While talking with Comicbookresources.com, Alex Alonso, Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief gave his feedback on Kris Anka's new costume design for Spider-woman. He says it was time for a change. "I love it. ["Spider-Woman" editor] Nick Lowe thought it was time for Spider-Woman to get a new look, since she’s worn the same costume since the late seventies.” He then praises Nick and Dennis, while reaffirming that he loves the new design by Anka, “Nick and Dennis [Hopeless] planned on making some big status quo changes with her after "Spider-Verse" -- something a bit more practical but with a bit of bounce fit the bill. Kris Anka did a great job.” As for the Sony Hack, Alonso said that those incidents "do not reflect those of Marvel Comics” and that him and his wife, after hearing about “The interview” knew there was going to be "troooouuuuublllllle!" For those of you who did not know Spider-woman got a re-design, you can check it out above, as well as the image below. How do you like this re-design? Sound off below with your thoughts!

I like the costume. I can see it being the one we see when Spider-Woman eventually joins the movies.

Costume is pretty cool looking.

The first picture doesn't do it justice, though.

I really like the new costume, it definitely needed an update. Makes me even more bummed that Skye didn't end up being Jessica Drew even though the rights issues are sticky.

@NightWatcher

I've been looking at the teaser image for half-an-hour, hoping it would move.

I'm going to have to warm up to this new costume because Jessica Drew has had the other costume FOREVER now to where I immediately associate that with Jessica Drew.

I like it a lot too. Its more practical and a lot less sexualizing, good job.

Love the design, other than the goggles. Didn't really think the suit needed an update but I don't mind that they did it.

Unlike Peter Parker, Jessica Drew's armpit web wings are actually functional.

@Ford the suit is slightly looser around the torso and neck, so is it less sexualized? Technically yes, but not by a lot.

Might be going to spoilery territory here, but what if, after the event s of the Spider-Verse, silk takes over the mantle of spider-woman? Cause I just can't see the current spider-woman wearing sth. like this what with her characters condition in the current version. Well, we'll see

Just wondering, Who owns the rights to Spider-Woman?? I'm guessing it's Sony

Actually I am pretty sure Marvel has the rights.

Not really. Do you see a facial-covering mask on her? Do you see a leather jacket on her? Does she have the same type of boots? Gloves? Belt?

I think your lust for all things DC is blinding you unless this costume shows up in a Sony movie.

No trust me, I can. Those goggles totally look like Batgirl's mask. When it's cold outside, I'm gonna wear that spandex Spider-Woman's wearing because it's just like that leather jacket Batgirl's wearing. And you're right, that emblem of hers looks exactly like a bat; I can see the ears, wings, and everything. Not to mention, that color scheme, too, amiright? It's like they altered her color scheme to look like Batgirl's. It's not like she had it before, right?

Here is a response from Kris Anka, the man who designed the new costume, on supposedly ripping-off the new Batgirl outfit:

no, this wasn’t a response to the batgirl design. i had begun this design back in july. this also wasn’t a response to the manara cover.

i was given a synopsis of where the series was going from issue 5 onwards, so i designed based off that. if I’m honest, i would say the david aja designs for hawkeye and kate bishop were much more the intended direction in the beginning.

you have to remember, these designs aren’t made in a vacuum. it’s rarely ever just me doing designs once on my own and thats what they pick. there was months of back and forth with at least 5 people giving their input. it’s a lot of compromising and trying to figure out what everyone wants and trying to include that the best way possible.

as for the similarities with batgirl, i just think that goes to show that babs, cameron and I have similar sensibilities. hell, when i did a batgirl redesign for fun back in april, i gave her a thick jacket haha.

I don't know why you still keep bringing up Shazam. He did get a redesigned costume for the New 52.

No change needed. And it is a reaction to the Manara cover. Wonder if they'll change her powers too and take away the pheromones?

I liked the old one. Especially the mask. That's iconic.
