CONSTANTINE 2: Warner Bros. Confirms That Keanu Reeves-Led Sequel Is Still Moving Forward

Despite a rumor doing the rounds that Warner Bros. Discovery had pulled the plug on its planned Constantine sequel, the studio has now confirmed that the movie is still blazing ahead...

Despite rumors to the contrary, it seems Constantine 2 is very much alive at Warner Bros. Discovery.

Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that the sequel has not been scrapped, with Keanu Reeves still set to reprise the role of the chain-smoking occultist. Director Francis Lawrence will also return to helm the film.

DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran unveiled the first "chapter" of their new DCU slate last week, and Constantine 2 was not mentioned - although Gunn did reveal that more projects will be announced soon.

We're not sure if the sequel will be part of the DCU or an "Elseworlds" project like Todd Phillips' Joker movies or Matt Reeves' The Batman, but John Constantine is closely linked to Swamp Thing in the comics, so there's some speculation that the character could be reintroduced as the main DCU's JC.

The first Constantine received mixed reviews when it was released back in 2005, but despite an Americanized interpretation of the Scouse magic-wielder and a few more liberties with the source material, fans reacted well to Reeves' take on the anti-hero, and the movie has gained a strong following over the years.

How do you guys feel about Reeves returning as John Constantine? Would you prefer if the sequel remained in its own universe, or was folded into the DCU? Be sure to drop us a comment down below.

Is there a reason we don’t have an edit button anymore?

Thanks for all that you do.

@HulkisHoly - There's an issue where it would make the edited comment change ownership and appear as a different user... a really odd bug, and one that I haven't found the solution to yet 😵

I think this could work. I want to see Constantine, Zatanna, & Swamp Thing getting involved with some of the mainstream heroes in the movies, TV, etc.

And what does "Scouse" mean?

@DocSpock - Considering Chapter 1 is literally called Gods and Monsters and considering again that Gunn confirmed that the projects already announced were only one part of Chapter 1, there's for sure a possibility for that JLD setup with Zatanna, Constantine, Deadman, Detective Chimp, and all those guys.

I am worried they can't draw enough box office from JLD, but I hope I'm wrong. I have always loved those characters over the decades.

I was 15 when the first Swamp Thing issue came out. It was instantly my favorite. I was so bummed when it got cancelled.

I honestly don't know what to believe anymore lol.

Pretty interested to see what they do with Keanu's take on the character but I hope the DCU introduce their own, more comic accurate Constantine in Swamp Thing.

@FilmGuy7878 - I just believe what actually happens. Until then, it's not a reality (or something like that; I don't know what I'm saying). 🤪

This is what happens when you equate "scooper" with "a reliable source". Rumors are not news. Will a lesson be learned here? Probably not.

@EgoEgor - Apparently it depends on what the rumor is about. If it's something that looks bad for a company people don't like, they'll go ahead and assume it's true
