Chris Evans Passes The (Human) Torch To FANTASTIC FOUR's Michael B. Jordan

As every CBMer knows, our current Captain America also played Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch, in Fox's Fantastic Four movies. Now we have a reboot on the way, and Evans has given new Torch Michael B. Jordan his blessing.

It seems Chris Evans still has some fondness for the Human Torch role! The Captain America: The Winter Soldier actor played Johnny Storm in both Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), and was arguably the best thing (along with Michael Chiklis' Thing) about both movies. He has stated in the past that he wasn't particularly happy with how the movies turned out, but while talking to NY Daily News, Evans admits to feeling "precious" about the character -- while giving Michael B. Jordan his blessing to take over the role in the upcoming reboot.

“It’s so funny, you almost feel precious over the role that you don’t want someone else to do it. But when you hear someone phenomenal is doing it, it’s very exciting like you almost can’t wait. I couldn’t even give that guy any advice if I wanted, that guy is so good. It’s exciting to see what he’s going to do, because I know he’s going to reinvent it in a way that I could never have imagined. It’s almost like we’re sharing, the character is ours. I feel like I’m connected with him in a way, It’s a nice feeling.”

Fox's Fantastic Four reboot will also star Miles Teller, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell, and is directed by Josh Trank from a story and screenplay by Jeremy Slater and Simon Kinberg. Principal photography was actually scheduled to begin today (March 31) but we haven't heard anything about that yet. The movie hits theaters June 19, 2015.

MCU fans are just upset because Marvel wouldn't dare cast a not buff white male lead their films. Even Doctor Strange is getting fast tracked instead of Black Panther. WHY MARVEL!

MBJ will be great I'm sure. Too bad the film is going to tank and no one will see it. Can't believe Fox is going through with this. SMDH.

I for one am looking forward to FF. Yeah, the last films were bad, but that doesn't mean Trank can't get it right. Only casting I'm worried about is Jamie Bell, but they are doing a CGI Thing, right?

Why are people so down on this reboot? I mean Jesus Christ the previous movies weren't good, its not like they're remaking classics or anything.

This can't be worse than those last two films, right?

Right?

Honestly I'm rooting for this reboot to surprise after all the silly nerd raging over it.

Just let it die Fox, just let it die. And why is everyone so high on Trank? He made Chronicle...big deal, it wasn't that good.

The problem isn't Michael B. Jordan, the problem is none of the rest of the cast is Black either. Why does the hard partying baby mama having character have to be Black while the smartest man in the universe has to be White? Fox is being racist and it's annoying.

Let us not forget that Fantastic Four came out in those weird years where almost every superhero film was mediocre to shit, that being 2005-2007. There were 9 comic book movies and only 1 was exceptional (Batman Begins). I have full confidence in this film and the studio learning to not make films that are so safe that they become crap.

and frankly I hated what they did with the first 2 movies and I don't trust FOX.

@RRA, We're down on the reboot because Fox will lose the rights if they don't start the film this year. So the FF and the Inhumans will never meet, neither will Galactus and Thanos, Hulk and Thing, T'Challa and Reed, Dr. Doom and the Avengers, etc. etc. I'm a Marvel fan so why the hell would I want that to happen?

Screw Fox. This is a post-Avengers world and I don't care about the Foxtastic Four.
TheAbomination
TheAbomination - 3/31/2014, 8:19 PM
I hope this movie sucks so the rights can go back to Marvel.

OR

I hope this movie doesn't suck so we can finally get a good FF movie.
Ragnaroknroll
Ragnaroknroll - 3/31/2014, 8:19 PM
Not to mention Fox is just going to try and shoehorn this property into the X-Men to try and "be like Marvel". They suck.
