Currently there is a new Daredevil film in the works. Daredevil is one of my favorite characters - he is complex in ways we don't see with other superheroes. Not only is he disabled, but he is constantly conflicted with his religion and with his sense of duty.
While the Director's Cut of the 2003 Daredevil film was better than the theatrical version, this film was lacking in some areas, I felt. I hope that the reboot will remedy these malignancies.
Up first we have the Man Without Fear himself. For the blind lawyer I have chosen Ryan Gosling.
Ryan Gosling is an up-and-coming actor who has appeared in recent films such as "Crazy, Stupid, Love" with Steve Carell, the action film "Drive", "Blue Valentine", and most recently "The Ides of March" with George Clooney.
Gosling has a quiet intensity about him that I personally loved in "The Ides of March". His range of acting skills are shown in more drama/comedy films such as "Stupid, Crazy, Love" and action films like "Drive". I think Gosling would be perfect as the troubled lawyer from Hell's Kitchen.
Now we have his legal secretary and love interest: Karen Page.
This might be an odd choice, but Jessica Pare is a fantastic actress. She has only been in a few things, such as appearing only for a brief moment in "Hot Tub Time Machine". Jessica Pare, however, is probably best known for her role as Megan Calvet on the television show "Mad Men". Her acting skills in "Mad Men" convinced me she could easily pull of the drug addicted Karen Page.
Batman has his Robin, Captain America has Bucky... and Matt Murdock has Franklin "Foggy" Nelson.
Adam Pally is a fairly unknown actor right now. He is currently starring in the ABC comedy "Happy Endings". His character in "Happy Endings" has a slightly cynical appeal to him, and Pally gives it perfect comedic timing that I think would be perfect for Foggy Nelson. I also think given the dynamics of both himself and Gosling, it would be Hollywood gold to pair up these two.
A Daredevil film wouldn't be a Daredevil film without the big man: Wilson Fisk. To portray the Kingpin of Crime, I have chosen Robbie Coltrane.
Robbie Coltrane is known best for his role as Hagrid in the "Harry Potter" film series. Coltrane, though, has been in numerous other films, such as "Van Helsing", "Danny, Champion of the World", and "Ocean's Twelve". He is a phenomenal actor, and I don't think I've seen him cast as Kingpin before.
Daredevil has a wide array of enemies in his rogue's gallery, and even though this is a fan cast for the initial reboot, I have cast multiple of his villains.
First is Typhoid Mary, the psychotic pyro-telekinetic. I have chosen Alice Eve.
Alice Eve is a great actress, one of my favorite. She has been in films like "She's Out Of My League" and in the upcoming film "The Raven" as Virginia Clemm-Poe. I have thought Alice Eve was terrific as an actress, and was ecstatic when I heard she was in the running for Emma Frost in "X-Men: First Class". Even though that didn't pan out, I am glad because that means she can play Typhoid Mary.
Now we have a more of a mob theme with these next two villains: The Owl, for whom I have picked Timothy Spall.
Timothy Spall is another veteran actor from the "Harry Potter" film series, playing Peter Pettigrew. He has appeared in quite a few other films, such as Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" and "The King's Speech" as Winston Churchill. Spall could play The Owl with the creepiness of Pettigrew and the intensity of Churchill.
Next we have the Zebediah Killgrave, otherwise known as the Purple Man. I have chosen a fairly well known actor: John Schneider.
Most people know John Schneider from the television shows "The Dukes of Hazzard" and "Smallville". I think he's a great actor who, if given the role, would do wonders with it.
Next we have a classic Daredevil villain. While I didn't outright hate Colin Farrell's interpretation of Bullseye, I also thought it wasn't the best that could have been done. For this version, I have chosen Ethan Hawke as Bullseye.
Ethan Hawke is a fine actor who has appeared in the remake of "Assault on Precinct 13", the film "Training Day", and "Before Sunset". I think Ethan Hawke would be brilliant as Bullseye. A lot of people want Michael Fassbender for the role, however, I would prefer to have current Comic Book Movie actors stay in their own movie, because for me it takes away from the movie some if I'm thinking, "Oh, yeah this guy is (insert blank)". Ethan Hawke will do a wonderful job as Bullseye.
Just like his rogue's gallery, both Daredevil and Matt Murdock have a wide assortment of allies.
One their biggest allies is Ben Urich. I have seen many different choices for Ben Urich, from Hugh Laurie to Timothy Olyphant. I, however, think that Ewan McGregor would be awesome as Ben Urich.
Ewan McGregor has been in many films. He has been a young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the "Star Wars" prequel films, has been in "Black Hawk Down", and "Moulin Rouge!". Ewan McGregor is a highly underrated actor who is phenomenal in anything he does, and would be perfect as the investigative reporter.
Daredevil has a rich history with the ninja culture and martial arts, and along the way he has met a few people, such as Elektra. For Elektra I have picked Eva Green.
Eva Green has been in films like "Casino Royale" and in the upcoming "Dark Shadows" film. Eva Green is a great actress and I think she would bring entire layers to the character of Elektra. I don't think Elektra should be introduced until the sequel, but we'll see what happens.
Now we have one of Daredevil's mentors: Stick. I have picked Bill Nighy.
Bill Nighy has been in films such as the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series as "Bootstrap" Bill Turner, he has also been in "Pirate Radio", "Love Actually", and "Underworld". I think he would offer a unique look at the character, and even though I thoroughly enjoyed Terrance Stamp's take (the best part of that whole movie if you ask me), I think Bill Nighy would completely own in this role.
As Matt Murdock's father, "Battlin'" Jack Murdock (flashback) I chose Kenneth Johnson.
Kenneth Johnson is a relatively unknown actor who has been in the television shows "The Shield" and "Saving Grace". I think he would be a great asset to the Daredevil reboot and it doesn't hurt that I think he bears a resemblance to Ryan Gosling.
I think with the right director, right script, and with this cast, the new Daredevil film could be one of the best Comic Book Movies so far. Daredevil has a rich history filled with tragedy, drama, and action enough for any movie goer, hell any person to be satisfied.
