Guardians of the Galaxy Movie Story Idea

My idea for how the plot of the GOTG movie should go

So, it was recently reported that Marvel's mystery 2014 movie is Guardians of the Galaxy. I think this has great potential. Anyway, I did some brainstorming for how the movie should play out. Here it is below:

So, the main baddie would be Thanos and the MacGuffin(s) of the film would be the Infinity Gems. The story goes is that Thanos is searching for the Gems. Adam Warlock senses this, and decides to form a team of the galaxy's mightiest heroes to prevent Thanos from getting the Gems. This leads to him playing a role similar to Nick Fury and recruiting the likes of Star-Lord, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, etc. to form the team.

The main plot of the film would be the team searching the galaxy for the Gems before Thanos can get a hold of them. Of course, Thanos would be right behind them in hot pursuit to claim the Gems for himself. Along the way, Thanos gains a few allies and/or lackeys under his command. The final battle of the film would involve Drax having a one on one battle with Thanos, with the rest of the Guardians fighting off his allies/lackeys. It's one big climatic battle for possession of the Gems. The battle ends with the Guardians victorious, and Drax seemingly killing Thanos. The team decides to stay together and protect the galaxy from further threats, and Adam Warlock decides to discard of the Gems in a safe place.

The after-credit scene would show the location of the final battle. We see Thanos' body and...HE'S ALIVE! He survived his encounter with Drax. Well that, or Death brought him back. He then says something along the lines of "don't think you've won just yet. The Gems will be mine!". Scene to black.

What do you guys think? Do you like my idea? Not like it? Any constructive criticism? Share your thoughts below! Thanks for reading!

I like it one thing I think would be cool would have it sort of like a prequel to the avengers in the sense that like at the end he is shown talking to loki to help him get to earth or something

honestly i prefer my plot....it includes both versions of the guardians and results in a single team and even allows a small scene with Killraven. It keeps more fans happy...yes there are still those of us who remember fondly the original team but i also understand some people only remember comics since 2008 so they just know the new team.

i think it should be a combination of the two...here is my modified story:

it starts with Thanos and the badoons waging war against the guardians in the 31st century and he is killing each original guardians of the galaxy member one at a time. The guardians are trying to get to a time machine to try and go back in time and fix what went wrong. Vance is pulverized by thanos....starhawk is the only one able to get to the time machine and he picks up vance's shield (the captain america shield for those not in the know) and is sent back in time.

in the present he appears somewhere in space and is able to gather a bunch of heroes together (some of the new team's members such as rocket racoon and starlord).

at some point in the movie starhawk is refered to as the one-who-knows because he seems to recall a lot about events that have transpired (in the case of the movie just from having a photo memory and having read a lot of the history from the past 1000 years to try and defeat Thanos)

The Thanos threat leads them to earth where the team meets the young Vance astro, starhawk has a piece of technology that sends a memory blast to Vance about the future which emerges his psychic powers (this is also where we see a nice overview of the original guardians origin along with how Thanos fit into it and even a shot of what looks like the war of the worlds with killraven)

Vance ends up with the shield (to me that shield should look a lot more worn out than they made the other ones look...maybe even to the point where you can't tell that well its the same shield).

this would be a blockbuster of a movie, include time travel, space, earth, the original members, and the new team and would result in a team that includes a combination of both the old and the new team.

@OriginalGuardiansPlease I like your idea as well. Seems like this movie could go just about anywhere. Exciting to think about!

orrr he actually gets the gems, they fail to stop him. and it appears to be the darkest hour. then, thanos gains the gauntlet in post-credits. avengers 2 sees the avengers and the guardians taking down Thanos.

honestly, this makes more sense to me than Dr. Strange or even Black Panther, though both would be awesome. since Thanos was introduced at the end the Avengers, they seemingly hinted he was the next villain. so, they NEEDED to introduce Marvel Cosmic Heroes to fight Thanos, since ultimately, he is a cosmic threat.

of course, this is pure speculation on my part.

I also hope for a Nova movie soon. My life will be made if that happens. I could die happy.

