Hall H was buzzing earlier today, as Warner Bros. showcased their Comic-Con panel with Peter Jackson and The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit franchises. David Letterman's The Late Show successor, Stephen Colbert, hosted the panel and special appearances were made by a large number of The Hobbit cast: stars Andy Serkis, Lee Pace, Evangeline Lilly, Benedict Cumberbatch, Orlando Bloom, Cate Blanchet and Elijah Wood. Below, is a description of the first trailer for The Hobbit The Battle of Five Armies.
Then, finally, The Hobbit The Battle of Five Armies trailer played. It was a teaser. Bilbo says “I’ll remember everything that happened. Those who survived, those who didn’t.” There’s footage of Smaug blowing fire on Laketown, a decimated city, soldeirs and huge armies walking. Then, finally, Billy Boyd’s song from Return of the King hits, setting a somber, down tone. It promises the defining chapter of the Middle Earth trilogy as we see footage of a chase scene on ice. Flashes of Sauron. Then Bard asks Thorin, “Will you have peace or war?” He responds “I will have war!” A few more epic shots before everything gets quiet. Thorin “Will you follow me one last time?” -

From Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson comes “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” the third in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.

Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain.

As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

“One day, I’ll remember what happened - the good, the bad, those who survived, and those who did not.”

Yep, take my money...again.

No one will care about a craft of film-making in this site because everyone here has their heads full with bullshit movies like Avengers 2 and Batman V Superman.

@clogan These Hobbit films suck though, bloated as [frick]; it tarnishes the LotR films just by association.

And this is coming from a big film guy who follows all film news in the industry, whether its studio, arthouse, foreign or indie.

I loved Desolation of Smaug way more than the 1st, I felt so bummed though when it ended because it was just getting good!

@clogan and these Hobbit films are increasingly being less focused on the titular character, the hobbit that is Bilbo lol

So the picture's theme is "Can you spot the Hobbit in the promo art for the movie called 'The Hobbit'"? (-_-)'

After the last movie I keep waiting for something to get me interested again in the adaptation of one of my favourite books, and I'm waiting still.

@Kyos, Bilbo's not the main character anymore, and they're not even trying to pretend otherwise. I can't even remember another adaptation where they utterly shoved aside the main protagonist at every opportunity in favor of every other supporting character possible. These aren't just bad adaptations of the source material, they're bad movies on a purely filmmaking level. It's truly amazing.

hmmmmmm..........i wonder if they'll split this 3rd movie into two movies?

I know, SauronsBANE. I'm actually sure I'd like the movies better if I wasn't as close to the book as I am, but I'm not sure at all if I'd like them MUCH better. I'd still be watching as a fan of the LotR trilogy, and the differences in quality from one trilogy to the other would still be huge.

The hobbit films are awesome. I don't understand why they get so much hate. I remember I went to see the lord of the rings movies and I fell asleep in the theater. That didn't happen when I watched the hobbit movies.
