LORD OF THE RINGS TV Adaptation From Warner Bros. Reportedly In Development For Amazon

It looks like Warner Bros. may be planning to adapt J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy novels for the small screen, as Variety reports that there's a Lord of The Rings TV series in the works at Amazon...

Peter Jackson has already successfully adapted J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of The Rings novels into a trilogy of movies, but it seems the studio behind those critically acclaimed features is now looking to bring the adventures of Frodo, Gandalf, Gollum and co. to the small screen.

According to Variety, Warner Bros. Television and Tolkien's estate are in talks with Amazon Studios to develop a series based on the exploits of the now iconic Middle Earth characters. However, negotiations are said to be in the very early stages, and no deal has been reached yet.

This news will most likely split opinion, but keep in mind the initial uproar that greeted the movies when they were first announced, and most Tolkien fans would agree that Jackson did a superb job on them overall.

What do you guys think? Excited at the prospect of a Lord of The Rings TV show, or should the idea be tossed into the fiery chasm from whence it came?

Sometimes I get the impression that WB has given up on films and are turning to TV.

Wonder if it will be more remake or continuation of the story.

has te be the silmarillion. remaking the movies is pointless. the extended cuts of the trilogy almost runs like a season of a tv show

I wish they could make new stories in that world. I don’t have a ton of interest in seeing the same story adapted again.

@TheUnworthyThor - There is an awful lot that wasn't told in those movies, and some of it was really important to character depth and development. To the contrary, The Hobbit trilogy did the opposite and added lore from his other works and fresh ideas to extend a short novel into an epic blockbuster trilogy... that didn't always work.
Seems as if the middle ground would be a good approach for a new adaptation of LOTR, 3 seasons for three books perhaps.

@SlowKnife - don't think of it as a remake, rather a re-cut. The books are massive and have tons of stuff PJ didn't cover(but he did awesome)

Ben from Parks and Rec was not a fan of the LOTR movies...so there must be a lot more to mine from those stories in a more relaxed format.

@Battabing - Nice clickbait putting the beautiful Mera as thumbnail , i really dislike those youtube channels who put a 30 sec clip with a bunch of old trailers to sell like a 4-5 minutes "brand new" trailer smh.

@Battabing - Seems like it was cut up for the clip. At least I hope so.

A Harry Potter tv series would be great. There is sooooo much, soooooo much stuff cut from the books.
