I say Michael Rosenbaum is the best Lex Luthor. He perfectly captured Lex's descent into villainy.

You forgot to put his name under his picture.

Gene Hackman is the best LEX LUTHOR by far, even MICHAEL ROSENBAUM has said that in many interviews, an SPACEY has said it too!

GENE HACKMAN all the way!! ; )

I'm a fan of gene, although Rosenbaum is a close second, although he pulls off the villain part we've never seen Rosenbaum act the genius aspect which I think is necessary for the perfect Luthor. Gene might of been a bit campy but he was equal parts villain and genius.

i will say spacey did a good job but hell he had so few lines he wasnt the clumsy or the sarcastic he was the real deal in my opinion. so my vote goes to spacey all the way.

spacey was good, but it was like he was doing an impersonation of Gene Hackman the whole time.

Spacey was too short to play Lex! I didn't buy him as
Lex Luthor and I didn't hardly buy anything about
Superman Returns! It was phony and unauthentic! The only
thing that felt anywhere near accurate was Routh!

Gene Hackman was good but a bit too campy for my liking!
Rosenbaum nailed it I thought!

I'm still waiting on an actor to portray lex perfectly. None of these guys seemed to do it right. That's just me though.

Let me say this as a qualifier to my response. I hate Smallville. I can't stand it. I think the scripting and directing were awful from the start, I think it lacked vision and a sense of the character, and I think it peaked years ago and has been on a long, difficult to watch, painful descent.

That said?

Rosenbaum nailed his part. A lot of his scripting and direction wasn't very good, but everything that the man himself brought to the character was pure gold. He's the reason I put up with a show I hated for so long.
