Fancast: Green Lantern

Fancast: Green Lantern

Here's my (much-delayed) fancast for a possible reboot of this year's critically panned Green Lantern in the near future.

Hey all,

I've been trying to get a new fancast up for quite a while since my Flash one a few weeks ago, but I've been so busy with school and such that I haven't gotten around to it until now. My latest cast is for a reboot of Martin Campbell's much-despised Green Lantern. Not that I hate the film, I thought it was good (maybe even great to a point), but it definitely wasn't as good as we hoped. So if Warner Bros. decides to reboot in the near future, I'd like the cast to look something like this...

Hal Jordan - Nathan Fillion (as seen in Serenity, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, and Firefly)

I was hesitant in casting Fillion as Jordan because he’s getting kinda old now, but I wanted to cast someone who’s had experience with the character before instead of an actor who doesn’t know much about him. Fillion has already voiced Hal Jordan in Emerald Knights, and has voiced various characters in the DCAU, so he certainly has enough experience in playing a live action Hal Jordan.

Others I considered: Chris Pine, Bradley Cooper, Clive Standen

John Stewart - Chiwetel Ejiofor (as seen in 2012, Salt, and Serenity)

Ejiofor has been my choice for John Stewart for the longest time. His excellent performance in 2012 just screamed John Stewart to me in nearly every scene he was in, and I think he’d be perfect if he were cast as Stewart. Plus, he’s worked with Nathan Fillion before in Serenity, and that’s always a plus.

Others I considered: Common, Nick Jones, Will Smith

Guy Gardner - Chris Evans (as seen in Captain America: The First Avenger, The Losers, and Fantastic Four)

I was highly hesitant of casting Evans as another superhero (he’s already played two), but I was interested in casting a more original choice for Gardner. After seeing one fancast with Evans as Gardner, I couldn’t help but like it. Evans has that fun-loving personality (seen in films like Fantastic Four and Not Another Teen Movie), but has shown that he can pull off a serious side for his character too (shown in Captain America). I think he’d be good as Guy Gardner.

Others I considered: Bradley Cooper, Chris Pine

Kyle Rayner - Josh Keaton (as seen in The Spectacular Spider-Man, Green Lantern: The Animated Series, and )

Keaton’s another one familiar with voicing CBM characters, voicing the title role in Spectacular Spider-Man and Hal Jordan in Green Lantern: TAS. After some consideration, I decided that Keaton would be an awesome live action Kyle Rayner. C’mon, he absolutely looks the part. And like I said, he’s had plenty of experience with the CBM world, so I’m sure he’d end up playing someone in live action in the near future.

Others I considered: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Tomar-Re - Michael Caine (as seen in Cars 2, The Dark Knight, and Inception)

I thought Geoffrey Rush was excellent as Tomar-Re in Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern, so I wanted someone with a similar voice to play the character in a possible reboot. After some searching, I came across Sir Michael Caine. I know he’s already played a DC character before, but I think he’d be excellent as the bird/reptile Green Lantern.

Others I considered: Anthony Hopkins

Thaal Sinestro - Hugo Weaving (as seen in V For Vendetta, Captain America: The First Avenger, and The Matrix)

I originally wanted someone else to play Sinestro (since Weaving is usually playing a villain in his movies), but in the end I couldn’t think of anyone else who could do as good of a job as Mark Strong. Weaving’s a great actor and excellent at playing villains (even if he may play too many), and I think he could do a fantastic job playing the founder of the Sinestro Corps.

Others I considered: Gary Oldman

Kilowog - James Earl Jones (as seen in the original Star Wars trilogy, The Lion King, and Click)

What can I say? Jones is a phenomenal voice actor, and IMO the best person to replace Michael Clarke Duncan as Kilowog. He especially provided brilliant performances as Mufasa in The Lion King and Darth Vader in Star Wars, and he has the kind of voice that I want to have another big screen version of Kilowog have.

Others I considered: Peter Cullen, Mickey Rourke

Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire - Eva Green (as seen in Camelot, Casino Royale, and Kingdom Of Heaven)

I was kinda hesitant about casting Green as Hal’s love interest, but I had trouble finding anyone else who can do a good job in the role and isn’t too young alongside Nathan Fillion (other choices I was thinking of, such as Olivia Wilde and Mila Kunis, are too young to be Fillion’s love interest IMO). Besides, Green was being considered for the role in Martin Campbell’s film, and she was really hot in Casino Royale, so I think she’ll do a nice job as Ferris.

