COMICS: Alpha To Get A Five-Issue Miniseries; Peter Parker Confirmed As Surviving ASM #700?

It's been widely assumed that Peter Parker would meet his maker in Amazing Spider-Man #700, but the news that Alpha will be getting a five-issue "Marvel NOW!" miniseries seems to indicate otherwise. Hit the jump for further details.

USA Today reports that a five-issue Alpha miniseries will be released next February from the creative team of writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and artist Nuno Plati. He made his debut in Amazing Spider-Man #692 and quickly became one of the most disliked newly created characters in recent years (something which Dan Slott and Stephen Wacker have since claimed was their intention all along). According to the site, "Alpha will pick up with Andy three months since readers last saw him. His parents are splitting, and he's moving to Pittsburgh" and most interestingly, "he has to fly back to New York every couple of weeks on a Horizon private jet and check in with Peter on how he's doing." So, that presumably means that Peter Parker WILL still be alive following the events of Amazing Spider-Man #700. Of course, this could be another red herring - we won't know until December 26th! You can read more by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page, but the site mentions that the series will be set in Pittsburgh and that Andy Maguire will regain at least some of his powers.

No, the article's just telling us he gets a a mini series, but the more important news is that Peter looks to be alive still, which is fine with me.

Alph won't be the new Spidey...if this is confirming Peter survives the events of 700 he must be superior Spider-Man...the image of Spidey in the background there is the superior Spidey!!

Superior Spider-Man = Peter Parker don't let marvel fool you otherwise!

peter will live. I am sure he will suffer some kind emotional/physical injury that will prevent him from being spider-man. He will just be a lab rat until he recovers and takes his mantle.

i have heard that the folks at marvel and dc are being heavily influenced by CBMs and working around the successes and failures on the big screen. which would explain the plethora of avengers comics right now.

but also, ever since MCU's taken off, it seems PP's being treated like shit in favor of iron man and the others. spider-man is still marvel's highest grossing solo superhero at the films of all time (tasm made more money than even iron man 2), and they'd better start showing him some [frick]ing respect.

Peter's going to retire as Spider-Man (maybe lose his powers?) and become a mentor to Alpha and the new Spider-Man.

I think this will end up similar to the Batman: Battle For The Cowl arc. They will likely introduce Miguel O'Hara in the 616 universe as a temporary replacement for Peter until he does eventually return to being Spider-Man. There is no way it's a permanent change. Of course, unless all of this is one large red herring and Peter remains Spider-Man, which I damn well hope for.

Why would you give a miniseries to the most hated marvel character over the last 10 years maybe beaten by the sentry? Dan slott needs to leave amazing spider-man, he does not get the character at all, he writes him like a hyperactive 7 year old on a sugar rush. And the way he writes villains is insulting, for example phil urich the new hobgoblins motivations for being the hobgoblin is that he wants to bang Norah winters by showing her tapes of him in costume killing people. This is just mind numbing shit, the amazing spider-man is supposed to be the flagship title for marvel yet they've got a c-list writer on it.

@Spideyguy94- I hate the way Slott writes Hobogoblin. He's written like a carbon copy of the Joker. Except where the Joker is frightening and unpredictable, Hobogoblin is just a cartoon character.

Spideyguy94 - 11/1/2012, 6:40 PM
@CaptainObvious - I hate almost everything slott has written on spidey. Writes spider-man way too jokey and borderline incompetent plus he cannot write relationships for shit. The original hobgoblin dominated the spider-man books for a large chunk of the 80's and had an interesting character and actually had a motivation that made sense, then just gets killed off by some schmuck who's motivation for murdering people and doing horrible things is that he wants to bang a girl who he knows has a boyfriend, he's like you said man just stereotypical cartoon character. This is the standard that the amazing spider-man has dropped too since jms left and ultimate spider-man has been leaps and bounds above amazing,. I honestly can't think of a book that has been this consistently mediocre to poor for this long. Get Hickman waid or Aaron because these dudes get spidey unlike slott and the majority of the heads at marvel (I'm looking at you quesada)
