Titan Comics packed September with comics that are game adaptations, a 1970s robot, a 1992 Tank Girl reprint, and two Conan books that feed a bigger event. Some of it is already on the rack as well. The rest lands next week and the week after.
On sale now: Grendizer and Conan meet Dragonero
UFO Robot Grendizer #2 (of 4) hit September 2. $3.99, 32 color pages. Xavier Dorison writes. Denis Bajram, Brice Cossu, Alexis Sentenac, and Yoann Guillo draw. This is the English-language sequel to Go Nagai’s Grendizer, the Mazinger cousin that sent Duke Fleed and the flying saucer robot against Vega. Issue 1 recapped the old war as memory, then brought in the Ruin Division and the Hydragon. Issue 2 keeps Fleed in hiding while Grendizer is the only machine left that can stop the new invasion. If you wanted Mazinger energy in a modern French comics package, this is the one Titan is selling at the cheap end of the week.
Same day: Conan and Dragonero #5 (of 7). $4.99, 32 pages. Luca Enoch and Stefano Vietti write. Lorenzo Nuti draws. Conan of Cimmeria gets yanked into Erondár, the Dragonero world, and has to stand with the dragon slayer against something that wants both settings. Five issues in, the pitch is still steel, sorcery, and two stubborn fighters who do not trust each other. Two issues left after this. Check out the trailer for it below:
September 9: Vampire Survivors #1 and Tank Girl
Vampire Survivors #1 (of 4) is the week’s game comic. $4.99, 32 pages. David Hazan (Nottingham) writes. Jimmy Kucaj draws. Joao Canola colors. poncle’s 2022 roguelite barely told a story on screen. You stood still, garlic and crosses stacked, and the horde melted. Titan is building the lore the game shrugged at. Check out the trailer for it below:
The Belpaese siblings get sent to clear monsters. Imelda Belpaese finds The Trickster, an old evil only she can see. It follows her and wrecks rooms while the Ladonna family leans on the family and the siblings fight each other. Later issues promise an endless library, a ruined dairy plant, and a mad forest. Hazan said he spent hours looking up ridiculous Italian lines for the survivors. A collected edition is dated March 2027. Covers include Kucaj, David Hartman, and Frederico Sabbatini.
Same Wednesday: Tank Girl “Blue Helmet” Summer Special. One-shot, $4.99, 24 color pages. Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett. This is the Deadline Magazine two-parter from April and May 1992, almost 35 years later in a single pamphlet. Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, and The Hairy Banana Bunch are in it. No new story. If you wanted that specific Hewlett-Martin stretch without digging through old Deadline stacks, Titan put it on a summer special board.
September 16: Savage Sword of Conan #16
The Savage Sword of Conan #16 comes at $6.99 and 64 pages. Jim Zub writes all three stories. Art is Nicola Scott, Chris Campana, and Sean Izaakse. Covers and pin-ups include Joe Jusko and Nick Percival.
Titan Comics and Heroic Signatures are using #16 as the on-ramp for Conan the Barbarian: Tides of the Tyrant-King, the mini series that starts September 23. The three shorts set pieces for that event:
"Massacred Memories," Scott on art, corrupted memories and creeping madness
"Ghosts of Wahpeton," Campana on art, a return to Robert E. Howard’s weird-western Steve Corcoran after "Vultures of Whapeton"
"The Warrior Within," Izaakse on art, the shadowed past of mini-series fixture Zuleika
Tides of the Tyrant-King pairs Conan with Stephen Costigan across two eras against the same seeping evil. Zub’s monthly Conan the Barbarian keeps rolling at the same time. Issue 35 is solicited for September 30.
