EDITORIAL: What Should Be The Next DC Comics Movie?

After "The Dark Knight Rises" premieres this July and "Man of Steel" is released in 2013, which DC Comics character/property do you guys think should be the next to get it's own movie?

There's always a lot of talk going on about rumors of which DC Comics character will be the next to get their own movie. But I'm interested to hear what you, the fans, think would be best as far as STORY, CHARACTER PERSONALITY, FRANCHISE/SEQUAL POTENTIAL, and What would draw in NON-COMIC READING audiences.

THE FLASH

There has been talk of a Flash movie in the works for the last couple of years. David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Man of Steel) was said to have not only made a treatment, but had also completed a script and had done several rewrites, but it never made it into production. Then, a few months ago it was leaked that Geoff Johns had submitted a treatment that the WB was interested in and ordered a script for. It was said Geoff would make an announcement about it at this past years San Diego comic con, but he didn't.

WONDER WOMAN

After the failed pilot for the David E. Kelly television show, it seems that the rights to Wonder Woman are back on the table. So, would you guys like/actually go see a major motion picture featuring a female super hero or would it be a waste of money? I feel like if it were very action oriented, with a lot of the story/plot focused on Ares trying to free Hades from the Underworld, it would not only be a good story, but could lead to a sequel where Hades IS freed, and threatens to bring Hell up with him. I could be like Gladiator meets Supernatural.

CAPTAIN MARVEL/SHAZAM

There has been recent talk about a Captain Marvel movie being in the works. Geoff Johns was recently quoted as saying that there IS a Captain Marvel script, that it has not been green lit, BUT it is not dead. Do you guys think that Captain Marvel would be good, or is he too much of a C level hero? That there are better characters out there that deserve a movie before him? Do you think the fact that Captain Marvel has the personality and mind set of a child could make the movie campy and lame?

AQUAMAN

After the recent colassal success that Geoff Johns has had with the character in recent years in the comics, it seems that fans have come to really like Aquaman, and don't just see him as the lame member of the JLA who is only useful when they're near water. I think he has a lot of potential with the whole king/ruler of Atlantis story angle. Also, his super strength, speed in water, and his durability could lend to some awesome fight sequences and special effects. I could see a big war between the Atlanteans and the Sirens cropping up and the people of Atlantis go to the surface world to retrieve their true King to lead his people into battle against them.

GREEN ARROW

I know that they're making a new tv series for Green Arrow (IF the pilot gets picked up), but would you guys really rather see Green Arrow on the big screen or is the character too much like Batman that it wouldn't show us anything new? Does the character have enough back story and possibility to carry his own movie, if not franchise?

GREEN LANTERN SEQUEL

After the box office flop that was "Green Lantern", would you guys rather see DC take another whack at the Emerald Crusader before they move on to another character? While the story and editing was poor and the movie was rushed, "Green Lantern" did have some very good special effects and designs in my opinion. I though the suits looked cool and the ring constructs were awesome to see.

So, guys: What does everyone think? Cast your opinions in the usual place and lets see who wins out!

I think DC would want Flash next.

After Man of Steel my attention goes to Marvel.

But if I had a say, it would be Aquaman.

Solo movies are all fine and dandy, but after The Avengers id say DC skip the solo and start of with JLA movie then the spinoffs into solo movies

Marvel has had some sucess with its smaller properties. Blade was good and Ghost Rider made money. Maybe they should try some of there horror comics. They tried with Swamp Thing 1 and 2 but they were horrible. Maybe with CG the way it is today they should try again. there is also the Demon which could be like a highlander type movie. showing the character throughout the ages.

Big budget I would love to see a Batman/Superman. i think depending on how the new superman does we might just see one.

DC should make their movies darker and more serious to separate them from the lighter toned Marvel films.

In all seriousness, I hope the Flash gets made, but DC has some other cool properties.....Imagine:

1.A Captain Atom movie-Air Force pilot becomes an unstable walking nuclear disaster! Villain could be Major Force..with a great story and excellent characters...I'd see it

2. Aquaman-This can be cool if done right, and i think millions of people would watch just out of sheer curiosity

Flash should be the next DC film, and it should be the WB's answer to Iron Man. Wonder Woman should also come out either the same year or a year later IMO. Then it should be Aquaman and Green Arrow. Green Lantern should be rebooted in a couple of years. Hopefully these can link with Man of Steel, and perhaps a rebooted Batman, Arkham City Style, leading to a Justice League film.

