Man of Steel - The Candidates

Man of Steel - The Candidates

Now that some good and solid news has come that Superman is off the ground, let's take a look at the potentials who could portray the man of steel on screen.

Let's kick off with the old:

Brandon Routh

Was a great Superman which was shamed by the poor story, poor supporting characters but would be great in a new series.

Age = 30
Height = 6'3
Weight = 225 plds
Hair = Black
Eyes = Blue

Has the look and the build for Superman, shown he can act all 3 personalities "Superman", "Kal-El" and "Clark Kent reporter" but was he manly enough? But with recent announcement that Routh won't be used, it looks unlikely.

My Superman rating = 89%

Matt Bomer

Has the look in the face for Superman and has portrayed Superman on Japenese commercials but is he right for the big screen.

Age = 32
Height = 5'9
Weight = 135 plds
Hair = Black
Eyes = Brown

Definately has the look and acting chops to pull off Superman/Clark Kent and is a fan favourite in some circles, but is way too short for Superman being way less then 6 foot so is he right?

My Superman rating = 65%

Henry Cavill

A lot of fans tought him as a replacement Bruce Wayne/Batman while the rest tought him for Superman but which super-hero should he portray.

Age = 26
Height = 5'11
Weight = 155 plds
Hair = Black
Eyes = Black

If portraying a younger Superman just starting out like in the Batman franchise, Cavill would be perfect but is still slightly shorter for Superman but would that matter?

My Superman rating = 78%

Josh Duhamel

Not a fan favourite for Superman but is a realistic possibilty with the limited amount of potentials for this role. Has a successful franchise under his belt/

Age = 37
Height = 6'1
Weight = 160 plds
Hair = Dark Brown
Eyes = Brown

Has the height and could put the muscle on but is he too old and would he look right? He does look like artist Alex Ross version of the character.

My Superman rating = 52%

James Caviezel

Is another fan favourite for a long time but is that starting to show after decades of being the Man of Steel.

Age = 41
Height = 6'0
Weight = 160
Hair = Black
Eyes = Blue

Being over 40, he is the oldest contender in my list for the role of Superman and starting a franchise is that what we need?

My Superman rating = 48%

Bradley Cooper

Not suspected as Superman and is my surprise package and is considered for a Green Lantern role but I could see him as Superman.

Age = 34
Height = 6'1
Weight = 165
Hair = Black
Eyes = Blue

I believe that when the casting is announced for Superman, Cooper will be there or there abouts I am throwing the gauntlet down now as the first one for Cooper :D/

My Superman rating = 81%

Let me know your thoughts and share if you have found a hidden gem that could become the new Superman? Please comment.

I think someone like James Caviezel would be cool. It seems everyone wants these underwear modle looking guys. Im up for getting a tough looking guy in there to play the part.

Brandon Routh's eye's are actually brown. Those were contacts for the movie. but based off of height and weight, Routh is the best choice. But Bomer has the the best look. those pics of him as superman looked REALLY good.

So basically this isn't "news". It's more like... an editorial with your opinions... right?

I just watched Superman Returns last weekend and it is getting so good everytime i watch it and compare it with everyone bitching on it. I get that a "kid" wasn't the best plot ever but still, i think they pulled most of it off pretty nicely.

So i'm still up for a RouthBoot!

Of all the people on this list i would rather see Tom Welling.

None of these guys is acceptable as far as I am concerned. And I say "NO!" to Routh again. I watched Superman Returns the other day just to see if I could like Routh....but I cannot. And unfortunately that movie was not good.
Maybe I am just too picky but I don't want Superman to look like a boy...he is calle SuperMAN, after all.

Routh as Superman!

But not Routh as Reeves as Superman. That's what did it. Plus the whole kid thing. That kinda made it weird for me too. Maybe if they used the Last Son storyline it would've worked better.

IN that little batch of news that came out last week, did they not say that Routhe WOULD NOT be returning to reprise the role? Personally, I say give the guy another shot. He was just acting the way Singer wanted him to. Let's see what he can do under a new director (that's what she said).

Though I'm not a big DC fan, I think they should consider Ryan McPartin, since hes not gonna be Cap.

I remember he auditioned before but lost it to whoever they cast in the last super man movie.

Nicholsy, by what standard or measurement did you use to come up with those percentages? Four out of six of those guys were horrible choices.

Hey, Jared Padalecki for Supes!
That's a good one! And he's really
ripped now! Not the skinny kid he
used to be! He's also 6'4"!
Finally a really tall Superman!

But I really would love a ROUTHBOOT!

I like Bomer but he's too small the actor needs to be no shorter then 6'2 or so

Cooper and Duhamel are not being considered for the role and they really don't fit it.
Routh was not "great" as Supes, he was ok or decent at best. They're not going to choose him because most people will automatically assume it's a sequel to Returns and not a reboot.
MovieMisfit
MovieMisfit - 2/27/2010, 4:30 PM
@DDD- I've considered him but I dismissed him because other than "Supernatural" and the generic "Friday the 13th" reboot I haven't seen much of his acting skill. He has the right build, height, and voice but I just don't know about him as Supes. He could probably pull it off though, not to mention he looks a lot tougher and probably is a lot tougher than Routh.
