Reptil doesn’t get talked about much, but this kid is cracked. His real name is Humberto Lopez, and his power is simple on the surface: he can turn into any dinosaur or prehistoric creature he wants. But “any dinosaur” means he has access to hundreds of animal forms, each with different strengths, defenses, and tactics. That’s not just a power – that’s an entire arsenal.

Need raw strength? He becomes a T-Rex and hits harder than LUKE CAGE. Need speed and agility? Velociraptor mode lets him outrun cars. Need defense? Ankylosaurus form gives him armor that tanks bullets and energy blasts. Need to fly? Pterodactyl. Need to swim? Mosasaurus. The kid basically carries a Jurassic Park in his DNA, and he switches forms mid-fight like most heroes switch weapons.

Reptil got his start in Avengers Academy, Marvel’s training ground for teenage heroes. That’s where we saw his real potential. He wasn’t just turning into dinosaurs for show – he was learning which form worked best against which villain. Fighting someone with energy powers? Go armored. Fighting someone fast? Go raptor. Fighting someone big? Go T-Rex. That tactical thinking at 16 years old is what separates him from “kid with powers” to “future Avenger”.

Avengers Arena + Beyond

If you want proof Reptil isn’t a joke, read Avengers Arena. Marvel threw a bunch of teen heroes into a death game, and Reptil survived. That series forced him to get brutal, creative, and fast with his transformations. He wasn’t just picking cool dinosaurs anymore – he was picking the right dinosaur to stay alive.

He’s also worked with the main Avengers team. When cosmic threats hit Earth, Reptil showed up. He’s fought alongside CAPTAIN AMERICA and IRON MAN despite being a teenager. Marvel doesn’t let kids on that field unless they trust them. And Reptil keeps proving he belongs there.

Why He’s Underrated

Two reasons: age and branding. Fans see “teen hero” and assume he’s weak. Fans see “dinosaur powers” and think it’s just for kids. Both are wrong. Reptil’s power set is one of the most versatile in Marvel. Beast has animal agility, Skaar has strength, but Reptil has both + flight + armor + swimming + stealth depending on the form.

Marvel needs to push him the way they pushed MS. MARVEL or IRONHEART. Give him a solo series, let him interact with the X-Men and Avengers, show him mastering extinct creatures we haven’t even seen yet. The potential is there.

Bottom line
Reptil is Marvel’s most underrated teen hero. He has the power set, the training, and the heart. He just needs the spotlight.

My take: 6.5/10
Kid’s got range. Marvel needs to push him before someone else does.