Never a CAPTAIN MARVEL movie!

He hasn't been relevant in the
JUSTICE LEAGUE or the DCU for a
long, long time! He just doesn't
hardly fit in this modern world,
kinda redundant too, he's kinda
SUPERMAN & WONDER WOMAN combined,
REDUNDANT!

The very next movie MUST BE WONDER
WOMAN done right! She is the third person
of THE TRINITY, for crying out loud!

It is VERY POSSIBLE to fit her into
the sophisticated modern world without
making her a joke.

She needs the GREEK AMAZON warrior-woman
uniform, with the dark-red, leather,
armored bustier top, the dark blue leather,
armored war-skirt and the tiara-like
warrior-woman armored headdress.

Next, right after that, a seriously done
FLASH with BARRY ALLEN, not the humorous
WALLY!

They've already introduced HAL JORDAN/GL,
albeit an extremely poorly-done HAL, but
a HAL-JL none-the-less.

And THE MAN OF STEEL is coming and will
establish HENRY CAVILL as SUPERMAN/CLARK
KENT,

Then reboot BATMAN and make him fit back
into the sci-fi-world that the DCU IS &
SHOULD BE!

Then finally do a correct, heroic, SUPERHERO
JUSTICE LEAGUE, a la MARVEL'S THE AVENGERS.

Then MARVEL & DC would be completely equal
and their superheroes would be completely
fitting!

WHAT A WONDERFUL SUPERHERO CINEMATIC WORLD
IT WOULD BE!

Please stop the darkness!

BATMAN is kinda dark but the rest of the
DCU SUPERHEROES are not! They are no
different than the MARVEL SUPERHEROES.

Make the JUSTICE LEAGUE just like THE
AVENGERS, superheroes yet very grown-up,
credible and sophisticated.

The CORRECT, RELEVANT WONDER WOMAN.

I agree I think Gina Carrano could pull it off. Has anyone seen Haywire. The movie itself was ok but she pulls off a bad ass chick like no one. I could se Evangiline Lilly playing a good Wonder Woman as well. I agree with the thought of an Atom movie.

Maybe DC should try something different. Maybe a Lex Luther show on HBO. A sopranos type crime drama. I could see a bald Clancy Brown pulling that off.

The one thing DC should avoid is just trying to make movies. Anyone remember "Steel" with Shack? Horrible!!!!!

IMO, they shouldn't do another GL movie until after Justice League. Use the other heroes to prop him up. People will come for the others then be surprised at how much they like GL. Then they'll be willing to forget about this first movie when they see that the version they liked from JL is getting his own movie.

Wonder Twins! The twist would be they are the children of Superman and Wonder Woman, and it's set in the future.

All of these. Or just The Flash and Wonder Woman. The rest of these characters I could take or leave, honestly.

Also, Gina Carrano needs to be a better actress before she becomes Wonder Woman, btw.

nice write-up

Listen up DC... Make the Justice League - not a freaking comedy. READ - Kingdom Come and make the freaking movie. The story is relevant, the story is involving, the story is scary good. If made verbatim, no one will remember the Watchmen (though it was excellent). Drop this movie out of the sky onto the heads of all unsuspecting fanboys, fangirls and the general public alike.

Nevermind the build up of characters through stand alone movies, this project will introduce and remind everyone of the characters in the DC universe. Therefore generating interest for following spinoffs - "Wonder Woman", "the Flash", "Aquaman", "Knightwing" etc..., and even "Captain Marvel" who plays a surprising role in the story. I think most fans have forgotten how awesomely powerful lil Billy can be.

If this story is done with the same cinematic care and artistic vision as Watchmen all the following spin-offs will benefit as well. I had never read the Watchmen books, I was wayyyy out of the loop, so when the movie came out I was in awe at how good it was. And, I was craving more of the story. I wanted to know more about the characters. I wanted to see more. Still waiting for the pre-quel. Make the damn movie...
