GOTHAM BAY
Crowds of people are cheering, looking up at the fireworks being launched off the bridge.
ABOVE GOTHAM BAY
Firefly is watching the fireworks, waiting for Fries to show up.
THE BATCAVE
Batman is loading the cure into a container connected to a needle.
FRIES' LAB
Fries is getting into his suit.
THE GCPD BUILDING
Gordon is sitting in a holding cell, Bullok checking his watch, and going to the Gotham Bay Bridge.
ABOVE GOTHAM BAY
Firefly flies down to the bridge, ramming into one of the men operating the fireworks. He hit another, and put another in a chokehold. He threw the man off the bridge, a terrible CRACK! as he hit the water, and tripped another. He hit the first one again, and pushed him off, another CRACK! The same happens to the others.
A STREET
Fries is walking towards the bridge, and Lynns. Cars swerve out of the way, and people hide in allies.
A STREET
The Batmobile is going, down the road, dodging cars.
GOTHAM BAY
Bullok has pulled up with two other cops, and makes his way to the bridge.
Fries has just arrived at the bay.
The Batmobile pulled up, Batman and Robin coming out.
They all notice each other. Bullok and the cops pull guns out on Batman, with Fries running to the bridge. He gets there, Batman and Robin at gunpoint. Batman goes towards Bullok.
Bullok: "Stop. Right. There. I'll pull this trigger."
The crowd notices what's going on, and scatters, each person returning to their cars.
Batman: "You know I'm not the bad guy."
He takes a step closer.
Bullok: "Doesn't mean you didn't break the law."
Batman: "Actually, I didn't. Ask Robin."
Robin: "It was Catwoman. I swear to God. I swear to you."
He takes a step closer. One of the cops starts to pull, but Bullok has them go to the bridge.
Bullok: "And why should I believe you?"
Batman: "We have another witness. Two. Maroni, and one of his men."
He took a step closer.
Bullok: "Then that means-"
Batman: "It does. Gordon is innocent. We can settle this now, with you killing an innocent man, or in a room."
He took a step closer, and grabbed Bullok's gun. He threw it in the ocean, and grappled away, along with Robin.
Bullok: "Damn you! Damn you! God damn it!"
He kicked a mound of sand, and ran to the bridge. He never made it on.
THE GOTHAM BAY BRIDGE
Fries and Lynns are at a standoff. Each has a weapon in hand. Both facing each other. Lynns shoots. Not at Fries, but at the ground. Fries looks down at the fireworks about to go off on him.
Bullok was stopped by a huge wall of ice. It covered the entrance to the bridge. He tried to break through, but only caused his hand some pain. He looked up, and saw Batman on top of a suspension cable.
Bullok: "Damn you!!!"
Batman saw the fireworks be lit. He threw a batarang, and signaled for Robin to do the same. Both hit the fireworks, and the ensuing blast hit them all. Fries was knocked into his wall of ice. Firefly was blasted upwards, thanks to his jetpack, and Batman was knocked off the cable, same with Robin. They grappled back onto the cord, and looked down at the charred area of concrete.
Robin: "I honestly thought this would be easier."
Fries had broken through the wall of ice, and almost into Bullok. He moved out of the way just in time, and looked down at Fries. He ran onto the bridge.
Firefly was coming back down, laughing. He landed on the bridge, and saw Bullok.
Firefly: "Hello Bullok."
He grabbed him, and they both went off the bridge. He let go of Bullok, and flew back onto the bridge. Batman saw, and dove off the cord. He grabbed Bullok, and grappled onto the cable. Bullok was yelling at him.
Robin: "Can you PLEASE just drop him?"
Batman: "Fine."
Bullok: "WHAT!?! Oh no no no no no no NO!"
He was dropped, but suspended ten feet below the cable.
Robin: "Not like that."
They glided onto the bridge.
THE GCPD BUILDING
Gordon is walking in his holding cell, and talked to the guard.
Gordon: "Look, I'm the commissioner. I have been for six years. You're new, came two years ago. I shook your hand. I congratulated you. Do you honestly think I'd commit a crime? Let' talk."
Guard: "Gordon, I'm-I'm sorry. I can't."
The guards radio came on. It was Bullok.
Bullok: "Andy! Andy! I'm at the bridge, but two loonies are duking it out here. Gordon...he-he's innocent. Let him go, get all the cops you can, and release...release him. Batman's clear too. Now get here NOW!"
Gordon: "Told you."
Guard: "Just be quiet. You're still getting a trial."
He let Gordon out, and grabbed a gun, then got the other cops.
