SPOILERS: Here's Who Died In The Pages Of Today's CIVIL WAR II #1 From Marvel

We've known for months that Marvel's Civil War II would kick off with a couple of high profile casualties, but which Avengers have bitten the dust? Well, if you thought that the HydraCap backlash was bad...

It was strongly hinted at in this year's Free Comic Book Day special from Marvel, but Civil War II #1 from Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez did indeed feature War Machine and She-Hulk (two characters Marvel has tried and failed on multiple occasions to make work in their own titles) biting the dust at the hands of the Mad Titan, Thanos. Asked if Rhodey really is dead and gone, Marvel Executive Editor Tom Brevoort told Newsarama: "I don’t want to be too coy about this. As far as the story is concerned, Rhodey is dead. You’ve given me the opportunity to play the game where I tease that he may still be out there, but that’s not what this moment is about. This moment is legitimately about Rhodey being down. So not outright showing that is, as you said, good taste. I could play games with you, but I’m actually going to give you the flat out honest answer, which is, he’s done. As far as this story is concerned. In the future, anything is possible, but Thanos did take him out."

As for She-Hulk, it at least sounds as if there's a chance we're going to see her pull through in the second issue despite her flatlining at the end of the issue. "This one I think I can play coy on. There’s more to come in Civil War II #2. Totally Awesome Hulk #7 focuses almost entirely on Bruce Banner, and where he’s been, and what he’s doing. That’s a tie-in issue, and that’s not a coincidence. It’s more than likely that we’ll see Bruce before the event is over." What do you guys think of these latest developments? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts on this in the usual place.

@nonserviam - Same.

Tired of comic book deaths since no one really stays dead in comic books.

They're the real Walking Dead. Basically 1/8th of all the superheroes are zombies, they all come back to life.

War Machine will be alive and well in a few years.

@Jordanstine - Exactly.

@Jordanstine - Even if Rodney bites the big one anyone can just don The suit and become war machine. Remember Tony Stark was the original war machine.

@SpideyQuad - and thats exactly [frick]ing why they need to stop changing all the characters. Now anyone can just be spider man hulk thor captain america ms marvel ect. A death can be changed but it still has an impact and pushes the story forward as the characters dont know whoever died will be back. And i see you agree that deaths dont matter (and i like that walking dead analogy lol) which is correct to a degree but they dont have to be brought back even though they do come back. However changing out the person under the mask has a permanent negative effect as now just anyone can be that person and that person is no longer special and unique for who they are what they do and their powers and aliases so then when they're killed it matters even less because then "bob smith from ohio" can be thor the god of thunder. Im all for diversity but i want new characters with new powers and their own identities instead of ruining everything great and special about everyone else so that they can make black and mexican readers and audiences become interested in spiderman and make even more money off them plus the fans who have loved spider man. I agree killing characters in comics besides the walking dead for the most part doesnt matter because theyl be better than ever in a couple years but u dont HAVE to look at it like that you could be like well hes dead now here in this moment and read the consequences results and affects on other characters affected by that death. Not saying thats how u shuld look at it i agree with you but i look at it differently so i could take that death seriously and feel like these beloved characters are in real danger.

Marvel Comics died when Disney bought them, all the characters are dead to me.
The72nd
The72nd - 6/1/2016, 11:43 AM
@venkman9993592 - that doesn't make any sense. It's still the same company, they're just owned by Disney.

Vuec97 - 6/1/2016, 11:46 AM
@venkman9993592 - Kind of like when Bioware was bought by EA. Disney has become EA!
LEOSTRATOR
LEOSTRATOR - 6/1/2016, 11:50 AM
@venkman9993592 - No one bought their books before Disney acquired them and they where on the verge of shutting down for good. Maybe you should be grateful to Disney for having Marvel Comics to complain about. :p
venkman83
venkman83 - 6/1/2016, 11:55 AM
@LEOSTRATOR - Nah, I'm not grateful, at least not for all the changes. X-Men titles are neglected, Spidey is black, white Spidey is some CEO type of scientist, Hulk is Asian, Thor is a woman, most mutants are gone, no Fantastic 4, and Capt. America has been Hydra the whole time? @The72nd A lot has changed for the worse starting a year or two after Disney acquired them.
LEOSTRATOR
LEOSTRATOR - 6/1/2016, 12:06 PM
@venkman9993592 - Or we can have nothing or even worse DC could of acquired Marvels top characters. That would really be horrible, think of Milestone and Wildstorm.
venkman83
venkman83 - 6/1/2016, 12:20 PM
@LEOSTRATOR - Besides for movies, I do have nothing. I read many titles from the 1960's and up, now that continuity is gone. At least I still have the movies.

@venkman9993592 - Disney has nothing to do with the content of the comics. Maybe you could blame Axel Alonso?
If you were a real fan though, you would know that all of these changes are temporary. They were made just for the sake of making interesting stories and shaking up the status quo after 50 years of the same. Some of them didnt work, and some of them did. The New Thor and Ms Marvel are awesome except for their 'codenames' IMO. A LOT of people love Miles Morales, Parker Industries seems like a fun and natural evolution to me (Even though the story is hinting that it wont last). And Steve is obviously a clone/mind-controlled/etc.

LEOSTRATOR - 6/1/2016, 12:25 PM
@venkman9993592 - Marvel still have some good books just as DC had some good New52 books. It's not the end of the world, we all know everything will go back to the way things were, as soon as sales drop. Just look at Rebirth.
BlackConvoy
BlackConvoy - 6/1/2016, 12:34 PM
@venkman9993592 - And none of the changes in the books are due to Disney buying Marvel.
lawndart
lawndart - 6/1/2016, 12:53 PM
@venkman9993592 - Right? I have stopped buying them for years now after the AvX run. Continuity used to be a strong point for Marvel. Not now. Good friggin luck trying to keep track at this point and I don't even bother. I have books from the 60s-90s to fall back on.

@venkman9993592 - Also Animation. God their animated series were disgusting. Its not even meant for 6 years old, more like for 3 years old.

Marvel Live action = Godlike
Marvel comic/animation = Garbage

JonF - 6/1/2016, 1:18 PM
@venkman9993592 - Actually, Marvel died when the Image founders left and they went bankrupt! They've been living off of the fumes of their past ever since!
venkman83
venkman83 - 6/1/2016, 1:47 PM
@BruceWillis - Disney has everything to do with the comics. Just look at how they don't own the movie rights to X-Men or Fantastic 4. Suddenly the best selling X-Men comics are not given engaging stories, most mutants die, they were instructed not to make new characters, and the title is just really being starved to death. Then they out right disband and cancel all Fantastic 4 titles. Everything revolves around the Avengers now because that's what Disney can sell.
