Hey all,
For my latest fancast, I decided to take on The Flash, who IMO is a character that absolutely NEEDS to be brought onto the big screen in the near future. As a heads-up, I'm still not as familiar with the Flash as I could be, but I'm still learning about the villains, backgrounds, etc., so this fancast will be a little shorter than my usual.
Barry Allen - Chris Pine (as seen in Star Trek, Unstoppable, and Just My Luck)
Pine has always been my top pick for Barry ever since rumors of him being in talks for the role went online. Unlike most people, I don’t really see him as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern (Even his performance in
Star Trek didn’t change my mind), but there are plenty of heroes he CAN play (Daredevil, Human Torch, etc). However, I personally think he’s best suited for the Barry Allen version of The Flash.
Others I considered: Bradley Cooper, Chris Evans
Jay Garrick - Neil Patrick Harris (as seen in
Justice League: The New Frontier,
How I Met Your Mother, and
)
I know a lot of people want NPH for Barry Allen, and while I think he’d do a good job there, I personally think that he’s much more suited for the original Flash, . He even looks more like Garrick than what I’d imagine the other Flashes (Barry, Wally, and Bart) would look like. And yes, I know that NPH is one of the most overused choices in fan-casts on here, but I’m still using the dude.
Others I considered: None
Wally West - Garrett Hedlund (as seen in
TRON: Legacy,
Country Strong, and
Troy)
Hedlund’s another overused actor in fan-casts, but I still think he’d be excellent as the version of The Flash. His performance in the last
TRON film showed that he has some acting chops (especially for a wise-cracking younger hero), and I can see him doing just as well as The Flash. Chris Pine was a top choice on my radar for Wally, but as mentioned above, I think he’d be better off as Barry Allen. Hedlund can do Wally.
Others I considered: Chris Pine, Jake Gyllenhaal
Bart Allen - Bradley Cooper (as seen in
,
Limitless, and
The Hangover)
Cooper was pretty much the first guy who came to mind for the fourth Flash, Bart Allen. He was excellent in
The A-Team as ‘Face’, and I can see him providing the same amount of heroism (if not more) as a comic book character. I’ve seen him suggested for many roles (such as Hal Jordan [I think he’d be good as Jordan], Guy Gardener, and Daredevil), commonly for Barry Allen. However, I think Cooper’s better off for Barry’s grandson, Bart.
Others I considered: Jake Gyllenhaal
Iris West - Jessica Biel (as seen in The A-Team, Blade: Trinity, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre)
Biel was literally the first actress to come to mind when casting Barry Allen’s love interest. Like Cooper, her performance in
The A-Team was solid, and she played the tough woman rather well (something I’d want to see in Iris). And I find it funny that she and Cooper were love interests in
A-Team, while (if they both got the respective roles in a
Flash film) Cooper would be Biel’s grandson. ;P
Others I considered: Natalie Portman
Gorilla Grodd - Michael Ironside (as seen in
Justice League Unlimited,
Terminator Salvation, and
X-Men: First Class)
I was going to go with popular choice Michael Clarke Duncan, but considering he’s already Kilowog, it wouldn’t work should Warner Bros. do a
Flash film within the
Green Lantern universe. After some searching, I decided on the original voice of Darkseid, Michael Ironside. IMO, he can provide the deep and menacing voice that Grodd needs, and with some motion-capture he can be an awesome Grodd.
Others I considered: Michael Clarke Duncan
Professor Zoom - Matthew Fox (as seen in
Speed Racer,
Vantage Point, and
LOST)
I know that Fox is a popular choice for The Flash himself, but I better see him as the villainous Zoom. Even his rather heroic role in
Speed Racer hinted that he’d be an awesome villain in a comic book film. Enter Professor Zoom.
Others I considered: None
Weather Wizard - Eric Bana (as seen in
Hulk,
Star Trek, and
Troy)
Bana’s been suggested for many CBM roles after
Hulk (such as Namor and even Batman), but I best see him as Weather Wizard. He did a great villain in the
Star Trek reboot, and I think that he could do just as good as the Wizard, IMO.
Others I considered: Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale
Solomon Grundy - DJ Cotrona (as seen in
Dear John,
Venom and
G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Strikes)
For me, Grundy’s a hard character to cast. I found it difficult to find someone who could play the tough, menacing dude. Eventually, I came across Cotrona, who almost played Superman in the failed
Justice League: Mortal film a few years back. Although he’d be awesome as Supes, I wouldn’t mind his being Grundy instead.
Others I considered: John Cena, The Rock
Abra Kadabra - Jon Hamm (as seen in
Mad Men,
Sucker Punch and
The Day The Earth Stood Still)
Ah yes, Hamm. He just might be the most overused actor in CBM fan-casts. He’s been suggested for Batman, Superman, Two-Face, The Punisher, and nearly every other comic character. I was very hesitant in casting him as the villain Abra Kadabra, but after seeing a photo of him with a goatee, I realized that he'd do a fantastic job in the role.
Others I considered: Johnny Depp, Joseph Fiennes
Trickster - Ryan Gosling (as seen in
The Notebook,
All Good Things, and
Remember The Titans)
Trickster was another tricky villain to cast (no pun intended). After some searching, I came across yet another fan favorite for the role of Flash himself, Ryan Gosling. In the little bit that I’ve seen him in, he seems to be a pretty good actor, and (as was the case with Matthew Fox) I better see him as a villain than The Flash.
Others I considered: None
Green Lantern/Hal Jordan - Ryan Reynolds (as seen in
Green Lantern,
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and
Buried)
As stated before, I’d love to see the upcoming
Flash film to be within the
Green Lantern film universe. For a
Flash film, I think that a cameo from Hal Jordan - who’s known for his friendship with Barry Allen in the comic books - is inevitable (unless Warner Bros. decides to keep the film out of the
Green Lantern-verse and cut out Hal Jordan completely, which wouldn’t be surprising). And say what you will about the
Green Lantern film’s script problems and sometimes cheap acting, but Reynolds was one of the best things out of the film IMO, and I’d love to see him play the character again.
Others I considered: None
Black Canary - Yvonne Strahovski (as seen in
Chuck,
I Love You Too, and
The Killer Elite)
On my two Justice League fan-casts, I had one actress each playing Black Canary. Kristen Bell was my first choice, but I later decided that she’d be better as someone like Supergirl. Jessica Biel then became my second choice, but I now have her as Iris West in this cast. So I decided to go with a fan-favorite, Yvonne Strahovski. She’s not a very well known actress outside of television, but she’s really hot and needs more attention in the film industry. Based on what I’ve seen, I think she has what it takes to portray Black Canary accurately. And as for Canary’s role in a Flash film, I prefer a cameo or two (like Hal Jordan) or maybe even a team-up against a common enemy.
Others I considered: Kristen Bell, Rachel Nichols
That's my rather short fan-cast for The Flashes, their villains and allies. As said before, I'm still learning about The Flash, so I can't say I know the character like Spider-Man, Batman, Iron Man, Superman, etc. just yet.
Anyways, constructive criticism is welcome as always (unless you act rude/snotty in presenting it).
