2015's Fantastic Four reboot was an unmitigated disaster, and writer Jeremy Slater has now shared his take on what went wrong. The Moon Knight scribe also names his dream MCU project for down the line...

Fantastic Four was released in 2015 to negative reviews and one of the worst opening weekends in comic book movie history. It was clear the reboot was put through the wringer, with producer Simon Kinberg stepping in to reshoot half the movie, turning it into an unmitigated disaster.

We've never quite had the full story of what happened, but we know director Josh Trank clashed with Kinberg and Fox over his vision for Marvel's First Family and the movie promised by that teaser never materialised. Moon Knight Head Writer Jeremy Slater penned the screenplay for Fantastic Four at one point, of course, and has now shared his take on Twitter as to why his vision clashed with Trank's.

"Well, most of my problems with Fantastic Four stemmed from the fact that I was trying to write it like an MCU movie," he explained, "which wasn't what the director wanted." As for whether he'd like to be involved with the upcoming Marvel Studios reboot, Slater was quick to dismiss the notion. "Trust me, they don't need my stink on another Fantastic Four. Plus, the Marvel creative execs on the project are all brilliant. It's going to be awesome."

As well as Moon Knight, Slater has moved on to The Umbrella Academy, but in terms of his dream project for Marvel Studios, the writer named Excalibur. Clearly, he's keen to do something with Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler, but if that leads to Captain Britain's introduction, sign us up!

Spider-Man: No Way Home director Jon Watts remains attached to helm Fantastic Four for Marvel Studios, and it's believed the movie will arrive in theaters sometime in 2024.

I never liked the Fantastic Four comics.

The movies were also not that great.

But I really liked the cast of Fant4stic.

At least Kate Mara and Jaimie Bell got something out of that movie.

I don't know about you guys, but I kinda want the X-Men scattered across the MCU. I wouldn't mind Iceman in Spider-Man 4.

Think I read that his original script had Annihulus, Doom, Mole-Man, and a post credits stinger with Galactus and Silver Surfer.
Which sounds fairly neat

After watching the first episode of Moon Knight... I say let the dude have a stab at Excalibur. It's my favorite X-team, so I'm very protective of it, but... hot damn it really feels like he has the right voice for Kitty and Kurt (and Meggan and Brian and maybe Betsy and Rachel).

As much as I'm a little over the multiverse stuff, I'm always game for a Cross-Time Caper.

I feel like 4tastic had the same problems as justice league… The original Director shot a darker movie while the execs wanted them to make the movies more like marvel studios movies in post edits.

I think an X-Men / Excalibur movie would be cool

Now Rors Moon Knight review makes even more sense. The fact that writers even think "write it like an MCU film" is the epitome of why the MCU gets the formula name drop in reviews for every new piece of content Feige drops. No one should be trying to make an MCU film. Make a film setting the MCU.

Yeah race swapping was my biggest issue with it and Doctor Doom looked shit, not comic book accurate enough for me.

Hope Marvel Studios gives us the real comic book accurate Fantastic Four.

@marvel72 - One of the most poorly written and edited CBMs of recent memory and them casting a great actor as Johnny is your biggest issue? Yikes man.
