Thanks to Luma Pictures we now have an awesome new VFX breakdown that showcases how all of the creative artists made Thanos’ lively appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy. Check out the video below!

Luma Pictures VFX supervisor Vincent Cirelli explained to all how the concept designer did his part and how they all carefully worked on Thanos to make him awesome for all the moviegoers to see. “Loic Zimmermann our concept designer took the most prevalent features of Josh that we thought would stand out the most and put them into who the character is underneath,” He then elaborated and described in depth on what they did to make Thanos come to life in the film. “He began blending those elements. We’ve taken Josh’s eyes, some of his cheek, how his muscles move when he talks and blended that into his caricature.” He then added, “Thanos has this incredibly large jaw and deep grooves that run throughout his face which needed to be carefully planned out with the movement of his face.”

Awesome process right? What do you think about Loic Zimmermann’s work and how they made the Mad Titan look very realistic? Sound off below in the comment section with your thoughts!

Off topic: Really regretting eating those hot cheetos the other day. On topic: This is pretty cool, I like watching these VFX breakdowns.

Preferred the live action version to be honest. Thanos has never really been abnormally huge, he's always been bulky as [frick], but never Hulk-sized. Well, maybe in recent years they've bigged him up a bit, but classic Thanos, the look I've always preferred is just a bulky dude and the live action version with Daimion Poitier looked perfect to me.

Thanos was underwhelming. He didn't feel intimidating at all in GotG and them altering Brolin's voice just means that anybody else could've done the voice over. They needed someone who's voice was immensely powerful and terrifying.

Ever since appearing in that Avengers post credit scene, Thanos hasn't accomplished sh!t, save sending others to do his bidding and yelling at them when they inevitably failed. I mean wtf has he been doing during that time ? Sit around and bust smelly Eternal farts ? 'Cause something had to have been preventing him from looking for the gems himself, right ? I understand sending minions to retrieve some of them, but ALL OF THEM ?
Thanos is a lazy ass m*****f***er.
Glad he finally decided to get off his ass there at the end of AoU.

@Kr08

I actually think Brolin's voice wasn't altered enough.
And Thanos' head is a little too skinny for my taste. But we still haven't seen him up and about, full size, and next to a normal human being. When that happens, we might finally realize what a beast this version really is.

I wish they would have kept his Avengers look. I hate his current look. And yes, so far, Thanos has looked incompetent by losing two infinity stones to Loki and Ronan. Let's not forget that he originally lost his gauntlet to the Asgardians, who get trumped by Malekith and his Doctor Who minions.

True, but I've always seen Thanos as a big guy, but they do change his size a lot, and the sizes of other characters. Your right though, it's almost like they made Hulk smaller In Infinity Gauntlet, and Gamora looks like she could be just as tall if not taller than Thanos

i liked his look in the concept art where he had orangeish eyes he looked a lot more alien, but they gave him blue human eyes in the film which dont look right.

I really liked the Thanos vfx in GOTG it was just the dialogue and his actions which were a let down. The "apparently" line seems strangely out of place and it implies that Thanos is a little incompetent and unsure of his minions' actions, not to mention not punishing Ronan immediately with his open language and betrayal.

Plus all the failures and reliance on Loki and Ronan as well as seemingly sitting on his chair for years waiting for people to bring him the stones makes him out to be a b00b.

Ways to fix Thanos:

1) Give him white eyes, not blue human eyes
2) Only closed-lip grins

They should have gone with Keith David as the voice of Thanos, altering his voice just a little bit.

@Demiurge No, not up against the humans, when he is actually standing in front of Hulk. That is when we'll see the power in Thanos. All we have to do is wait and see who blinks first.

@Kr08 I've been saying that for forever! That would've been fantastic and menacing at the same time.

totally agree, loved how he looked in Avengers but have been underwhelmed since.....it bothers me that he's the big Bad for the end of Phase 3 and I'm gonna be distracted the whole time with how sub-par he looks.

Thanos has been laughably incompetent so far. This is the villain every hero in the MCU should fear? Really?

Thanos looked cool in the first Avengers but the revised look in GOTG is just as good.
It's better actually since he's more realized & Brolin's acting & voice work is solid.
He's also not an inept bad guy..it's building up to a major conflict. There would be no cool finale if he got all the stones & the gauntlet quickly & easily. So shut up you whiney hater punks.
Prepare for Thanos to destroy some fools...eventually.

I wasn't too big a fan of the Thanos redesign, and I'm not much of a fan now.

All this talk of him being an inept villain is ridiculous, though.

@sameoldthing Amen brother, thank you! I'm one of the mad titan's most loyal fans, having read everything he's been a part of, and the look is fine.

Having Brolin bulk up would be beyond stupid, because Thanos has unattainable proportions and needs to invoke fear when he stands in front of people. He's going to be massive in scale like he's depicted in the DnA/Hickman series and that's how he should be.

His dialogue in GOTG was fine and very much in tune with the philosophy of the character, but yes the word "apparently" was out of place just like his dialogue after AOU.

That said people obviously don't understand the character if they expect him to be literal and impatient. That's not Thanos, he only ever fights people if they become an annoyance to him, if it's just for fun, or for scientific purposes.