THE GOTHAM BAY BRIDGE
Fries had gotten up, and is blasting ice at Lynns. He's in the sky, and is diving at Fries, dodging the ice.
He hits Fries, but doesn't do a thing. Batman lands, Robin gliding into Firefly. He's knocked back, but shoots flame from his gun. Fries shoots a stream of ice and blocks the fire. Robin looks at Fries, who is already back after Lynns.
Batman is throwing a punch at Lynns, and hits him in the gut. Firefly takles Batman, and punches him in the jaw. Batman kicks Lynns of the bridge, and he flies up. He lands on a cable, and shoots a huge fireball onto the bridge. He laughs, and in the smoke, grabs Robin, and brings him onto a cable. Fire fly starts to choke him, ripping off his cape, and taking his grapple gun. He laughs again.
Firefly: "Hey Batman! Look who I found!"
A STREET
Gordon and his former guard are racing down the street, dodging cars to get to the bridge, hopefully in time.
GOTHAM BAY BRIDGE
Batman is looking up at Lynns. He has Robin in a chokehold,and hanging over the water. Fries looks at Batman.
Fries: "I told you not to interfere."
Batman: "You didn't give me a choice. Lynns! Let him go!"
Firefly: "Stop calling me that! Lynns is dead to me. I lost my humanity the day I got these burns!"
Batman: "You're going to die! Let him go, and I'll help you!"
Firefly: "Maybe...maybe I want to die! I've already done everything I have to. Well...will have done everything. After I kill Fries, it's over."
Batman: "Just let him go."
Firefly: "Fine."
He threw Robin down, falling towards the concrete.
GOTHAM BAY
Gordon has arrived at the bay. The car pulls up, and he comes out.
Gordon: "Okay. I want two men on both sides of the bridge. Everybody else is going on. If Batman's involved, we'll need all the help we can get. And look, Bullok's up there. Now let's go!"
THE GOTHAM BAY BRIDGE
Batman grappled up, and grabbed Robin, and came to rest on a different cable. Batman carefully went over to the cable Lynns was on.
Batman: "Lynns, let me inject you with this, and you can just-"
Firefly: "NO! If I'm going to die, It's going to be here."
Fries: "And that. Will. Happen!"
He blasts more ice at him, trapping him on the cable. Batman looks at Fries, and throws a batarang. Fries catches it, and threw it off the bridge as it exploded.
Fries: "Did you really think you could use that-"
Batman was gone. He looked up, and saw that he was with Lynns.
Gordon, with three cops, were going onto the bridge. They saw Fries, and panicked. They shot at him, each bullet crunching against the surface of his suit. He froze them, all but Gordon. He had seen Fries, and taken cover behind what was left of the ice wall. He looked at the scene, and saw ice where his partners, and former captors, used to stand. He stayed behind the wall.
Robin was still on the cable, Fries looking directly at him. A blast of ice was aimed at him, but easily dodged. He jumped over the stream, landing with perfect balance on the cable. The ice followed him wherever he went, but was also dodged.
Robin: "Heh heh. Is that your best!?!"
The ice stream hit Robin square in the chest. He fell off the cable. The ice spread around his chest, but the force pushing against him melted the chunk of ice slowly covering his chest. He tried to spin in midair, to make the ice melt faster. He pushed his arms against the ice, trying to get them loose. He couldn't breathe. Then an arm came loose. He used it to break off the rest of the ice, and he was free. He took a deep breath, and saw that he was approaching water. He went into a diving position, and hoped that his body armor would keep him alive once he collided with the-
Robin came up, gasping for air. He then realized he was alive, and checked to see if any limbs were gone. They weren't.
Robin: "Awesome."
He swam to shore.
Batman took out the needle. He approached Lynns, who was screaming. Batman took off the part of the suit that contained the arm, and saw that it wasn't there, only a metallic replica.
Firefly: "Heh heh."
Batman: "Lynns, you have to listen to me. You only lost a hand. Your whole ARM is gone! The disease is only supposed to eat away at the flesh. Your germ has mutated! It's destroying your body!"
Firefly: I don't care!"
He broke out of the ice, and talked Batman. He flew back up, and landed on the bridge, leaving Batman falling.
Firefly: "C'mon Fries, let's settle this!"
He blasted fire out from his gun, while Fries blasted out ice. The two collided, fire melting ice, and ice growing over fire. Firefly became more and more frustrated, while tears formed in Fries' eyes.
Fries and Firefly: "I'LL KILL YOU!!!"
