Hey all,
I decided to take a break from writing The Batman: Arkham City and focus my attention on a project I've had in mind for some time now: An Indiana Jones reboot. Groan if you will, but I think the franchise needs one. After the mediocre Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, there has been constant talk of a sequel, although I doubt George Lucas and Steven Spielberg will ever get around to making it. My idea for a reboot is as follows:
England, 1941. Henry Jones Jr is a History professor at Oxford University, until he is pulled out of his dream job to fight for his country in the war. All his life, he has been plagued by the fact that his father went missing over the Bermuda Triangle in the 1920's, so consquently was sent to live out the rest of his life in London.
Whilst flying a fighter plane near the east coast of Puerto Rico, the situation dawns on Henry that this is his chance to discover what happened to his father. He took the chance and finally discovered the secret of the Bermuda Triangle.
An ancient cube said to have been left on Earth by the Gods was dropped into the ocean thousands of years ago, forming the Bermuda Triangle. It has also created a wormhole into an alternate reality, where everybody who journeys to the island gets sent to, no matter what time period it is. Once there, Henry discovers that literally anybody who got transported there from the past, present or future is there at every time. It's first inhabitants were a crew of pirates sailing the ship called The Dark Diamond who got hold of the Cube of the Gods and managed to construct they're own world out of it, and it is still ruled by the captain now.
Henry adopts the nickname 'Indiana' and puts together a crew of Marion Ravenwood, the only female aboard the Dark Diamond and the love interest for Indy, James Ramon, a pirate who was, arguably, the strongest crew member and the most tactical and intelligent. And finally, his own father, Henry Jones Sr. Together, they journey across a world with people from thousands of years ago and thousands of years in the future, and face off against the evil pirate captain, Captain Thomas Rothwell who is in control of the entire world, and have to retrieve the Cube of the Gods if they want to get out alive.
Now onto the fancast! The reason I included Marion is because I wanted to keep that relationship with the original series, and there's something else along the lines of that in store...
Tom Hardy as Indiana Jones
Come on, I know you know you'd love this! Yes he's British but he's British in my story so that fits well. As we know, he's a phenomanal actor and I can't [frick]ing wait to see him as Bane this July. He looks the part and lets face it, he's miles better than Shia Labeouf.
Mila Kunis as Marion Ravenwood
Why not? She's smokin' hot (ever seen Friends With Benefits? If not, get it and skip to around the 30 minute mark. You can thank me later) and has the acting chops to play her. Plus, she looks like a younger version of Karen Allen, the original Marion.
Henry Cavill as James Ramon
Now's the time I can't make comparisons. James is fierce, compassionate, and he won't let anybody get in his way. He has been plagued for most of his life by the fact that he is deeply in love with Marion but she doesn't love him back, so sometimes he does things that he can't explain and regrets. Henry, he can bring all that to a role. He's a brilliant actor and I can't wait to see his portayal as Superman in Man of Steel next year.
Javier Bardem as Captain Thomas Rothwell
I would LOVE if Bardem got a role in the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie. He LOOKS like a pirate. He SOUNDS like a pirate. He ACTS like a pirate. He could bring the intensity of a raging pirate captain to the role, and if you haven't seen No Country for Old Men, watch it now and you'll know why Bardem is the perfect choice for roles like this.
Harrison Ford as Henry Jones Sr
I told you I was getting to this! Ford would be a great choice for Indiana's father, and would live up to Sean Connery if not do better than him in the role, dare I say it. It would create a nice little relation to the original franchise and would quite frankly, be bloody awesome.
I hope you like my idea, share your thoughts in the usual place!
