Is Peter Jackson Involved With STAR WARS EPISODE VIII Or Is This Another April Fools' Day Joke?

Bryan Singer tricked fans with the announcement that Lady Gaga would play 'Dazzler' in X-Men: Days of Future Past, but if this is another April Fools' Day prank, it's even cleverer! You see, a screenplay for Star Wars Episode VIII was spotted in Peter Jackson's desk in a new BTS video for The Hobbit...

While he may be hard at work on finishing off The Hobbit trilogy, the following screengrab from the latest behind-the-scenes video for The Desolation of Smaug (which you can find by clicking HERE) seems to indicate that he may be involved with the new Star Wars movies! As First Showing points out, the script - which can be seen at around the 4:51 mark when Jackson reaches into his desk for The Hobbit artwork - certainly appears to be the real deal! If J.J. Abrams is committed to a third instalment in the Star Trek franchise, it would certainly make sense for Disney and LucasFilm to find someone else to helm Episode VIII, although it does seem a little premature at this point. What do you guys think? An accidental reveal or an awesome April Fool's Day prank?

Could be a joke, or it could be a script he was sent. Doesn't mean he's made a decision, and it makes sense for the studio to send the script to every director they're interested in as early as possible to ensure that their schedule is clear.

well, he wants us to see it for sure...there's no way what he was reaching for just happened to be under the star wars script.

Who fell for the Lady Gaga bit? That one ringed of April Fool's from word one. But I'm jaded. After this long, I've adopted a "don't believe anything" policy when it comes to stuff posted on April's Fools. If something hasn't been debunked by the end of week, I'm reasonably sure it's safe. Stan Lee and Marvel got me years ago with that Sentry business. But in my defense they didn't reveal that was a falsehood till much later.

I'm going to lean towards it being legit, with the reveal being a purposeful Easter egg. It doesn't really work as a prank.

At any rate, if Jackson did an episode of STAR WARS, I would lose my shit.

I hope not. Jackson does a great job when in comes to ensemble casts, and Star Wars would probably be even MORE up his alley than Abrams, but we'll see.

This can't be an April Fool's prank since this footage is from last week's sneak peak to The Hobbit: TDOS.

Has to be bull. No way. It would be cool though.

JJ Abrams directs his Star Wars in a way that's similar to what New Hope was. And then Peter Jackson does a darker sequel, similar to Empire Strikes Back.

It's not gonna happen, but it's a cool thought.

Probably an April Fool's joke, or perhaps Jackson was one of the directors who received Michael Arndt's story outline when it was also sent to J.J. Abrams, Steven Spielberg and Brad Bird. Would be cool to see him involved with a Star Wars film.

Probably not true, but he would be on my list of directors in case JJ doesn't return for Episode VII or IX.

I just watched it. If that was a setup it was done really well because the folder had to fall in just the right place to see it. And you can barely see it. The question is did he know the questions ahead of time so he could set that other folder under the Star Wars script. Or did they just edit out the questions that weren't used.

I hope it's a joke. A terrible joke. Peter Jackson sucks ass! I'm sure hobbit loving freaks will disagree. But did anyone see King Kong? Just like The Lord of the rings it was long, boring and pointless. And for people pointing to his Oscar. We're talking about the same people who refused to give Martin Scorsese an award for the longest. We're talking about the same people who gave an award to Jennifer Lawrence an Oscar. I mean, if your gonna give a fantasy movie the Supposed highest honor. Any of the Christopher Nolan batman movies were better then lord of the rings. I loved all the Star Wars movies but even I will admit that George Lucas is a crappy director. It didn't stop me from enjoying them. But the only reason to contact Peter Jackson would be to make the sequels Authentic by hiring someone with no talent. So that they are more like the originals. Jj Abrams is the best man for the job. Visually his style is similar to Steven Spielberg and micheal bay.
