Just a little backstory for those of you unfamiliar with the character:
Growing up on his parents' farm, Piotr Rasputin learned that he was a mutant and could transform his flesh into steel. He was content to use his powers to help his fellow farmers, but when a transformed Piotr rescued his sister Illyana from a runaway tractor, he was approached by Professor Charles Xavier. Dr. Xavier recruited Piotr to a new team of X-Men and named him 'Colossus', and together with the other new members, Colossus freed the original X-Men from captivity on the island of Krakoa. After the battle, Piotr remained with the X-Men in America. As a member of the X-Men, Colossus and his fellow mutants faced seemingly endless battles against the likes of the evil mutant Proteus, Doctor Doom and Belasco.
Later, Illyana joined her brother Colossus at the Xavier mansion, but she was kidnapped and trapped in the demon realm Limbo. She returned to Earth as the adolescent sorceress Magik and went home to Russia only to be captured by the Russian government and used as a weapon against the mutant Soul Skinner. Colossus saved her and brought her back to America, where she fell ill and was killed by the Legacy Virus.
Disillusioned by her death, Colossus abandoned Xavier's dream and joined Magneto's team, the Acolytes. Magento's base was later destroyed by Holocaust, and Colossus became a member of the British super-team Excalibur. When the team disbanded, he rejoined the X-Men whose resident scientist the Beast had created a cure for the Legacy Virus. Colossus offered up his own life to spread the antidote, and once the world was rid of the infection, he was revived with a new will for life and resumed his work with the X-Men.
