COMICS: The Massive Twist In THE SUPERIOR SPIDER-MAN #1 Revealed

Those of you who vowed to not buy The Superior Spider-Man as a result of the events of Amazing Spider-Man #700 will be eating your words once you see this! Writer Dan Slott also comments on the huge twist featured in the issue.

I think it's fair to say that none of us will have seen this coming! As you can see from the scans below - which actually found their way online a few days ago - Peter Parker somehow survived the events of Amazing Spider-Man #700 and is now trapped inside his own body. Will he be able to fight back and eventually regain control from the villainous Doctor Octopus? And just how long will he be able to stop Ock's murderous ways?! We'll have to wait and see! Issue #2 goes on sale in two weeks time and I highly recommend checking out this instalment regardless of how you responded to the events of #700. To hear Slott's thoughts on the shocking twist, be sure to click on the link below to watch a video interview with him courtesy of our friends over at MTV Geek.

Yea, Peter will "become" Spider-Man again...when TASM2 comes out!

I don't particularly like Spider-man, so i don't read the comics, so i haven't reacted as angrily to the whole twist as i expect many have. However, i think this is a pretty disappointing twist. I mean, Parker's still there? kind of kills any emotional punch this may have had.

HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN THIS OUT THOUGH? WAS IT A CLONED MIND THAT WENT INTO OCKS BODY OR SOME KIND OF IMPRINT OR WHAT? AND WHAT ABOUT OCK AND PETE SHARING A BODY? SPIDERMAN WITH MULTIPLE PERSONALITIES? CAN WE GET DR STRANGE TO TRANSFER OCK INTO A CLONE BODY OR EVEN A ANDROID BODY?, IF OCK WAS IN A MACHINE, THE LOOKS U COULD CREATE WITH HIM WITH THE TECH HE COULD IMPROVE ON WOULD TOTALLY REVAMP HIM.

I'd have preferred if he stayed dead to be resurrected at a later date TBH. This is a bit...silly.

Because Peter was never REALLY dead just overwritten with Otto's brain patterns. This will end up a battle of wills that Peter obviously will win at some point (coughs** when TAS2 comes out). This just made me want to buy.

So basically the end of Superior #1 completely undoes the ending of Amazing #700....seriously that is the dumbest thing ever...

Marvel get Slott of Spider-Man he's completely lost the plot!!!

Mrcool210 - 1/9/2013, 11:01 AM
sorry josh, but considering how nobody in marvel 616 stays dead i actually did see this twist coming, i just thought it would happen later, its like slott only put that in so people can know this series will be cancelled soon, even though before this they wouldnt shut up about how this would be a permanent change

No Josh. Just no. You'd published a few articles now trying to convince people how awesome this is but it simply isn't. It's stupid. Even if there's a clear plan to bring Peter back, it's just a stupid story.

This way Peter gets to see all the ways Otto is messing up his life. Otto's gonna mess up Peter's social life, maybe get him fired.. When Peter finally gets control back his life is gonna be all messed up. Which is one of the things we like about Spider-man, right.? His problems.

Superior #1 WAS fun.. Just enjoy the ride.

IF I WERE TO GUESS...THEY'LL FIGURE OUT A WAY TO SEPARATE THEM, PETER WILL BE PETER AGAIN AND COME AWAY FROM THIS WITH A LIFE LESSON..OCK, WELL YOU FIGURE HE AFTER BEING TRANSFERRED INTO A NEW BOD BECOME A DARK SUPERHERO WICH MARVEL HAS BEEN HITTING HOME RUNS WITH, WITH GOOD RUNS LIKE FLASH/ VENOM AND SCARLET SPIDER...ANOTHER DARK SUPERHERO IS INEVITABLE. CLONING A NEW BODY WOULDNT BE HARD, HECK THEY CLONED PARKER, I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF THEY FOUND AN EXTRA BLANK PARKER CLONE IN SOME TANK SOMEWHERE THAT THE JACKAL HAD IN SOME FORGOTTEN SECRET LAB SOMEWHERE..BUT I WOULDNT GIVE OCK ALL OF PETER'S SPIDER POWERS..KEEP HIM OCK..BUT UPGRADE HIM.

What the [frick] is going on?! Is Peter a force ghost now?
RadicalDuck

Kinda liked it, kinda didn't. Its good that Peter is actually alive, but it is a slight cop-out. As much as I thought I'd hate the issue, I was quite surprised: Ocks speech coming out of Peter's mouth is hilarious and the way he takes down the Sinister Six is badass. I hope Peter retains this quality when he returns.

So he's a Jedi knight?
MJPETTY7
MJPETTY7 - 1/9/2013, 11:17 AM
@Gunsmith They may explain it as Peter couldn't die be amuse his soul is tethered to his body, which is why he's still there and can semi-control it.

Bah.

Between New 52 and Marvel NOW my pulls are seriously getting lighter and lighter.

At least I have some comic movies I enjoy for my supers-fix, cause I actually can see a time in the not too distant future where I drop the hobby for the most part and only pick up things occasionally like Astro City in the rare blue moon that pops up.

Still enjoy Invincible though...

There's no silver lining here? Not a hint of bright side?

It could be that we get really good characterful storytelling out of this. Do we get to see Peter try and redeem this former villain? Do we see Ock try to control this memory/personality imprint or get rid of it? Doc is confronted with the other side of the conflict and is eventually forced to examine himself through Peter's intervention?

I don't disagree that it could have been handled differently, but I think that there are some great opportunities to tell an interesting story.