@mawilli4 Only thing is that I'm not sure if audiences are going to like a film where the heroes fail to stop the bad guy. Possibly, but I don't know.

The idea sounds interesting, but it went completely south when Drax beat Thanos. It should be Thanos basically whips there ass in the end, gets the gems, and heads to earth were Guardians and Avengers obviously team up and then take him down.

Like the climatic battle should start off with the Guardians sort of winning, thinking they have a chance to actually beat him and stop him, than Thanos goes full blown "Mad Titan' on there ass, and well, whips there ass. Then shows Thanos leaving, and they somehow know he's going to earth etc...leads ups to avengers 2 were Guardians team up with earths mightiest heroes to take down thanos and together as one team, they take him down. All that last part is for avengers 2 of course.

You can't have Thanos loose in the end. And quite the opposite, the audience will love that a villain finally comes out on top for once in a hero movie, but not for long of course in avengers 2 guardians and avengers will whip that ass back. Also if he looses to one team in one movie and nearly dies then most of the audience, including me, would think him not worthy of facing off against both teams combined.

I always imagined the Guardians teaming up with The Avengers in Avengers 2 to take down Thanos, so I agree with most of you. The reason I had the Guardians win in the end was because I wasn't sure if audiences would like a film where the heroes don't triumph in the end. Remember, this movie has to stand alone, as well as connect with the rest of the MCU.

@rockerdude it worked for the Empire Strikes Back. hands down the best Star Wars film, and in my humble opinion, the best film ever made next to the Godfather Pt 1. The public like surprise, they like danger. The 6th Harry Potter movie/book essentially has the villain win the day. Audiences honestly don't care if the good guys win. Most people rooted for the Joker in the Dark Knight.

The audience will buy it. if, and this is a big if, it is not done cheesy. That will be hard with Rocket Raccoon, however I never would have believed that anyone could pull a successful Captain America movie off. Marvel's track record speaks for itself.

I guess both our opinions makes sense thinking about. Imho though, I think the audience would kind of like seeing the villain win for just once in a superhero movie. It would be realistic to the audience, as well as to me. This guys supposed to be the Ultimate bad guy that Loki cries about when he thinks of him. A guy like this shouldn't loose right away. Cause if you think about for some one take on The Avengers(with possible Ant-Man and Wasp being added to the roster as well), and The Guardians(I say will probably be 5 character like...Adam Warlock,Nova Master,Drax,Rocket Raccoon,Groot) the villain has to be bad ass and ridiculously powerful which Thanos is. He can't just loose to one of the teams and almost die, it just won't work imo. Audience won't think so much of him in The Avengers 2.

I think doing it this way will make both movies more realistic and better, and a touch darker with the villain actually winning in the end(for Guardian I mean of course).

I agree with pretty much everything mawilli4 said. It just like makes sense imo, and fits in well with the plan Marvel looks like there going for.

Rocket Raccoon will be one of the best heroes on screen ever. He's freaking awesome and I'll bet money that audiences will love him. As long as the keep his smart ass/funny side to him true to what he is, it'll be jut fine.

And I think An-Man also sounds fine. So does Wasp. Though I am an Avengers fan so that could be my biased side talking, I think with and Edgar Wright name tag as the director it sounds normal. Just look at the movies he's worked with names. I'm already one who has stated Ant-Man will be amazing. Being directed by Edgar Wright, and a script by Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish, all they need is to cast right. Patrick Wilson/Bradley Cooper as Ant-Man, and Mila Kunis as Wasp.

@Avengers eh, I'm not so big on Ant-Man, maybe if it was Pixar movie.. However, I could get behind a Giant-Man movie.

I actually thought of a way you could have Thanos winning in the end, but still have a bit of an uplifting ending. Maybe the Guardians are able to overcome Thanos' forces, but this distracts them and Thanos gets away with the Gems. The end could be the Guardians finding out that Thanos is heading towards Earth, and the movie ends with them heading there as well. This obviously would lead into Avengers 2 where both teams work together to take down Thanos.