They both stopped the streams, as Fries ran towards Lynns, about to tackle him off, as Firefly shot a fireball. Fries collided with the gun as a fireball was being formed. The force stopped the fireball from leaving the gun, so it imploded. The force knocked Fries back, and completely shut down his suit, nitrogen bursting from tubes. The suit was cracked, and chunks of it were gone completely. One of Fries' arms lay on the ground. He simply looked up at the sky. Firefly was knocked off the bridge, his jetpack destroyed. He was falling, he looked up and saw Batman diving towards him. He grabbed him, and pulled out his grapple gun.
Firefly: "NO!"
He pulled away from Batman's grip as the grappling hook was launched. Firefly laughed.
Firefly: "I underestimated you Fries. I really-"
CRACK!
He hit the water.
Gordon looked at the scene. Fries was lying on the ground, and Lynns was gone. He walked onto the bridge, cautious. He didn't have a gun. The other cops didn't trust him with a gun. They were still unsure of him using one after he was arrested. He looked around, but Lynns wasn't anywhere, and Fries? Fries was definitely out of commission. But where was Batman? And that kid he brings with him now? He took a few more steps, and then turned around. Batman was facing him.
Batman: "What, no reaction?"
Gordon: "You've done it a few times. Where's Lynns?"
Batman: "I tried to save him. But he didn't want to be. By the time he let go of my hand, it was too late."
Gordon: "Okay. I'm still going on trial. Not gonna get my job back until I do."
Batman: "I'm not. Now go home Jim. I'm going to help Fries."
Gordon: "Fries is a criminal. Destruction of property, disturbance of the peace, hell, I don't know. He's going to Blackgate, wether he deserves it or not."
Batman: "Right. Well, go home. Call in some more cops, and just go home. You deserve it."
Gordon: "Thanks. And by the way, I know that this was more important."
Batman: "Bye Jim."
He walked away, leaving Gordon with Fries, who was gasping for air.
THE BATCAVE
Dick: "Well that was fun."
Bruce: "Yeah. Fun just about covers it."
Dick: "Look, this is a big thing. I mean, my first ever super villain!"
Bruce: "You're lucky to have survived. I mean, Hood? Almost died. Bane? Almost died."
Dick: "Mmm, yes. The humble Batman everybody! The strangest sight in the world!"
Bruce: "Yeah, you're starting to sound like the Joker. Fries is going to Blackgate tomorrow."
Dick: "Well, that's-"
Bruce: "Bad. I know. I'm going to see that it all goes smoothly."
Dick: "Yep. Don't want it bumpy."
Bruce: "Yeah. Go get some sleep. I'm going to look at this new company, Enigma Enterprises."
Dick: "Yeah. Bye."
The elevator doors closed, and Dick was going up to Wayne Manor.
A STREET
A police car is going down Quinn Street.
BLACKGATE PRISON
The same car is entering the facility. A cop gets out, who opens the back door, where Fries comes out. He has a sad expression, and has handcuffs. He's led to an empty cell, and thrown in. He looks around, and sits on the bed. He looks up, and sees that nitrogen is coming into the cell.
Fries: "I'd like my call."
Guard: "Huh? Who'd you have to call?"
Fries: "I'd like my call."
Guard: "Well, here, I guess."
He handed Fries a cell phone.
Guard: "Make it count."
Fries: "I will."
He dialed a number.
FIREFLY'S BASE OF OPERATIONS
A cell phone is on the floor, next to the doll of Nora. It's ringing.
BLACKGATE PRISON
Dial Tone: "I'm sorry, this person is not available right now. Please leave a message at the sound of the beep. -beep-"
Fries: "Lynns, I know you can't hear this, but I need to say something. I'm sorry. I-I shouldn't have rushed my work. I should have made sure I made the formula right. But I didn't. If I did, maybe you would still be alive. Maybe Nora would. Maybe I wouldn't be here. Maybe. But I am now. And nothing can change that. I should have listened to Batman, but I didn't. I was blinded by hatred. And now? Now I know that Nora would have hated me for it. If you're...with her. Please. Please let her know that I'm sorry. And...and that I forgive you. I underestimated you. I'm truly sorry."
A ROOFTOP LOOKING ON BLACKGATE
Batman is standing there. Fries' voice is now a voiceover.
Fries: "If I could go back. If I could do it over again...would I? Maybe it's better like this. I don't know. The more I think about it, the more I say 'yes'. But when I really think about it. When I honestly, truly envision what would have happened? I say 'no'. This is what happened, and this is what should have happened. No matter the outcome. And one more thing. Well played Lynns. Well played."
The Bat-Signal comes on in the sky, and Batman grapples away.
