BOX OFFICE: Here's How Much Josh Trank's Controversial Tweet Cost FANTASTIC FOUR

It may have been Tweeted and deleted, but the Tweet from Josh Trank which saw him distance himself from the reboot has received mainstream media coverage. Now, box office analysts have figured out how much it likely cost Fantastic Four during its opening weekend...

Fantastic Four has been a fantastic flop for Fox this weekend, and while the reviews and terrible word of mouth ensured it was always going to disappoint at the box office, the hits just keep on coming for the reboot. Hours before the movie was set to open on Thursday opening, director Josh Trank Tweeted: "A year ago, I had a fantastic version of this. And it would have received great reviews. You’ll probably never see. That’s reality though." No big deal, right? Well, box office analysts tell The Wrap that Trank's comments likely cost the movie as much as $10 million!

That's in North America alone, and had he not sent out that Tweet, it's possible that Fantastic Four would have debuted at #1 this weekend. However, the site adds that the filmmaker is unlikely to face any sort of legal ramifications for damaging the movie's takings (whether he'll get another job in Hollywood again is hard to say given how talking about behind the scenes issues like this are viewed by those in the business).  "We stood behind Josh’s vision for the film as we stand behind all of our filmmakers at Fox," Chris Aronson, Fox's distribution chief told the trade today.

It could be a long time until we get to know the future of the Fantastic Four franchise, but you have to believe the studio isn't happy! Did Trank's Tweet put you guys off from seeing the movie?

Nope. The buzz was terrible before the tweet. Analysts and studios are idiots.

That was a stupid move on his part. Yes, I know he wants to distance himself from the film, but bashing your employers on social media is going to hurt your career far worse than a badly reviewed film.

I'm going to block this movie out of my head and just look forward to Deadpool.

This movie was absolutely HORRIBLE

I can't believe Fox released it, the movie doesn't even have a 2nd act!!

Are they just using $10 million because that was approximately how much less the movie made than was expected this weekend?

And anyway, who cares. Let 'em rape Fantastic Four. X-Men is a better franchise, comic book wise, and Fox is churning out terrible movies that aren't like the comics at all.
This is an example of people voting with their dollars. If people stop just bitching about the "X-Men" films, and not attend the showings, then maybe one day we'll get a true X-Film. Maybe.

Let's please not act like that one tweet alone cost the movie $10 million. That's pretty ridiculous knowing and seeing everything with this film.

"We stood behind Josh’s vision for the film as we stand behind all of our filmmakers at Fox,"

Yeah right fox, give me a [frick]ing break, if you stood by his vision of the film he wouldn't have distanced himself from it in the [frick]ing first place.

One thing I am always baffled by in these Fantastic Four comments sections is how people say that Fox is ruining Fantastic Four AND X-Men. I'm sorry, are we still living in 2010? Yes, I would love to see the X-Men in the MCU, who would't? But that doesn't mean that the film series going right now is bad.

Yeah, they've had two bad movies. Two bad movies OUT OF SEVEN. The X-Films, for the most part, kick ass, especially. First Class, the Wolverine, and Days of Future Past all rocked. Deadpool looks to be off the charts amazing, while Apocalypse is gearing up to possibly be the best X-Men film of all time. Gambit is looking promising with Rupert Wyatt as the director, and Wolverine 3 has James Mangold coming back.

While they're not always spot on adaptations, they are extremely well done films that have a unique voice in the current flood of comic book movies. So quit acting like they're so terrible.

That being said, Fantastic Four blew, and I hope Fox trades them (and the Silver Surfer) to Marvel in exchange for the television rights.

It wasn't a good movie, it was bad.
But the first hour I enjoyed a lot, it had so much potential and I definitely enjoyed that first hour so much more than the entire 2 hours of Thor 2.
