Jonathan Hickman has put the X-Men back on the map in a big way with
House of X and
Powers of X, and in today's issue of the former, we learn that Professor X has found a way to make mutants essentially immortal moving forward.
Using the combined might of Hope Summers, Tempus, Elixr, Proteus, and Goldballs along with the mutant DNA gathered by Mr. Sinister and copies of their minds he's utilized through Cerebro, Charles brings back the entire team of X-Men who were killed at the end of the previous issue. Now, he also hopes to resurrect those murdered in Genosha way back when.
As the issue progresses, Professor X's morally ambiguous nature becomes more and more apparent, especially after he approves of Emma Frost using some pretty villainous means to ensure that Krakoa has been named a sovereign nation. Things take another unexpected turn in the final few pages as Charles welcomes in a number of X-Men villains and declares that all mutants now stand together, including Apocalypse who aligns himself with Professor X on the final page.
With just a few issues left across these two books, you have to wonder what else Hickman has planned, as it's becoming clear that these characters will never be the same again.
