SPOILERS: 6 Major MARVEL LEGACY #1 Reveals And Twists You Need To Know
Marvel Legacy #1 is now on sale so we take an in-depth look at the special one-shot's biggest reveals, surprises, and shock returns as the Marvel Universe is finally put back on the right track...
Marvel Legacy #1 is finally on sale but does it live up to expectations? Well, the comic book certainly delivers on big surprises and shocking twists as Marvel starts laying the groundwork for a return to a far more familiar Marvel Universe. Along the way, the status quos of many heroes and villains are changed and the stage is set for storylines which should play out in this world for years to come.
What you'll find here are the six biggest reveals from the comic and while there may only be six slides to go through, we've included several big pieces of news in each along with some of the best panels featuring Marvel Legacy's best moments! It goes without saying that MAJOR SPOILERS follow from here but if you're anxious to learn what you should expect from the title, you'll want to keep reading!
6. A Fantastic Narrator
Early on in Marvel Legacy, we catch up with The Thing and Johnny Storm as they reminisce about the Fantastic Four. Both heroes have been doing their own thing since Secret Wars but that's now going to change as they team up for a new ongoing series which will build towards the return of Reed Richards and Susan Storm. Ben shoots a "4" shaped flare into the sky to signal that they intend on reforming the team and things are finally looking up for Fantastic Four fans!
Things take an even more exciting turn early on, though, as this comic features two more major returns. At the very end of the issue, we learn that Valeria Richards has been the one narrating the action and she's in outer space with her brother Franklin on a mission for their father as they continue to explore the universe together. Valeria, however, wants to return home and there's surprisingly no word on what's actually become of Reed and Sue. Are they living in the cosmos or something more?
5. A New Founding Avenger
One of the strangest moments in Marvel Legacy comes when Jarvis notices something odd about the statue outside of Avengers Mansion which features the very first roster of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. For reasons which are still unclear, a newly created character called Voyager has been added to their ranks and that's a mystery which is going to be addressed in the main Avengers title (which goes weekly in 2018).
It's an odd decision but one which should have major ramifications for the team moving forward. Speaking of which, the comic also reveals that there's a Wakandan intergalactic empire which it seems will cause T'Challa a major headache as they return to Earth and look to take his nation back as their own. Giving the hero an alien origin of sorts is definitely interesting and we're now left to wonder if this is being done because the upcoming Marvel Studios movie is heading in the same direction.
4. The End Of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Just like in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it appears as if S.H.I.E.L.D.'s run has reached its end in this comic book world. The spy organisation has been disbanded following the events of Secret Empire and that leaves the status of characters like Nick Fury and Maria Hill very much up in the air. Sam Wilson's tenure as Captain America is also confirmed as being at an end here as he goes on one last adventure with the Jane Foster version of Thor (who is still his girlfriend) and Riri Williams.
S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't alone in suffering for HydraCap's sins as Deadpool is now wanted for his role in helping Steve Rogers try and make his vision a reality. Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk is leading the polls as the hot favourite to become New Yor City's mayor and Norman Osborn is still trying to track down some mystical abilities in a bid to aid his mission to make Spider-Man pay for taking his Goblin powers from him.
3. Tony Stark Is M.I.A.
Iron Man has been comatose since the events of Civil War II but an A.I. version of his consciousness has since taken his place. In Marvel Legacy, Tony Stark's body has vanished altogether much to the surprise of Mary Jane Watson and that's all to set up "The Search For Tony Stark" in Invincible Iron Man #593, a tale which is expected to finally bring the original Iron Man back...even if it means Riri Williams and Doctor Doom will be forced to give up the mantle!
However, this isn't the only classic Avenger we get an update on here. The Odinson is still deemed Unworthy as he drowns his sorrows in Asgardia but one of the realm's psychics decides to commit suicide upon learning that Mangog is coming! Captain America, meanwhile, is equally depressed as he sets off on a road trip across America with his trusty shield in hand as he looks to reconnect with the country which was betrayed by HydraCap.
2. Another Infinity War?
Is another Infinity War brewing in the Marvel Universe? It certainly seems that way as we see Loki encouraging a group of Frost Giants to go and retrieve an Infinity Stone for him. They succeed in their mission but are ultimately taken out by a returning hero (who we'll get to in our next slide). So, what does this mean for this world from here? Time will tell but Gamora and the Guardians are also keeping track of the Stones and when Loki's plan fails, he heads to that Celestial to help it find whoever the final host may be.
Talking of all things cosmic, we learn that the very first team of Avengers - made up of heroes like Odin, Phoenix, and earlier iterations of Ghost Rider, Starbrand, and more - took down a Celestial who is very much alive and currently buried deep beneath the Earth. Upon awakening, the ancient alien entity talks about summoning the final host and cleansing the Earth; could that be a reference to the planned return of the original Jean Grey as the Phoenix?
1. The Real Wolverine Is Back
That's right, Wolverine is finally back among the living! He's been "dead" for quite a few years now, trapped in an Adamantium shell which seemingly suffocated him when he no longer had a healing factor. Fans have suspected for a while that it could kick back in and he'd escape and that's pretty much confirmed here when we learn he's back among the living (and hopefully preparing to take the place of Old Man Logan).
What we don't learn is who broke Wolverine out; the young Jean Grey discovers what was left of his tomb but it seems it's been torn open from the outside in. Logan, meanwhile, seems to have a very interesting mission as he retrieves one of the Infinity Stones for unknown purposes. Who could he be working for? The original Jean Grey seems like a very likely possibility but it seems as if this is one plot thread Marvel will take their time unspooling for us.
