Ya the description sums it up pretty well... not a fan unfortunately. This could have been one of the best marvel now books but it looks like I'll be dropping it.

Dang, I used to LOVE Walt's work.
I won't drop this book.
Writer and Story trump art, for me.
Artists will rotate I'm sure.

Terrible art, but I kind of like/hate Thor going back to his classic costume even if it's just the artist shitting the bed and having no idea what he's doing.

hating on this art is akin to those hating on the new art on the current captain marvel art team.

Simonson's art isn't bad, stylized yes.
but far FAR from bad.

i dig it.

While this is certainly different, it's actually refreshing to see a different drawing style. It's actually exciting to look at the pictures without any dialogue yet.I believe the people who dislike the art are simply more comfortable with the more common styles that have been rinsed, reused and recycled. "How exciting, the same stuff! Yeah, but this is crap..."
ScionStorm

It's not the rendering. I think it's the coloring in general is not being utilized toward Simonson's style. It feel like the colors are actually fighting against the B/W in places.

Get a better colorist who can sync up with Simonson. All will be well. He's a great storyteller.

Get Leinil Yu back on this. I never gave a Shit about Simonson's art.

As an artist myself I hate when people call other artist work ugly, If you can't do better shut the f@#k up!
Jerec350
Jerec350 - 3/12/2013, 3:51 AM
I can't draw worth a crap but as a customer I feel I have the right to criticize any artwork I feel is ugly. Like the preview above. If I'm spending my hard earned cash on a product then I have the right to speak my opinion on said product. The mentality of "if you can't do better then don't say anything" applied to everything then nothing would ever improve. I can't make a car either so if I say the PT Cruiser is a piece of crap (I earned the right to say it since I used to own one) I'm wrong?
CorronZenith30
CorronZenith30 - 3/12/2013, 3:58 AM
Though I'm not huge fan of this art persay, I would by no means call it ugly - especially when he can draw a darn sight blooming better than me!
CorronZenith30
CorronZenith30 - 3/12/2013, 4:05 AM
But freedom of speech n all, I get it. We are all entitled to speak our mind as we'll - due to having an invested interest, like being a customer.. I agree with that

seriously, anyone hating on Simonson drawing Thor or doing splash pages has NO respect for the history. What a shame.

I met him a few years back; he's not only a humble legend, but absolutely hilarious and quick witted.
NorrinRaddical
NorrinRaddical - 3/12/2013, 5:32 AM
@ ScionStorm - I'll concede, the coloring is not doing him justice. Too bright and flat?

This entire comments section fails horribly. No, Walt's pencils aren't as tight or meticulously pored over as many contemporary artists, but that was never what he was about. He came up in a time when dynamic Kirby-esque art with more exaggerated proportions and a much more free flowing style were the norm, and he was pushing the comic book art form forward when guys like Bryan Hitch and Leinil Yu were just a twinkle in their daddy's eye.

I think the art in this preview is a little rough and not his best, but when you consider the fact that Walt's pushing 70, is from a completely different era artistically that had very different aesthetics, and is still knocking out major titles alongside the young virtuosos, I can't help but respect both the man and the effort.

This is Just for a [frick]ing arc people, walter isn't staying, and if you are willing to drop a book because of the art then [frick]ing idiotic. at least this has good writing, unlike the stuff bendis makes.
