FAN-ticizing: A rated R Wonder Woman movie?

FAN-ticizing: A rated R Wonder Woman movie?

Why a Wonder Woman film could work, but it has to be rated "R" ?

okay before all of us roll our eyes and think what the hell is this guy talking about. Just let me run with it for a bit. What if they made a Wonder Woman straight up bad ass chick with battle scenes on par with braveheart, the current rambo. Because lets be honest guys go to see comic book movies. we just drag our girlfriends with us. And the movie its self is going to have the whole hot girl sex appeal. I mean the woman is a goddess and will have all that. But guys can only look at that before they get bored. Now how cool would it be to see her in a action scene where she takes out some adversaries by breaking necks, broken bones, and maybe some dismemberments. I like the Wonder Woman in the All Star Series. She wants to bring justice to her new surroundings she just wants to do it by any means necessary. I like the fact that even though she is a beautiful woman and from a island of paradise she still has a bit of neanderthal(sp?)in her. She is a awesome character but I think its hard for people today to believe that a woman with greek mythology as her background hard to swallow. No one really believes in that type of thing anymore (ex. Conan). But lets ignore the books a bit and focus on the movie. How would one introduce a secret island of woman who have been around for ages ? For the film I think the opening should be some kind of documentary piece. Think back to a yahoo article about a helicopter pilot finding a group of nomadic people living in the amazon jungle. From the article they stated that the people were undiscovered. This is how she should be introduced. Themyscira could be this hidden place in the amazon that no one has ever stumbled upon. The opening could address this and give the back story and introduce WW as the leader and ambassador of her people. The powers could be described as a meta-human but since they don't have contact with the outside world they believe in gods etc.

With this news spreading across the world it can catch the attention of Veronica Cale and her second in command Maxwell Lord. They believe that the reason WW and her people are the way they are is because of the minerals and water of the land. They believe that they have found a fountain of youth and want to capitalize on it. Veronica Cale should just be a ruthless killing corprate head. Maxwell could be her head of security and still has his mind control powers. Maybe send a group of hard core mercs after them and use technology to battle WW.

Next its who should play WW. My first pick is actually Marion Cotillard even though I put a picture of Christina Hendricks. She is my pick only because of her acting ability. She is amazing and one of my favorite actresses. Also I think she has the look to pull it off. But back to Christina she can play her because on one then more occasions she has said she wants to play WW. And to me I think when someone is passionate about playing a certain character it shows on film. I like when a actor says I think I should be in that role. My explain to that is Robert Downey Jr. He likes playing Tony Stark. He feels a certain connection to the character. Or say Michelle Pfiffer's catwoman. She owned the charcter.

Okay now back to the rated R part. The reason it should be rated R is that for one the fight scenes should be brutual and no holds bar. I mean this is a woman who is trained to kill and she is the best at it. She is about peace but is willing to lay down her life for it or take someones for it to stay in place. Think of the damage should would do once she gets to the Man World and see's how woman are treated and how some bow to man. She would go bananas. Obviously she would need some type of side kick from the Man World's to tell her what's exceptable and what is not. Also it would be great way to expand Amanda Waller's role from the Green Latern. She could have a very close eye on this situation as well as say a certain Bat in Gotham, a Alien in Metropolis, and a Guardian in Star City. Also the reason this is to be rated R is nudity, sorry marketing dept. but if you want males 18-40 to come see this movie you better have topless woman in Themyscira. Its the only way it would work. But if you write a great script and the acting solid that would only be background imagery. It may hurt you with the 18 and under crowd but lets be honest it won't do that much hurt to ticket sales because fan boys like and would take there kids no matter what. Also parents are always dragging kids to the movies and the ones without parents are finding ways to sneak in. Also when it comes to merchandise don't make a bunch of cheesy girl stuff. Make it on par with the boys. Don't just make dolls, make action figures for girls. Include her lasso, sword etc, but maybe make her with barbie type hair, and change of outfits. Also if you are really worried about things like violence and nudity you could do a two disc release, one with PG-13 rating for the kids(include something cool in the special features) and the regular R movie rating. Then for the hardcore fans of WW they would probably pick up both.

I think it could work it just has to be in the right hands. What do you guys think. I dont mind you guys bashing me just do it constructively and nicely today is my Barf-day you know !!!

Anyways, I do agree there should be a supporting character that helps Wonder Woman with American life, yet I'm against the thought that this movie should focus on being a "fish out of water" story and that Amanda Waller should be this character. The "fish out of water" material should be minor like in Thor. If it isn't minor and you do want an R rating then the movie would feel contradictory and out of place. Also, Amanda Waller shouldn't be the "guide" character for two reasons. Their both kind of personal preference reasons, so bear with me.
1) I'm against the idea of a shared cinematic DC Universe.
2)I wouldn't want the film version of WW to be controlled by the US Government especially if the shared DC Universe does happen.

