COMICS: First Look At Marvel NOW!'s THOR: GOD OF THUNDER

Check out the cover to Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic's new Thor comic, which will debut as part of the Marvel NOW! relaunch. Aaron also reveals that we are in for a pretty unique take on the character, and we will see a brand new villain too -- Gorr, "the God Butcher"..

Jason Aaron tells Newsarama what we can expect from the new series, revealing that his take on Thor will involve three different "past, present, and future" versions of the character..

"I do flash back and show a young Thor in action, but he's actually just one of three Thors that I want to focus on. This first story is an epic tale that plays out over the course of thousands of years. So we spend time with young Thor in the Viking age — the young, hotheaded god of the Vikings, who loves to come down to Midgard and get into trouble. In the present, we see Thor the Avenger on a journey that takes him to the far corners of space, interacting with all sorts of new space gods and wondrous new locations. And then we also see old King Thor, who's the last king of Asgard, thousands of years in the future, where something has gone horribly, horribly wrong. Linking all these eras and Thors together is one villain, an all-new character [Gorr, the God Butcher], who is basically, at least initially, a serial killer of gods. He's a guy with a serious axe to grind against all immortal beings in the cosmos, and he's going around doing his best to kill them all off, one at a time, as brutally as possible. That villain's story unfolds over the course of all these different eras. He starts as a serial killer of gods, but by the end, he has become something even more frightening."

That sounds pretty damn great to me. Looking forward to this one in November. For the full interview click the link back to Newsarama below.

Glad his arms are bare again.........an indestructable hero wearing armor is so friggin lame.........but WTF is with all the black in uniforms for Marvel Now? Thors mostly black. Iron Man is black and gold. what are they supposed to be "darker, grittier" versions now like DC's earth two douchebags, or the ultimates???

@TheGambitFreak yea I noticed the all seeing eye on Odins sword end and even the fact that he himself has an "all seeing eye" has illuminati propaganda written all over it.

Sounds good they should introduce many more cosmic baddies here that they can use in any Avengers or any other movies they may want to make , maybe even a Galactus clone or someone similar .

@ckal, I looked up Desak and yeah, I totally agree with you that both him and this new villain are identical. Well, agenda-wise they are.

Marvel may not be resetting the clock on their characters, but this is still definitely s response to what DC did with the New 52, from a potential cash-cow perspective..and there's nothing wrong with that, business is business. I just hope we get some great new comics.

Personally don't care either way.

The costume looks like a variation of the "Ages of Thunder" Thor... curious on how this one comes out. Personally though, I like Oliver Coipel's version of the way the Thunder God was drawn.
GUNSMITH
GUNSMITH - 8/7/2012, 8:39 AM
I LIKE THAT GET UP HE HAS, IT LOOKS MODERNIZED YET THE KILT DEALIO MAKES HIM LOOK MORE "NORSE" AND HIM SHOWING THE GUNS MAKES HIM LOOK LIKE A BAD AZZ..I COULD SEE HEMSWORTH SPORTING THAT LOOK IN THOR 2, HE COULD PULL IT OFF. EVEN THOUGH I LIKED THE COSTUME IN AVENGERS, THIS ONE LOOKS MORE IN THE VIEN OF MYTHOLOGICAL YET MODERNIZED...IT'S COOL, THE ONLY THING I FELT AWKWARD WITH IN THE THOR FILMS WAS THOSE LEATHER BIKER PANTS..THEY GOT MOTORCYCLES IN ASGARD?.
GUNSMITH

@GUNSMITH Those are cool, but sleeveless all the way!!!

Man, the sleeveless version is the perfect mix of Ultimate, 616 (Kirby Costume) It makes me all exuberant to see this costume, THOR: The Dark World! YEAH!
