52, Billy needs to intend to say Shazam in order to call down the lightning that changes him back. So he doesn't have to avoid saying the name.

As to picking a better name then Shazam. Why?
The character says the name to transform, why is it not an appropriate name for the hero. Anything else would just be different.
