USA Today has recently revealed some key plot points regarding the Avengers: The Children's Crusade which will tie-in nicely to the recently teased Avengers: X-Sanction. During Marvel's Next Big Thing Live Chat where Tom Brevoort and Jeph Loeb revealed that Cable would be returning to take on the Avengers to save his "daughter", Hope. Now it looks like nuermous children of the superhero community will be playing a significant role, as unresolved story lines from House of M appear to be playing a factor as well. Spoilers Below, highlight to uncover:

[quote]"Superpowered teens Wiccan and Speed found their mother, the Scarlet Witch (aka Wanda Maximoff), without powers or memory but with a new fiancé: Doctor Doom. Thanks to the reappearance of Iron Lad and a rescue by the Young Avengers, Wanda remembers what fans have known since the "Avengers: Disassembled" and "House of M" story lines: that she killed Avengers during a murderous rampage and later depowered scores of mutants.

Cyclops and the X-Men know what kind of role the ex-Avenger played — not a good one, as they recall — so the action heats up when they appear on the scene, and Issue 8 is the bloody climax of a war between Doctor Doom, Wanda's dad Magneto and a whole host of heroes "that results in a tragic death and terrible losses for everyone involved," writer Allan Heinberg says.

The events of Children's Crusade will be felt after it ends, Heinberg promises. By the time the final issue is out in January, it will have caught up with Marvel continuity and dovetail into big things involving the Avengers and the X-Men."
[end quote]

Be sure to head over to USA Today as the article has much more from series writer Allan Heinberg. And here's a preview of Avengers: The Children's Crusade issue 7 which promises a first look at the explosive showdown on the horizon between the X-Men and the Avengers. Who knew Cap and Cyc were twins? Fantastic art, but you'd think someone this talented could draw two separate macho faces.

that's some cheesy writing right there. I can practically hear the trumpets playing.

@ScIFiNut they are two white guys who are macho men who are generally mad or the heroic type, they tend to blend together for some reason, and would you want that scott or crybaby scott from the movie?

I like it. Rictor was always a favorite of mine, and its good to see he has his powers back! A side note if you will however:

Seriously, does there always have to be someone who has a problem with EVERYTHING? I mean, really. If the messiah came back (or finally showed up depending on your faith) you'd have issues with that wouldn't you? I can see it now.

"My children, I have returned for you to-"

"Oh, FINALLY, Jeez, you know the past 2000 years have sucked so hard. The roses were dull colored and dialogue has been sooooo lame. I mean, hell I didn't even move out of my mom's basement its so dull!"

"Yes... but, I'm here now, and its kind of a big deal."

"Big deal?! I'll tell you what the big deal is, Brett Ratner RUINED X-3. And let me ask you this 'Messiah', WHY did they bring AOA Nightcrawler into 616?! TRAVESTY"

"You know what... Maybe I'll just wait another 2000 years. Enjoy the Kardashians." *poof*

heres what I don't get, it's taking so long for a 9 issue mini-series to get done, that to me is a very bad idea, it shows to me a lack of interest on Marvels front, this story is about the return of one of the iconic female Avengers characters and reuniting with her children, another problem is placing this series in the overall continuity of the universe since it has Steve Rogers as Captain America, which only just occurred in Fear Itself. The Avengers and X-men always seem to have moments of clashing, there has been and always will be Avengers Vs X-men story with every decade or comic age.

Plus.....DR. Doom marrying the Scarlett Witch, kind of creepy if you ask me.

If you have not read this, it is a great series so far. It's been over a year since the first issue was released. The artwork is fantastic and the story has been top notch.

So far so good with the series. Just annoying it will take over a year to complete the run.

My guess is the battle, somehow involving Hope, will more concern itself with the Avengers accepting Wanda back in and protecting her while the X-Men come a-knocking for her to answer for her crimes against Mutant-kind. Since Wolverine is an Avenger, and Beast in the past as well, I wonder if this will further divide the mutants that began in Schism. And if Logan and Hank side with the Avengers this could further reinforce the two as team members on their side of the divide.

On the fourth page, has anyone else noticed the oddity that Magneto is grouped in with the Avengers in that shot and not the X-Men?
ScionStorm
ScionStorm - 9/20/2011, 9:54 PM
Somehow, Magneto as an Avenger is very appealing to me. 2 out of his 3 children are Avengers and his two grandsons are Young Avengers. Now that he's not a supervillain I kinda want to see how he would do as part of Earth's Mightiest. It would at least give him the time to heal his family in an environment where Mutant Rights are not the ever-present topic of discussion.

Magneto, Avenger? That would be one of the most awesomeness things I can ever think of. But he'd need a new costume, something a little less bulky.

What an un-cool and unfortunately titled story-arc...Children's Crusade? Sounds like a charity comic book drawn by some intern at Marvel.

Still, X-Men vs Avengers could be cool...They've clashed a lot over the years, but not recently.

I've always loved it when the different Marvel teams get together, but something seems out of place.

If Cap is supposed to be Steve Rogers right now then why isn't Colossus in his new "Colossonaut" form? Didn't both of these things happen during Fear Itself?

well marvel has been making some great comics, but yes they dont seem to like to tie all the stories together to much lol, agreed schizm, fear itself and some other story lines going on, i think there just pumping out stories that are all diff just because they have so many ideas and dont want to let them sit on the shelves to long

Killing characters no longer matters to me. I have higher expectations of a writer who doesn't kill anyone and allows the story to develop it's own impactful moments.
