As the New Year rolled in 2020 kicked off while many people were at home for the holiday, and thanks to modern technology and decent programming, there was plenty of streaming happening this winter. However, it wasn't very long before subscribers to the service began to notice that there were some rather obvious omissions to the lineup that the streaming service had initially offered when it released.
January saw the removal of beloved movies such as
Home Alone, Home Alone 2, Dr. Dolittle, Pirates of the Caribbean: on Stranger Tides, The Sandlot, as they seemed to have simply disappeared, as if Thanos were getting his revenge on Disney after all.
It appears that movies can leave Disney+ as often as their rights change hands and their contracts dictate so, however, the films in Disney's Signature Collection that will remain centerpieces of the streaming service going forward no matter what. For reference, those films include the likes of
The Lion King, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Pinnochio, The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid, and
Bambi.
Additionally, there are also reports from Bloomberg that
Black Panther will return to Netflix in 2026 and will also be leaving Disney+, along with other titles. December saw
Shaggy Dog and
Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties get the ax as well, but for all the movies that have been removed, the service has been adding plenty in their places - plus
WandaVision (and in turn likely all the Marvel Disney+ series) are moving up at least six months so users should have plenty of content to keep them content.
