HARRY POTTER: Warner Bros. In Hot Water After Boy Wizard's Wand Replica Allegedly Injures Young Child

This is a strange one, but Warner Bros. is facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit after a replica Harry Potter wand allegedly nearly blinded a young child. Learn more about this bizarre legal case here...

The big screen Harry Potter franchise ended in 2011, and while we've since had three Fantastic Beasts movies (two of which really weren't that great), the Boy Wizard won't return to our screens until Max's streaming reboot rolls around.

Despite his lengthy absence from theaters, Warner Bros. continues to produce and sell a vast array of merchandise based on Harry and the many other characters created by author J.K. Rowling. However, one of those now appears to have gotten the studio in trouble.

According to TMZ (via SFFGazette.com), an angry mother is suing the studios after a replica Harry Potter wand allegedly injured her toddler's eye. According to the site, "Jessica Perry says she bought a 'Potter' replica wand with a light-up pen function from a store and gave it to her kids...only for it to end up impaling her 3-year-old's eye."

This is said to have happened when her older son was waving the wand around, only for the "metal writing portion of the pen" to fly off and hit the younger child in the eye.

Tragically, the pen ruptured the child's eyeball, almost blinding him and resulting in at least two surgeries. The mother believes the wand was defective and is arguing that Warner Bros. should have done something about it due to there being at least one online review describing a similar incident.

The lawsuit goes so far as to claim that the eyedrops the child uses make him scream in agony and that he's been left terrified by having to wear an eyepatch. In fact, is even says that, moving forward, he needs to protect his retina to the extent that he can no longer play sports or live a normal life.

All in all, that likely explains why the woman is looking for a whopping $8 million in damages! Take a closer look at the offending item below:

This lawsuit obviously won't do anything to derail plans for the aforementioned Harry Potter reboot and we're expecting a young trio of newcomers to be cast as Harry, Ron, and Hermoine. Cameo appearances from Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint would be fun, albeit potentially distracting, and the original Boy Wizard recently confirmed he has no interest in showing up on Max!

"My understanding is that they're trying to very much start fresh and I'm sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere," Radcliffe explained. "So I'm definitely not seeking it out in any way."

"But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I'm very excited to have that torch passed. But I don't think it needs me to physically pass it."

Kid uses pen as a toy and is injured...feel bad for the kid who is blind in an eye, but we need to supervise our children.

Hopefully the manufacturer has 'this is not a toy' or something like it on the box or else they are going to be paying out a large settlement.

Man F these corporations. I hope they don’t have anything like that on the box and they pay this family a huge settlement.

This is a pen that looks like a wand. I’d imagine that the packing suggests not playing with it in this way. Even though the company shouldn’t be liable, they will likely settle outside of court as that’s what companies often do in situations like this. BS lawsuits like this make everything more expensive for all of us.

Yeah, no. Sometimes it's understandable that the company made a mistake. Sometimes people are just being dumb.

It's a pen. Not a toy. I don't even know why a child who can't understand this was given the pen.

Idiot mom is dumb and gives her 3 year old a eye poker. Water...wet

That's the problem. They sell the wand but not the spellbook. Dumb kids use the "Visio Blindus" spell and there you go.

The fact she is unaware that the job was hers to keep her child safe and is taking legal action... Should she then have her children taken away if she loses? Cuz it's clearly not the pens fault the child is now eyeless for life.

Why the [frick] did the mom give the kid a pen to play with? She shouldn’t get 8 million for being an inattentive parent she should get court ordered parenting classes and learn what appropriate for a 3 year old to play with.

To console the poor child the mother later bought him a Glock 19.

The kid’ll be fine. He’s 3, he won’t remember a time with perfect vision. The one I feel bad for is the brother. If he’s 10+, which is the age rating listed on the toy’s Amazon page, he’s gonna feel guilty about that for a very long time.

My eugenics programme doesn’t look all that controversial now. Everyone is born sterile, if you pass a psyche test that means you aren’t abusive/neglectful or just a dumb ma[frick]ah, you get your injection to activate birthing.

Seems like the pen wasn’t being used as intended. Sucks that it happened to the kids but it’s not WB’s fault.

This is a very clear case of parenting negligence. When are those pesky legal agencies gonna step up and call this idiot irresponsible Mom to the court?
