ELVIS Star Austin Butler Reportedly Pushing To Land Human Torch Role In FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot

Austin Butler recently put himself on the map with a critically acclaimed performance in Elvis, but rumour has it the actor's agents are currently pushing for him to be cast as the MCU's Human Torch...

While Marvel Studios' Fantastic Four reboot has faced some setbacks, including the loss of original director Jon Watts and a release date delay, the movie is starting to take shape. Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springe are penning the screenplay, while WandaVision's Matt Shakman is now at the helm.

All signs point to Jon Krasinski not returning as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, meaning we have no idea who will play Marvel's First Family in the MCU.

With the team expected to be a huge part of this shared world moving forward, these have quickly become four of the most highly sought-after roles in Hollywood. Johnny Storm, a.k.a. the Human Torch, is among them and we may know of at least one actor who hopes to "Flame On!"

According to Jeff Sneider on The Hot Mic podcast, Austin Butler's (Elvis) agents have been "putting him up for Human Torch" in Fantastic Four. It sounds like casting has already begun, with Sneider adding that the X-Men and Fantastic Four are two franchises "all the actors in town want to be part of."

It's previously been reported that Diego Luna and Adam Driver are both being eyed to play Mister Fantastic, while Lily James and Jodie Comer's names have been linked to the Invisible Woman. Until now, we've heard very little about plans for the Human Torch (and absolutely nothing regarding The Thing), but here's hoping that changes as we head into 2023.

In terms of plot details, Doctor Doom, Galactus, and Silver Surfer are all rumoured to be part of the reboot, though it's arguably far too early to start getting excited about that when the script is still being written. Recently, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania director said the concept art he's seen for Fantastic Four has left him convinced the movie will be "great."

Fantastic Four is set to be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.

@IcePyke - Man i wish they hadn't killed Klaw. He was quite an enjoyably crazy villain.

I really liked Elvis and would love to see Butler join the MCU.

Also there's another Elvis movie coming from Sofia Coppola????

Having Doctor Doom, Galactus and The Silver Surfer all at once seems a little too much for the first FF movie of the MCU.

He’s a bit old, I don’t think they should get anyone much younger than Holland for Johnny. Adam Driver and less so Diego Luna would be good picks for Reed, but I’m still holding out hope for William Jackson Harper, he’s really a perfect fit in my mind.

Also, fairly off topic, but I just came back from seeing Avatar and even though I wasn’t blown away I would love for MCU movies to try taking themselves a bit more seriously and not ending every scene with a joke. There’s nothing wrong with a bit of lightheartedness but man I’m kinda bummed we won’t get a 20-30 minute final battle with uninterrupted tension in one of these.

wanted him for green arrow but dc's a flaming car wreck right now, so best not to get that bad juju on all the awards buzz he's accumulated. this movie's gonna have adam driver, austin butler, jodie comer and day-lewis as doom at this rate but still be from writers with blank imdb pages and a director with one micro-budget feature to his name. nice.

If they go down the voice route for The Thing then I could see (hear?) Ron Pearlman doing the role.

Please no to Diego Luna as Reed. You keep slapping the characters in the face and tell people you’re racist but if you change a thing about a minority character it’s cancelled

I'll bet Diego Luna's name was dropped on someone to see if they could be trusted. No effing way either he or Driver gets that role.

Great young actor. For sure he will be nominated for best actor.

Someone a little closer to Tom Holland’s age (or even younger) might be better, but I think that he could do it.
