Although no name was given, Dan Didio revealed today at Kapow that they are planning to bring back a previously existing DC character into the DCnU but alter that character's sexual orientation.

Didio claimed that this character would become "one of our most prominent gay characters."

DC have taken the opportunity to introduce more LGBT character into the DCU thanks to last year's reboot, as well as expanding on already gay characters such as Batwoman. Gail Simone even revealed they were going to bring Catman out of the closet before the reboot; But this news certainly came out of left field.

I'm sure this news will cause much speculation as to who this mystery character is, so leave your thoughts and theories below!

Bizarro would actually be a great idea, instead of loving Lois he loves Superman, with a talented writer that could be a fantastic story full of emotion.

@RunDTC: Isn't everything Marvel and DC do because of that? I mean X-Men vs Avengers was pretty contrived....

There is quite a few characters that haven't been introduced in the New 52 reboot yet.

They don't make it clear if the person is a hero or villain. That doesn't exactly narrow it down.

I hope DC is doing this for the story, and not to make headlines.

Maybe Plastic Man. After the profound "Identity Crisis", no story could possibly live up to it.

My money is on Renee Montoya, and she'll be straight.

This is so stupid the only reason they are doing this is because having a gay character is the new it thing. If they want a gay character instead of making an established heterosexual character gay they should create a character who just happens to be gay.

Although I'd prefer if they just made a new character, it wouldn't bother me too much if it was Wally West. But a gay character that wasn't treated as a stereotype, with a good writer and his own series, would be interesting to see. We don't have enough new, modern, relevant characters that aren't spun off of pre-existing superheroes (Miles Morales). I think something new, original, and relevant is something the industry could use more of, as opposed to only telling the continuing adventures of 50-80 year old characters. Build new legacies.

I agree, why can't they create BRAND NEW characters for these different minorities they are targeting??? Why do they prefer to change well known character to suit only one or two minority, not that other readers will be grossly alienated, but it's a needless and frankly desperate stunt.

The article says they are BRINGING BACK A PREVIOUSLY EXISTING character...meaning someone who hasnt been introduced in the the new 52 yet.

My bet is Ted Kord.

Its not Nightwing or anybody already in the New 52. Its a character they have not re-introduced yet.
Wally West would be a safe bet.

Catwoman, do you work for FedEx or something? So concerned with shipping things...

This feels like a forced move on DC's part, but so was the New 52, so I don't see why anyone whose enjoying that should be bothered by this unless they have deeper issues with homosexuality. In which case, a comic most likely isn't going to change their minds anyway. Though I doubt they made this decision to change minds. If it works inside the context of the story, that's all you can ask for, really.
