COMICS: The Caped Crusader Battles The Joker In First Look At Inked Pencils From BATMAN #17

Batman #16 was a real, ahem, "shocker" and in this first look at Greg Capullo's pencils from issue #17, we see the Caped Crusader battling out with the Clown Prince of Crime in the final chapter of Scott Snyder's "Death of the Family".

The latest issue of Batman was perhaps Scott Snyder's most horrific yet as the Caped Crusader tracked the villain down to Arkham Asylum and was confronted by some hideous sights. Talking to Comic Book Resources earlier today, the writer had this to say about the next instalment in the series: "I was actually joking on the phone with Dan Slott after "Spider-Man" #700. I was telling him how I felt so bad because it sounded like things got crazy for him, and he said, "Wait until you get to 'Batman' #17! You'll have the same." So honestly, maybe I will go be in a bunker somewhere the day that issue comes out. But I believe in the ending very strongly. I believe in the story beat we're headed towards." So, it sounds as if we should expect one of the family not to make it out alive! Below is a first look at Greg Capullo's pencils from issue #17.

• This is it: The stunning conclusion to "DEATH OF THE FAMILY"!
• Who lives? Who dies? Who laughs last? Find out as Batman and The Joker face off one last time!
