Marvel Studios has yet to announce the cast for its upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, but several actors have been rumoured to be in contention for the lead roles for quite a while, including Vanessa Kirby.
The Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning actress is said to be one of a handful of names vying for the part of Sue Storm, aka Invisible Woman, and she briefly addressed the rumor during an interview with ComicBook.com.
While not confirming or denying the reports, all she'd offer was: "It'd be an honor." Kirby's MI co-star, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3's Pom Klementieff, then weighed in. "Oh, yes! I've heard about those rumors. We could work together!"
Some insiders believe that the cast has already been set, and the studio is simply waiting for the right time to share the news (next month's SDCC seems like a safe bet). While this is entirely possible, it would be unusual for the trades not to have picked up on something.
Last we heard, Adam Diver (Star Wars, House of Gucci) was "locked in" to play Reed Richards, with Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, The Little Mermaid) officially in talks to play Ben Grimm/The Thing. Paul Mescal reportedly passed on Johnny Storm/The Human Torch.
Matt Shakman will direct from a script by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer. Plot details are still a mystery, but Feige has confirmed that this will not be another origin story for the super-team.
“A lot of people know this origin story. A lot of people know the basics. How do we take that and bring something that they’ve never seen before?” he said in a 2022 interview, comparing this new take on the heroes to Marvel Studios' pact with Sony to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. “We’ve set a very high bar for ourselves with bringing that to the screen.”