Others I considered: Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis,

Abin Sur - Daniel Craig (as seen in Cowboys & Aliens, Casino Royale, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo)

Craig was literally the first person I thought of for Abin Sur. Playing a short-lived alien may be a bit of a stretch for our current James Bond, but I think with some motion capture, Craig could nail the role. He’s a great Bond and was good in Cowboys & Aliens too, so he definitely has the acting chops.

Others I considered: None

Amanda Waller - Halle Berry (as seen in Catwoman, Monster’s Ball, and the X-Men trilogy)

Another one I was initially hesitant of (mainly cuz Berry has played two CBM characters already), Berry’s still a pretty good actress (even if she was terrible in Catwoman). If she can put on some weight, she may do a good job. Besides, another A-lister (Angela Bassett) has played the character already, so it’d seem logical for another A-lister to replace her.

Others I considered: Queen Latifah

Martin Jordan - Pierce Bronson (as seen in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Mamma Mia!)

I’ll admit I’m not very familiar with Bronson as an actor. He wasn’t bad as Bond, but I know little to nothing about the rest of his career. Based on what I’ve seen, however, I think he could do a decent job as Hal Jordan’s dad.

Others I considered: Mel Gibson

Parallax - Clancy Brown (as seen in Avengers: EMH, Superman: TAS, and Green Lantern)

I thought Brown did such a good job as the villain in the Campbell film, I wouldn’t mind seeing him reprise the role in a reboot. I’d rather they not make the character be a cloud the whole time, however. I’d like him to look more like the comic version.

Others I considered: None

Alan Scott - Bruce Greenwood (as seen in Batman: Under The Red Hood, Star Trek, and Young Justice)

Greenwood’s excellent performance in Star Trek proved to me that he would be fantastic as the original Green Lantern. He also does a brilliant vocal performance as Batman in Red Hood, so he’s definitely familiar with the DC universe to an extent.

Others I considered: Neil Patrick Harris

Solomon Grundy - Ron Perlman (as seen in Hellboy, Conan The Barbarian, and Drive)

Grundy’s inclusion here is mostly for opening up the possibility of a Green Lantern reboot being set in a DC Cinematic Universe. As for Perlman playing the character, I think he’d do a great job. He was good as Hellboy, so I’d like him to play another comic book character, and I think Grundy could be the best choice.

Others I considered: DJ Cotrona

Guardians Of The Universe - Anthony Hopkins (as seen in Thor, The Rite, and Nixon)

I originally wanted Hopkins as Tomar-Re before I cast Michael Caine in the role, but I wanted Odin to play someone in a Green Lantern film. After some consideration, I think he’d be awesome as the Guardians of Oa. He was phenomenal in Thor, and I think he can expand his acting chops to include playing ‘stupid little trolls’.

Others I considered: None

Manhunters - Michael Clarke Duncan (as seen in Daredevil, Green Lantern, and The Green Mile)

As another sort of nod to the Campbell flick, it’d be fun to see the former voice of Kilowog taking on the Manhunters. Other than his mediocre take on Kingpin in Daredevil, the dude’s a great actor, and is probably even better at vocal performances than non-vocal.

Others I considered: None

I'd add more if I knew all 7,200+ members of the , but I think I'll leave it at that. ;P
Comments/feedback/tips are appreciated as usual.

Sorry dude, but kinda no for me!

FILLION as you said is getting old (and unoriginal probably, for now), and too many double casts, EVANS and WEAVING again, and etc.!

As for EJIOFOR, I am yet to see him as STEWART, could be a better BLACK MANTA, but that's just me.

Anyhow, keep up the good work though.

; )

I like your choice of talent, they're all great actors/actresses and fit their respective roles. But with all these big names, this fancast comes off as "uninspired".

good choices. Thou i dont dig some of them. But still decent.

My choice as Hal Jordan would be Gabriel Macht. He looks perfect for the part and i think he definitely deserves another chance after that horrible The Spirit movie in which his role in opinion was the best part.

And Evangeline Lilly is my choice as Carol Ferris.

Bradley Cooper or Cam Gigandet as Guy Gardner

@JackDexx: That's not really a good comparison. Fillion can get back into "action hero shape," while Sean Connery can't become young again...

WTF is the obsession with Nathan Fillion? I've never heard of him until I started going on these sites. Also, that fan-made green lantern trailer has him, too. I just don't understand the nerd-boy obsession with him. I don't think many people would watch a Green Lantern movie that stars Nathan Fillion....the regular audience would be left scratching their heads:"Nathan Who?

Good Choice with Alan Scott and Ron Perlman only looks like he can play Solomon Grundy, but his voice wouldn't match the brutish Grundy.

I think I would rather go with Chris Pine as Hal Jordan, Bradley Cooper as Guy Gardener, and Joseph Gordon Levitt as Kyle Ranter. The rest are good though.
