FANTASTIC BEASTS 3 Will Be More Like The Original Than THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was widely considered to be a disappointment, but star Dan Fogler promises that part three will be a lot more like Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Gridelwald has a lowly Rotten Tomatoes score of 36% compared to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them's somewhat more impressive 74%. The hope is that the planned third instalment will be an improvement over its predecessor, and if star Dan Fogler is to be believed, that will be the case.

During an interview with SYFY Wire, the actor promised that writer J.K. Rowling and director David Yates have ensured that the next movie will be more in line with the first film than its grim and convoluted sequel.

"I can say I read the [Fantastic Beasts 3] script and the character development is really lovely and it’s very similar to the feel of the first movie, which I think is great," he confirmed, adding that the plan is for this next film to continue building up to the war between Grindelwald's forces and the rest of the Wizarding World (made up of heroes like Albus Dumbledore and Newt Scamander).

"It’s leading toward this massive war with the backdrop of World War II, so you can just imagine epic battle scenes are coming," he concluded.

Perhaps the biggest issue with The Crimes of Grindelwald was the way it lost focus, moving on both from Newt and the adorable magical creatures who inhabited that suitcase he carries.

The only place the franchise can go from here is up, and Fogler's comments should come as music to the ears of Harry Potter fans. Unfortunately, COVID-19 means Warner Bros. was forced to hit the pause button on Fantastic Beasts 3, so there's now at least a chance it will be unable to meet its planned release date next November.

@dracula - Lucas did move on from Star Wars. His problem was that he came back fifteen years later.

@dracula - The thing that people dont understand about George or about some people in the filmmaking bussines is that they are great creative directors or creative executives...

Sadly today Hollywood understands the power of creativity and new content but for some reason puts some stupid people in charge of those roles.

George develop Indiana Jones with Steven Spielberg. He created the character and the story. What this proves is that George is or at less was a great creative...

That is why George was always in charge of the creative stuff... Writing the treatment - the screenplay - creating setpieces - characters and settings - directing VFX and creating concepts for the movies.

Kevin Feige for example understands this really well, he is a producer. But in some measure he is the creative chief at Marvel. He just like George develop this movies along his other creative executives...

The thing is that while they develop and know what they need. They find people who is able to execute that vision for them. So they take a stepback that George was never able to take, they design and supervise stuff but dont mess with it.

What i say is that George was better as a creative than as a director.

I admit it. I don't understand this franchise.

I'm not much of a magicky-dude in fiction to begin with, so especially a series where it's sort of the most generic kitchen-sink magic-wand-and-Latin magic system geared toward kids is just not my bag (and that's okay, not everybody needs to love every franchise).

But at this stage it feels like even the bulk of people who loved the Harry Potter books and movies are pretty much done with the franchise, too. Yet, they're still digging into this prequel trilogy to unpack all of this lore or whatever.

If you wanted to do a continuation of the franchise, wouldn't the smarter move be a Harry Potter: the Next Generation, with a new group of kids at Hogwarts? Maybe have some of the movie cast cameoing as teachers or something? It's definitely the lowest-common-denominator kind of sequel, but the franchise itself has always felt very... let's say "accessible". And if this is what the next round of kids are digging in their YA magicky nonsense, then great. And if it's not, you may still at least get the nostalgia factor with some now-grown adults.

@BillCipher - *Googles what the hell that is.*

...Okay. Well, still seems like a better foundation to continue the franchise on screen than these movies are. Maybe the sequel couldn't "move on", but doing prequels about young sexy Dumbledore doesn't seem like a particularly new direction for the franchise, either.

Like I said, I don't get this franchise, maybe it has just run its course. Just let it age gracefully on basic cable and an Orlando theme park (until climate change causes the majesty of the Atlantic ocean to claim the I-4 corridor).

@BillCipher - The next-gen RPG that leaked has a lot of potential

@BillCipher - I'm sure you're right. I'm mostly ignorant of the franchise's details (and definitely the franchise's appeal), so I'm just spouting off for no good reason.

Sorry, guys. I guess sometimes I'm trying to work out my own shit and bitching about stuff on this site either helps me or distracts me from it (I'm not sure which, honestly). But really, I'm probably just polluting the on-topic discourse. Not my intention, but I think it's the effect and I honestly apologize (for this time and the other times I do it).

I'm just stressed and depressed in my personal life and I'm sublimating that into inane Harry Potter Hot Takes. [frick] me.

Fantastic Beasts was one of the most boring movies I have ever seen. I felt it difficult to sit through, and this is coming from a Harry Potter fan. Crimes of Grindlewald was much more interesting, the opening action sequence was thrilling to watch. The movie had a lot of faults, but nowhere near as dull as Fantastic Beasts.

I liked the first one but it really just felt like a one off story.
The less said about “Crimes” the better.

Grindelwald is the worst. Percival Graves is indeed a worthy villain and not that strange albino wizard.