Another thing I feel the need to comment on is that, Wonder woman is not Punisher. she doesn't kill left and right. she only kills when she deems it necessary. She is a trained warrior, but she has never engaged in combat (assuming this is an origin mobvie) except for sparring with other Amazons. She shouldn't kill more than five (that's really, really, and I mean really pushing it) people in one movie.

I would also like to know why you chose the villains you did. They certainly wouldn't be my first picks, nor would they be my second or third or fourth picks.

As for who should play it. As long as they can act, are physically fit, and are tall. Those are listed in order of importance. How pretty they are, understanding the character, and looking the part are come second. I've never seen Christina Hendricks act (I'm not in to time travel/futuristic stories so Firefly doesn't spark my interest), but I can tell you right now that she isn't in shape. Marion Cotillard is alittle too short to play Wonder Woman, but she is a better choice than Christina.

Happy Barf-Day. ;D
And I'm with @HailToTheKingBaby, I don't think nudity's necessary. Otherwise, I can see a 300-style Wonder Woman film working. IDK if it should be R rated (since WW still has a strong fanbase with younger audiences, from what I've seen), but it should be pretty brutal. If Dark Knight can get away with a PG-13 rating, then I think a Wonder Woman film that's just as intense can get one.

i actually went with the villans because I don't know much about wonder-woman's villians. So I read a list on wikipedia and went with them cause they made the most sense to me.

Wonder Woman doesn't need an R-rated film. Heck, Batman and Ghost Rider are darker, so it's really not necessary.

true but I am using the R rating to actract males to her. I think making her all cheesy and fluffy are what are turning people away from her.

First of all I don't know much about Wonder Woman from the comics. That being said I do somewhat remember her from the TV show with Linda Carter. I don't totally love thomasocelot's pitch for the idea of the Wonder Woman movie but if she was more of a kick ass kind of chick I'd be first in line to see that type of comic book film. It's more believable then the Selena Kyle/Cat Woman story line with Halle Berry. I sort of liked that movie, but Michelle Pfieffer did it best. I don't know much of who who enemies are either but I do like the idea of the way that her home would be found out sort of psuedo-docu style, and then oh look there it is. "Themyscira".

If staying true to form from the comics, she should keep all of her superhuman powers like: superhuman strength, super agility, super-speed, super-stamina and flight. As well as her hand to hand combat skills and her tactical warfare abilities. Plus her animal like cunning, and being able to communicate with animals too.
As well as being able to use her armorments(sp?) to stop the bad guys in their tracks. (Like her lasso and her, wrist bracelets.)

In regards to having it R rated and a lot of nudity, none of the other comic books movies have needed to go that far just to get movie go-ers of any age to see them. Although you could also have a DC/Marvel Mashup and have Tony Stark pop in and try to get her to sleep with him which I am sure would totally appeal to her Amazonian sensibilities. And besides I wonder who would win Wonder Woman who is a Goddess or Ironman who is still just a man. No worse than Thor and Ironman going at it, to see who is better.

The only thing that I can see people would have a problem with is as much as women nowadays need a female Icon is that it should be one who is able to get the job done and not always use the Brute Force that a man would by say going on a bad ass killing spree and totally going Amazonian on who's ever ass. All that makes for is oh look at the crazy psychotic chic. "What another one?"

There is a lot of potential with the Wonder Woman movie to make it really good, but in the wrong hands it also has the potential to be a major motion picture disaster. I'd like to see either Jon Favaro (Ironman 1 and 2, Shane Black (Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang), Shawn Levy (Date Night, Night at the Museum, The Pink Panther, and Reel Steel), or Maybe Bryan Singer as he did really well with the Xmen series. Or maybe even Joss Whedon, (The Avengers). So who knows there are tons of possibilities for a good director to take the material and run with it. And to be honest I think that one of the reasons that Marvel is doing so much better than DC currently is because of all the shared universe thing going on and tying everything all together. Where as DC as we know keeps things separate, and distant and the their stories end up as just that stories, but nothing that is really easily transferable to the big screen. A comic book is hard enough to adapt but when you have substandard material to work with that makes it even harder.

As for actresses to play Wonder Woman: My First Choice would actually be Lucy Lawless, (I know I think we all just heard the Xena War cry, there for a minute while picturing her as Wonder Woman), The reasons for choosing her are this She is 5'9 1/2, with heels on and the way they shoot she'd hit 6' foot easily enough. She has the long black mane of hair for it and the very blue eyes. (Linda Carter style) And she has done this kind of work before with Xena, so she would be a shoe in for the experience alone. Now yes she is 43 years old, but so was Robert Downey Jr. when he started as Tony Stark. Nuff Said!

