Independence Day; Will Smith has had no shortage of blockbusters in his Hollywood career. But it's Smith's role as the Genie in Guy Ritchie's
Aladdin, a remake of Disney's animated classic, that has officially become his most successful film in terms of box office performance.
According to
Box Office Mojo,
Aladdin now sits at $821 million worldwide, which officially makes it the highest-grossing movie of Will Smith's career.
Independence Day was his previous highest-grossing film with $817 at the global box office.
Interestingly, both films have performed similarly in terms of domestic and foreign split.
Aladdin has grossed $296.5M domestically and $524.7M internationally, while Independence Day brought in $306.1M domestically and $511.2M internationally.
Smith celebrated the new record with a special thank you message to fans on Instagram.
This is a post that I'm just humbled and honored to make right now. Today, Aladdin just passed Independence Day as the highest grossing film of my entire career. To be in this game as long as I've been in this game, and to have my biggest movie at this point in my career, I just want to say thank you.
