2022 marks 60 years of arguably the most iconic comic book character of all time: Spider-Man!

As well as relaunching Amazing Spider-Man, Marvel Comics will also celebrate this milestone anniversary with a special issue honouring the comic that started it all, Amazing Fantasy #15. Arriving in August, Amazing Fantasy #1000 will be a giant-sized one-shot brought together by some of the industry's most acclaimed creators.

The collection of stories will explore the past and future of Amazing Spider-Man storytelling in tales that leave a profound impact on the Spider-Man mythos and showcase why Spidey is one of the most beloved heroes in comic book history.

Here’s just some of what Marvel says we can expect from this special issue:

  • Visionary writer Neil Gaiman’s grand return to the Marvel Universe
  • Emmy Award-winning creator behind Veep and Avenue 5 Armando Ianucci’s Marvel Comics debut
  • Dan Slott and superstar artist Jim Cheung team up to explore the enduring love between Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson in a story set in the far future
  • Acclaimed artist Michael Cho and novelist Anthony Falcone introduce a new Spider-Man villain
  • Ho Che Anderson crafts a horror-fueled Spidey adventure that cuts to Peter Parker’s core
  • Plus, stories by Rainbow Rowell, Jonathan Hickman, and many more!

"It’s Spider-Man’s 60th and we wanted to celebrate in style by inviting some of the greatest creative minds in the world to celebrate it," Editor Nick Lowe enthused in a press release today.

More details will be revealed soon, but you can see an Amazing Fantasy #1000 teaser below:

Decent lineup but not as many heavy hitters as you’d expect for this comic.

Looks like crap with a gimmick title on top to get people to drop $6 or $7, and that doesn't get into the four or five variant covers meant to prime the pump.

Not the best cover and the amazing fantasy part isnt needed, wasn't spiderman's debut its final issue?

@dracula - Yes. #15 was the last issue of the series so Stan thought it was a good chance to try out a teenaged hero.

@dracula - if they wanted to celebrate his 60th correctly and consistent with prior anniversary celebrations, they would have done it their Amazing Spider-man title. But, again, this is a sales gimmick.

This cover is effed up.
It looks as though Spidey is trying to balance his self on that tiny platform under his feet as opposed to gliding through the air.
It works much better if you would have lifted Spidey an inch above the platform not making contact.
Come on, who is the art director on this cover? (- or IS there NO art director at Marvel any more??)
Stan would have NEVER accepted this!

Hickman and Gaiman had me excited for this. So did Slott. however after reading the new Amazing Spider-man #1 by Romita Jr. and Zeb Wells I do not have much interest in this. My hope is that they let peter's character grow . Seems to be Marvel's perennial punching bag, stuck in that man child role for years.

He's not my favorite hero but I respect Spiderman.

I just don't get why he wants go out and save worthless people and not get paid.
In the end he gets no reward and becomes depressed. So what is the point of all the needless heroics?

I understand villians like Goblin that are close to him but burglars and theives etc should be left to the Punisher.
