On His Association With The Fantastic Four Franchise And What He Makes Of The New Wave Of Comic Book Movies:

I'm thrilled. I was reading an article last night about Thor's unbelievable opening for Marvel. It overtook X-Men and Fantastic Four - like twice as much globally on opening weekend as Fantastic Four and X-Men did over the entire run. It's a bit sad. It's bittersweet. They had plans to make a third movie but I guess because it's a business model - and it is a business that these guys run - they look at the margins and everything, and they'd rather plough in a lot more money to make something which is more appealing to the teenage market - the big market. Things like Iron Man, X-Men, The Wolverine - they'd rather spend the money upfront to make these movies rather than investing in our movie, which is based specifically for a family audience. The profits are so much greater.

On The Rumored Reboot And What It Might Mean For The Franchise:

I'm trying to put my finger on what happened. It seems to me, that Marvel as a studio are now making their own stuff and having great success with it. I think two of the franchises, Fantastic Four is owned by Fox and Spiderman by Sony - so that's why Sony, I guess - are trying to get as much bang for their buck [by rebooting], because they still have the franchise. I suppose the same idea that Fox had with ours and the possibility of appealing to an older audience, maybe they wanted to rebrand, repackage and make it darker than it was originally. Originally it was a much lighter version.

On What He Thinks About Chris Evans Being Cast As Captain America:

It's interesting because living as an actor now, because there isn't an abundance of movies being made, the only movies that are being made and that I would be available for are these comic books. Because I'm established as one character, I don't think I'd be considered. I'm sure they really found it hard to cast Chris because of his association. But when you look around the market at the time, he was probably the best man for the job. On that note, I was fascinated by the fact that they killed off Johnny Storm in the comic book itself recently. My brain started to think in terms of, because of The Avengers series, maybe that opens the door for them to bring the three of us back! Who knows?

Interesting comments. He's obviously given it some thought.

Always thought he was a little bit miscast as Reed. Never really had that sense of genius about him. But possibly alot of that had to do with the lightness of the script.

Anyway - I wanna see a Dr Strange film. With Guy Pearce!

Dude did what he could with the material he had but damn Evans was great as Human Torch he nailed it, got faith in Evans as Cap, he was really good in Sunshine (a very under rated danny boyle movie). And I am quite surprised by the fact that he knows Johnny Storm "died" in the comics recently.

Dr Strange FTW

@tea

I think Pearce would be cool cos he seems to have that enigmatic intelligence thing going on. Both mysterious, thoughtful and looks like he is an arrogant young surgeon.

Also I think he looks like he could kick some serious ass if you p!ssed him off!!

If it wasn't for Chris being Cap I would say don't even reboot at all. Just make a better movie. I have enough faith in all four of them (except maybe Alba, but she makes up for that by being Jessica Alba)

He was a good REED, well not the best but still good!

Only Alba was weak from the four imo...but hey, her in bra was actually the best part of the movie!

: P

Sad for him, reboot is likely though!

Ioan was alright as Mr Fantastic & I liked the Fantastic Four movies for the same reason that I love the Fast and the Furious movies because they were brainless enjoyable popcorn movies but I would rather the F4 get a more intelligent grown up adaptation

I would love Marvel to get the rights back to the Fantastic Four and let them reboot it and I would be in no rush for the reboot either because I would rather other Marvel characters to be adapted first. Plus a reboot set in the Marvel Movie Universe could show the Fantastic Four as superpowered adventurers as opposed to a superteam because that role will be filled by the Avengers

Ioan was pretty good as Mr. Fantastic. It would be interesting to see him as Dr. Strange. Actually, that would be a pretty good choice for the role

A younger cast for Fantastic Four should be used for the reboot, and it should be titled "F4" - more cooler and modern (:

Jonathan Rhys Meyers or Zachary Quinto for Mr Fantastic

Amber Heard for Susan Storm

Alex Pettyfer for Johnny Storm

@ajax2 I know! - Alba's hair looked fine in Fantastic Four 1, she just looked like a huge fake barbie doll in F4 2

I want to see a Silver Surfer movie, too. I think a movie like that is dependent on whether Green Lantern does well since they are both set in space and appeal genrally to a smaller audience. If they could do it as a lower budget movie I think it could be greenlit.

On Ioan, the guy fit the mold for Reed Richards and I love watching these movies with my family. As he said, they were to be family flicks. I wouldn't mind another one. That being said, for the brand a reboot is probably best and any direction forward is better than none. I just hope Fox doesn't sit on the fence too long with Fantastic Four.

Pump the brakes guys!!! Ioan is a great actor and PERFECT for Mr. Fantastic! The only person I didn't like in the FF movies as far as how they looked to the original storyline was Jessica Alba. I think Katherine Heigl could have lookd the part better but she doesnt give us the hotness of Alba. But I do understand they wanted her to bring us CBM nerds into the theater so we can get a slight chub and to bring a bigger male crowd! But there is my 2 cents.

GREAT JOB IOAN!!!

@TANKGIRL I was stuck on Reed.
But Zachary is mid 30's and Jonathan is late 30's , so they both fit the age thing

Agreed, WebHead22. Heigl would have been a good choice.

Chiklis and Evans had it, Alba and Gruffudd did not, although Alba did not hurt the eyes. Reed should be older than 30's. Putting the grey on the sideburns of these young guys looks totally fake. I am sure that the reason Kirby and Lee gave him those sideburns was to show that he is older than the average superhero.

I felt that the casting of Ioan Gruffudd was an inspired choice; he looked the part and, having seen him in other films , I knew that he had the acting chops to give us the character we knew in the comics.

But in the case of the two Fantastic Four films, tho, it was the writers and director Tim Story that let the actor down; they wanted a Reed Richards that was insecure about his genius (huh?), and his relationship with Sue (double "huh?").

The result;

A "Mr. Fantastic" that seemed anything BUT.
