It feels like director Matt Reeves has been at
The Batman for decades. Ever since
Justice League came and went, questions surfaced on when we would ever see Ben Affleck's Batman again. Problem is, everything has been up in the air at this point. There isn't an official release date for
The Batman yet, and we don't even know if Ben Affleck is coming back to put on the cowl. Regardless, Matt Reeves is definitely on board and hard at work. The best part is that some progress seems to have been made.
Well, that's better than nothing. Reeves
previously stated that he wants to start shooting sometime in the middle of 2019.
“I’ve talked about making it a very point of view noir-driven definitive Batman story in which he is investigating a particular case and that takes us out into the world of Gotham,” Reeves added. “I went on a deep dive again revisiting all my favorite comics. Those all inform by osmosis. There’s no continuation of the Nolan films. It’s very much trying to find a way to do this as something that for me is going to be definitively Batman and new and cool.”
Reeves is known for directing highly praised movies such as the new
Planet of the Apes films, as well as the original
Cloverfield. There should be no doubt he's the right man for the job, but you have to wonder if
The Batman will ever truly get off the ground. Time will tell, but it's good to know at least it's not completely dead. If everything goes smoothly,
The Batman could see the light of day around late 2020 or early 2021.
