After arriving in New York, Frenchie and Marc Spector quickly settle back into their homes. Marc acts as Moon Knight to keep the streets safe from thugs and street gangs. As Marc finds himself bored of facing off against lesser opponents, he quickly desires to relinquish his Moon Knight status. Frenchie tries to convince him to keep the role saying if Moon Knight was a hired mercenary again he could face bigger and better challenges. Spector seems interested at the prospect of this, hoping to return to the mercenary world even more powerful than before. He quickly puts his name out on the streets for those who want a job done right. At this point, Khonshu is angered with Spector’s senseless killing of people. He tells Spector to quit the nonsense or else he will be stripped of his powers. Spector disagrees and tries to attack Khonshu, who just teleports to a different spot. He keeps attacking, wasting his strength and almost killing himself. Khonshu gives him one month to decide whether or not he’d like to keep his powers. Spector is conflicted between the prospects of thrills and money or the prospect of doing good for New York. He decides to switch off between the two everyday for the month so he can decide what he likes.
After beating up drug dealers and killing mafia bosses for a month, he meets up with Khonshu. He tells Khonshu he has finally made a decision that he will work for the side of good, but he will kill villains when necessary. Khonshu, unable to sway his choice of killing, reluctantly agrees to this. Khonshu tells Spector to leave but he also warns him of an upcoming danger to New York; one almost as powerful as he is. Spector goes to tell Frenchie he quits the mercenary business, and Frenchie asks why. Spector says something along the lines of “because I made a choice”. Over the next few months, Frenchie and Spector lose contact while Spector is destroying street gangs one by one. Frenchie misses his old partner and tries to contact him. The phone number provided to Frenchie no longer works. Spector has cut off communication with the world. Meanwhile, enter in a shadowy figure going into the Mayor of New York City’s office, he grabs the mayor by the throat and slits it. In hs last breath the mayor says, “who are you”, the killer says, “Call me Black Spectre”.
