Couple of days ago, first promo image has been revealed for TARZAN 3D at American Film Market. This is another animated take based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic jungle character. German film production company Constantin Film and Summit Entertainment are developing it, with Reinhard Klooss set to direct. Now, official plot synopsis is online. Check it out below...

While in a remote part of Africa exploring a mineral cache in a mysterious cave, entrepreneur JOHN GREYSTOKE and his wife ALICE are killed in a tragic helicopter crash, leaving their three-year-old JOHN, JR. to fend for himself. Rescued by KALA, a gentle ape, the traumatized child is brought up by a band of mountain gorillas as one of their own, learning the ways of the wild as he grows into a strong and indepdendent young man known as TARZAN. At 14, Tarzan first encounters another human: JANE PORTER, a pretty and intrepid teen visiting Africa with her naturalist father. His contact with a creature so like himself leaves him unsettled and yearning for more.

The gorilla tribe’s longtime leader dies and is succeeded by a brutal silverback named TUBLAT, who settles an old score by driving Tarzan out of the group. As Tarzan wanders alone, he stumbles on the wreckage of the helicopter, where he unknowingly triggers a signal to his late father’s company. CLAYTON, a ruthlessly ambitious executive at Greystoke Industries, hires Jane and her father with a greedy scheme that will destroy the entire ecosystem. Jane, hoping to derail the plan, reconnects with Tarzan and becomes a target for both Clayton and Tublat. Facing deadly challenges from man and beast, Tarzan must use his jungle intuition and his human intellect to save his home and the woman he loves.

A spectacular animated safari into a vibrant and exotic landscape, TARZAN 3D is a gorgeously rendered, action-packed journey through a magnificently imagined world.

There is still no release date for the movie.

That almost sounds like a remake of the Disney movie except Tarzan and Jane were in their twenties and it was set in the 1920's-30's (correct me if I am wrong) and his parents were killed by a leopard.

Tublat came into the animated series looking to take over the gorilla tribe (voiced by Keith David.)

It's not that I don't want to see another Tarzan film, but I'm with jjmeylar, I'd rather want another live-action film. Especially with today's CGI and effects. You could make all the apes like Caesar and Tarzan could pull off a lot of stunts ala the Disney movie.

@Mercurman: Haha, yeah, it was like that in the official press release I guess. A typo. I'll change it. Thanks for the heads up.

tea@ I feel your pain ;)

I wonder is this going to be CGI animation or what?...

Hopefully the live-action version is a period movie based on the 1900 century. Cause thats how its in the books. Tarzan is born 1888.

tea@ LOL! Thats not even bad yet! I succeed to confuse Paul Thomas Anderson to Paul W.S. Anderson!;)
I was watching There Will Be Blood first time and i had no clue who the director was so i asked my buddy and he said Paul Anderson and i immediately thought the guy who made AVP and Resident Evil. I was like you gotta be shitting me!;D
W.S. Anderson has made only two movies on his career which has been somehow watchable. Event Horizon and Mortal Kombat.

tea@ I didnt meant it sound like i hate Collins or he is a bad musician which he isnt but his songs just happen to be very very... catchy. ;)
Sometimes is very hard to get them out of the head.

Seeing how that Gorilla is enjoying himself how someone could hate Phil Collins!;D

Holy shit! I just got a brainstorming idea!;D
Someone should make a sequel to Spike Jonze´s and Charlie Kaufman´s film Being John Malkovich and name it Being Phil Collins.
Plot: Shitty musician finds a strange door which leads into head of Phil Collins. But what happens when Phil goes through the door.

Why is he going to be so freaking young? 14?
They better find a damn good teenage actor then! lol....I was hoping they would do it older, so we could see Joe Manganiello as him

Why Gorilla's again?????? He was never raised by them in the books.Only a missing link between us and them which enabled him to grow up with semi-'civilised' behavior....I know I'm knit-picking but fook it!I'm tired of Tazan being done wrong and to death.Get it right or don't bother!

We already had a great animated take. Give us live action or nothing.

This sounds awful. Who wants to see a 14 year old Jungle boy a.k.a Tarzan?!? We have two different animated films that are similar, Disney's Tarzan and Jungle Book. As soon as I saw age 14, I immediately thought Jungle Book!

If they think they can top Disney's Tarzan then I want some of what they are smoking. We already have the perfect animated interpretation of Tarzan by Disney! Now all we need is a perfect live action take on the character!

@hatrick3 I had the VHS tape and played it to death. It was the first time I saw that kind of property handled that way. It's epic.
