SPIDER MAN: HOMECOMING | WHAT IT CAN LEARN FROM THE PREVIOUS FILMS

Spider Man is one of the most popular characters out of all time- and he's been adapted for a lot of media- mostly cinema.  He's been in one (almost) beloved trilogy and two divisive set of films.
And under the warm arms of Marvel Studios, Spiderman is coming home with Spider Man: Homecoming, but will it be like the others? Will something new come out of it again? But what lessons does it have to learn, man?
Let's see, today, as i tell you 7 things the new spider-man movie should learn from the movies that came before it.
#1. Don't Rely On The Origin Story (...Again)

We all know the drill. Peter gets bit, he gets Spider powers, then his uncle dies, and the line 'with great power, comes great responsibility" is directly tied to that.
We have seen the origin two times on film, and the new Spider Man movie needs to stop it, and just present Peter the way he is,after the tragedy. A new, confident and reborn man.
#2. Let Peter Parker Be...Peter Parker:

Peter needs to be Peter. Peter is an awkward and geeky type of dude, and Toby Maguire showcased that perfectly on screen, outside of the ugly cry faces. While Andrew Garfield made him a Coldplay- loving hipster.  Yeah, that should not happen again.
He needs to be this awkward, nerdy lovable guy, who completely changes when he puts the mask. That's the good of the Spider Man character.
Just don't make him Justin Bieber's hipster cousin. Nothing against AG, but come on, dude. Atleast he was a good spidey. Take notes, Holland.
#3. Make A Great Theme

Spider Man's theme is still regarded as one of the, if not the best, superhero movie theme of all time, it's so damn iconic and beautiful to listen to.
Have a good composer, who can give Spidey a theme, that sticks out, is memorable, and gets the character right.
Get Junkie XL to do one. Junkie Xl's Spidey theme would be godlike. My ears are ready.
#4. Make Small Characters Matter

Aunt May is a hella of a mis-used character. She is not the helpless and useless old lady. The originals had her be a character who kinda was just there and the ASM movies had her an annoying lady, who wanted something, like eggs. Those goddamn eggs, man, where are they?
Make Aunt May or other small characters atleast matter, don't make them background extras with a few lines, and have Aunt May be Peter's inspiration for crime fighting, make her more than an egg-loving granny.
#5: Don't Overdo It

The ASM movies have had a reputation for overdoing it to death. I mean, what is up with ASM2? Four goddamn villains? And even more teased at the end? What the hell.
SM 3 and ASM2 are the movies, notorious for that mistake.
Homecoming should have a sideline villain, for the beggining, and then the main villain for the rest of the film, don't screw that up.
#6: Showcase Spider Man And His True Personality

Spider Man is one of the most beloved characters of all time, in comics, fiction, whatever. He's a fun guy, who wants to help, while dealing with high school, that's why so many people connected to that character, just showcase that in live action, and we're cool. Spider Man needs to be done like that on the big screen. With Marvel Studios running things, we may just get the Spiderman we always wanted.

#7. Use Both Sides Of The Character

There is this thing, that two the actors that have played Spidey in the big screen, have played both sides of the character, both Spider-man and Peter, but only succeed in one. Like Toby is a good Peter, but not a good Spider Man (my opinion) and how Andrew was a bad Peter, but an amazing Spidey.
Let's hope Tom Holland plays both sides of the character, just fantastic. Let's hope.

END.

One of the many things that sounds promising from what I'm hearing from civil war is that Holland gives a really good performance. I've also heard he was good some other movies like the impossible. Which could already give this reboot a big advantage over the last two, since frankly both Toby Maquire and Andrew Garfield are meh actors at best.

Don't worry one bit, Tom Holland by far is the definitive Spider-Man, they nailed the character, both Peter and Spider-Man.

@ThedamnBatman - They REALLY did. By far the BEST Peter Parker AND BEST Spider-Man we've gotten to date and it's not even close.

Only thing I'm, slightly, worried about; how he's going to do in a solo movie. Part of me feels like Holland was so absolutely perfect in both aspects because in Civil War he's a side character so he was allowed to just have fun with it, which is Classic Spidey. It's when you start adding in emotional drama and depth that the last 2 portrayals struggled with.

Peter Parker SHOULD be a fairly simple character to get right, but both Macguire and Garfield failed. IMO. The Optimist in me blames it on the writers. And that's probably 100% true. Especially considering what the Russo Brothers were able to do with Peter in the short amount of time that we see him in Civil War.

I was excited, like almost everyone, when Spider-Man: Homecoming was announced, but after seeing Tom Holland as both Peter and Spidey I think I might be more excited for this movie than any other MCU film announced aside from Infinity War.

@ThedamnBatman - That last paragraph I wrote, I DID NOT expect AT ALL. I read all the reviews about how great Tom Holland does as Spidey and Parker, but holy shit you can't REALLY know how true that is until you see it.

@urnotaslave23 - Also, Black Panther is gonna be [frick]ing great too. I was on the fence about that movie because I had no idea what to expect, but Bosemans last scene with Zemo.... The Russos really [frick]ing KNOW these characters.

I want Aunt May to be treated like Nolan treated Alfed in his films.

And yeah we need a nerdy Pete, not this too cool for school hipster.

@MileHighRonin - Oh yes!!! Give Aunt May this line please:

“...some men aren't looking for anything logical, Peter. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the eggs burned.”

The Russo Brothers should be producing this at least.

You lost me at #2. If one more person calls Andrew Garfield a hipster I'm gonna shoot someone. In what way is he a hipster? He's sue or awkward and nerdy. Nerdy doesn't mean glasses and no friends anymore. And if you didn't notice Peter didn't have one friend in the entire series. Toby Maguire was NOTHING like Peter or Spider-Man. Andrew Garfield was a perfect Spider-Man trapped in mediocre/bad movies. If you expect more Maguire and less Garfield in this you're in for a rude awakening, because I know WAY more people outside of the comic book community that love Andrew Garfield and either dislike or aren't even aware of Toby Maguire.

Even beyond that he's nothing like the stereotypical hipster. Just something someone said one day that hive minded fanboys latched on to because hey modernized their precious clumsy, glasses wearing, bow tie sporting, geek. That doesn't reflect high school anymore. Trust me I'd know over most of you.

Junkie XL would be okay for Spidey. But I want Henry Jackman, I don't care that he did Captain America, his kick ass themes fit Spider-Man so well. God I hope he gives Spidey a kick ass theme in Civil War.

@Jeremius Why would you want JunkieXL to have anything to do with anymore CBMs? Maybe I've missed something special that they've done? I'm a HUGE music buff, but admittedly, I'm more inclined to lyrics so I could be way off and missing something vital about their Scores that other people seem to gravitate towards, but I've honestly only REALLY actually noticed a couple of songs in movies and I noticed them because they completely took me out of the movies.

I.E. That horrific Itsy Bitsy Spider Dubstep from TASMII, and this:

I really, really, wanted to like BvS and I gave it all the optimism I could muster, but when the Doomsday fight started, and that JunkieXL song started playing, with that completely out of place guitar riff, I just lost it. I still think it's a pretty decent movie, but I just can't get past how that track, at that particular time, COMPLETELY took me out of the movie. I really couldn't get back into it after that.

I felt like I was trying so hard to keep up with all the random plotlines thrown at me, to stay in the Universe the movie was creating, and then that happened, at such a pivotal moment....

Then I come to this site and see that people are praising the Score and I feel like, either I'm dealing with people that are reaching as far as they can to make the movie seem better than it is, or I missed something extremely dramatic about that song being played at that moment in the movie?