2nd Choice would be Kristen Johnston from 3rd Rock from the sun. She actually is 6' foot and with heels on even taller. I think she could do the physical stuff and both her and Lawless are good with the smart-ass banter that Wonder Woman has been known for in the comics.

3rd: Marion Cotillard I think with her acting abilities would also be a great choice for the role. I have seen her dancing, so I think she might be able to handle all of the physical stuff too.

4th: This one might be a stretch but I think that Catherine Zeta-Jones might be able to do the role also, since seeing her in Zorro, and the Mask of Zorro.

5th: Sandra Bullock might be another one who could pull off the role. She is spirited, and feisty, and has great acting talent also, and again would be able to do a lot of the physical stuff as well as the bantering.

6th: Last but not least if I were casting this role would be, Cameron Diaz. She is in great shape, she has star power, and bankability, she is likeable, she usually plays strong female characters, she has great acting ability, she can do serious as well as humor, she is fairly tall and again with heels or lifts. Oh yeah and she has the blue eyes too. In fact the more I think about it she should be number 2 or 3 on my list here.

Also I kind of like the idea of both an action figure of Wonder Woman as well as a Barbie style of doll. That's kind of a cool idea. I'm surprised that Matell hasn't thought of that themselves. Maybe it could be like G.I Joe and they could have Steve Trevor too instead of Barbie always being stuck with Ken. Besides when was the last time that Matell or Barbie for that matter had anything new going on?

Here's an idea Matell if your listening: Why don't you make barbie style dolls for the girls. With Bruce Wayne/Batman, Clark Kent/Superman, Tony Stark/Ironman (Robert Downey Jr. look please), James Rhodes/Warmachine for the guys. Make them with normal wear(secret identity) and their superhero costumes. And for the girls, make Selena Kyle/Catwoman, Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, Pepper Potts, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, and anyone else that they can think of it. Call it Barbie and Ken and the Super Hero Squad, or Super Hero Halloween with Barbie and Ken. Possibilities are endless.

Good Luck Wonder Woman, Maybe you can lasso, someone in the film world to keep you true to who you really are.

@shadow11....AGREED.....A HARD PG13...WOULD WORK JUST FINE. HAD WATCHMEN BEEN PG13 IT MIGHT HAVE DONE BETTER. THERES ALOT YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH IN A PG13 MOVIE, WW DOES NOT NEED TO BE R RATED. AND NO NUDITY REQUIRED....SHES A WARRIOR NOT A PORN STAR.

im not saying it should be like a snuff film. Im just saying if you are going to show a island of amazon woman don't expect them to be all wearing business suits etc. I myself could careless if it didn't have nudity. It would kinda of be like the sex scene in watchmen it was unnecessary but it was there. Thanks for all the comments.

@TOMASOCELOT.....GREAT POINT. THE SEX SCENE IN WATCHMEN WAS UNNECESSARY...AND I THINK THATS ONE OF THE REASONS THAT IT DIDNT DO SO WELL. A PG 13 RATING WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER FOR THAT FILM....AND JUST LIKE WW. THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH ALOT IN A PG13 MOVIE....I SUPPOSE THE SCENE THAT YOU ARE DESCRIBING COULD BE A SCENE WHERE YOU FIND A BUNCH OF WOMEN BATHING IN THE WATERFALL...BUT ALL YOU WOULD SEE WOULD BE SIMILAR TO THE ANIMATED VERSION OF WW. BARE BACKS AND LONG HAIR COVERING THE BREASTS. SO YOU STILL GET THE SENSUALITY AND BEAUTY OF THE AMAZONS WITHOUT EXPLOITING THEIR CULTURE. NONSENSICAL SENSUALITY WILL ONLY GET POOR REVIEWS. WW SHOULD BE A SMART MOVIE AND WELL DONE....

I HOPE THAT IF REFN GETS HIS WISH THAT HE IS ABLE TO DO IT GRITTY WITHOUT GOING OVERBOARD.
A WELL BALANCED MOVIE IS WHAT WW DESERVES.

I am in my 30's and find it hard to believe that they can show the level of gore that they do in movies and TV and still have a PG-13 rating, but if there is anything sexual, its an R. or the number of times they say a swear word, "...You can say the cuss word for sex 3 times, anymore than that it's R..." it's insane.

OH and the Watchmen is the worst comic book movie ever. <- there is a period at the end of that sentence, as in the discussion is over, it's a fact live with it, and by it i mean your bad taste in films.
